Awesome tool but still a toy

Posted by: DJMezz from Asheville, NC on 01/17/2013While Numark has always created more than sufficient DJ equipment, this digital controller is only a step from being just a toy for a professional Dj. But let me clarify. By professional I mean beat matching, scratching, mixer terrorizing mixologist. While any "professional wedding Dj" will have no problem running the show with this unit alone, a true professional will find many flaws right away during use. My biggest complaint, although something many other may not be bothered by, is that fact that the audio quality out of the headphone jack is garbage. It gets better if you crank up the headphone volume but I already beat my ears up enough in the industry and would like to use it at low levels at times during practice. And while you do have the ability to adjust the three band equalizer to better the sound, the knobs are not smooth so it is nearly impossible to get exactly the sound you want. There is a notch in the mid point of every eq level knob which eliminates smooth usage (ie: the dreaded pitch notch in Technics original 1200). While many other features are great conveniences there tends to be a delay in many of their actions such as the effects and sampling buttons which, if left untouched for more than a few seconds, will get a "pop" start effect in the audio.
Since this system is fused with the algoriddim Dj software only, it may be a software flaw creating the delay issues but we will never.
Overall I will say that is a great beginner tool for the entry level Dj looking to have a bunch of effects but without concern for professional audio quality. As for price... I bought it the moment it came out with high hopes but could definitely see it coming down to around a $300 price point and would be a much greater value then. I would recommend to a friend starting to Dj but not a pro.

Excellent Portable DJ Controller

Posted by: bjonesiii from Raleigh, NC on 10/23/2012I was looking for a portable device to take around instead of hauling around the Numark NS7FX then I came across this device. My first thoughts when I purchased this device was it's great how you don't need to hook it up to any computer program thus eliminating me having to carry a laptop with me as well. It's lightweight material was ideal versus the metal/steel of the NS7 but that would also make it less durable which is why I instantly went out and go the special case from Numark.
I'd figured it would probably be best to get the 3rd Generation iPad because I was guessing that it would be able to keep up with the Baby Scratches, Drops, Crabs, Transformers, and other Scratching Techniques and I must say it does keep up which is probably due to the combination of everything working together (iPad Processor, Algoriddim, iPro). My only real drawback from the performance side is you can't perfectly Beat Match (Matching BPMs) with the sliders which isn't all that bad I just against hitting the Sync Button.
Love the effect knobs, loop buttons, cue buttons, and the crossfader. The crossfader isn't as "Buttery Smooth" as the NS7 but you get what you paid for. I wish Algoriddim would add some more effects to their program to go along with the nicely thought out touch interface when you load up the program. Who would've though of controlling your effects by simply moving your finger in the effects area. I'm "OK" with the Volume Knobs but I would've preferred faders but they still function well.
The iDJ Pro is definitely a DJ controller you need to have if your an iPad Owner or a Mobile DJ. A lot better then the iDJ Live by far. The only thing that will make this device better is based on what Algoriddim does to improve their program even further.

Very well made but light to carry does not feel like a toy! It took a few mins. to get use to all of the layout but within 30 mins....... I was tearing up the tracks with this. Works perfectly and flawlessly with djay. Great job to algoriddim and numark for coming together with apple to produce a very nice dj piece that I will gig with and use for a very long time coming!!!!!!!

I wanted something comprehensive and effective. It needed to be able to provide functionality that was similar to dJay the application I was accustomed to using. In all, there are some minor adjustments that I needed to make, but over the course of about an hour, I immediately figured out what I needed to adjust and produced a first round test mix that could be broadcast immediately! Very Impressive!
