This projector is awesome!5

This projector was a warranty replacement for my 3 1/2 yr old 720p projector. This is one of those times where the extended warranty paid off. The color wheel on my old projector started acting up. I took it in to have it looked at, and got this fantastic projector as a replacement. The picture is awesome, it is quiet, and everything looks better on a 120" screen in 1080p!!!
This is my 4th projector, 2nd Optoma projector. I am very satisfied.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Was looking for a high def projector for my media room. Neighbor had an Optoma that he was happy with so took a look at the brand. For the price I was very pleased with the picture when watching HD videos. Would definitely recommend this projector.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

If your projector works, congratulations!!! But, if you have a problem......you're out of luck and money. Based on the excellent reviews posted here, I purchased HD23 in late Nov 2012. Very happy with features and performance for first 3 months. Then suddenly the unit started to produce equally spaced vertical lines through every projected image!! (like looking through the bars of a jail cell) My calls to OPTOMA resulted in the biggest run-around I have experienced in years. After an initial hold of 20 minutes, I was dumped into a voicemail box that was full (I guess they don't ever retrieve their voicemail ). An operator finally picked up, and with a very argumentative tone, eventually passed me to a "manager". I explained the problem and was told that if I purchased a "Gold Service" for $299 dollars, I could hot-swap the unit for a "refurbished" one ( which only carries a 90 day warranty - even though I still had 8 months to go on my existing new unit warranty.) I initially caved in to this extortion so that I could at least get a replacement unit while mine was being repaired. After an additional 30 minutes giving my credit card numbers and addresses to a totally incompetent "service agent" - whose computer kept "crashing" so that I had to give my information multiple times. I was told that I would receive a "certificate" by snail-mail once my "Gold Service" order had been "processed" . When I asked about the "swap", I was told I should call back to arrange this AFTER I had received my certificate in the mail. At that point I bailed. I wasn't about to spend even more money for further delays and obstructions. Without purchasing this "Gold Service" the end user must obtain an RMA and then insure and ship the item back for repair AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE!!!, and then wait and hope that it eventually comes back in working condition. This is OPTOMA's idea of a "warranty" and customer service. And BEST BUY is no better if they won't stand behind the products and companies they promote. So here I am, 3 months after laying out $1000, sitting in the dark without a projector, and waiting..... Nice way to treat your customers!!!4 out of 5 found this review helpful.

Excellent Projector for Family Room5

I first bought a Panasonic 2700 lumen projector and installed it overhead in my family room media center. The picture was good but the NOISE LEVEL was off the chart unacceptable. Returned the unit and ordered the Optima HD23. Installed it in the same location as the previous unit and have had nothing but high level viewing pleasure since. Fan noise is almost un-noticalbe compared to the competitor. Ran Color Calibration software and found the Reference Mode to be right on the calibration settings. The 2500 lumen lamp level provides a bright clear picture on my 108 inch drop down screen even with light coming in from the family room windows. Definitely recommend this projector for its price/performance value.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

This is my 1st full HD 1080p projector. Having two LED HDTV I was expecting to watch my Blu-Ray movies in 24p which on my both TVs looks amazingly smooth (no jitter) thanks for 120Hz technology. Optoma HD23 projector is a bargain but obviously with the low price comes lack of smooth 24 frame movies processing. Sure, projector accepts 24Hz video signal but it does not process it further which results in jittery, unnacceptable picture. Older brother HD33 has PureMotion system which thanks for advanced 24 frame video processing ensure smooth picture especially in fast moving scenes. This is not a case for HD23 neither older HD20. So watching Blu Ray movies makes sense when in 1080p60 mode which produces very low but still visible jitter. Another workaround would be to obtain BD player capable of advanced processing 24 frame movies to 1080p60. Other than that projector works flawlessly producing stunning vibrant picture worth every penny. If you do not care about PureMotion processing for smooth 24p mode, neither 3D capability then Optoma HD23 is projector for you. But if you do and can spend $300 more, get it's bigger brother HD33.
One more thing, HD23 is superior over HD20 model producing more contrast thanks for newest DarkChip 3 DLP matrix from Texas Instruments. I highly recommend it over the HD20 model. You wont be disappointed7 out of 7 found this review helpful.

This projector is a great product for a great price. The HD quality is perfect. I have it setup using default settings to make a 140' image on a wall in my basement. I am running one HDMI to it through a Pioneer VSX-51 receiver with a Wii, PS2, Comcast Cable box, and will add Apple TV and BD later. No issues with anything.7 out of 7 found this review helpful.

I was looking for a nice projector at a reasonable price for my home bar. After shopping around and reading reviews I chose this one...and it's flipping awesome! I'm running it with a 106" Elite Screens electric screen. It's used mostly for football games, fights and lets not forget about the PS3. The picture is amazing and im very happy with this unit.7 out of 8 found this review helpful.
