I have this hooked up to a ps3. Movies look great but gaming which I bought this for mainly isn't what I thought it would be. The problem is that I have a 55in. sony bravia 3D 240hz hdtv and watching that and then looking at the projector image is almost night and day. But for the price the picture looks great while watching movies in 1080p. I have around a 100 inch screen so where my tv is crisp, the Optoma ml500 is HUGE. I can be a bit picky about image quality, but when friends come over to watch movies they are blown away. I'll say it has great image quality because of that.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Far far better than the 300 model which shut off all the time.
it stays on and is good for my needs.
USB does not work with a Mac - why not?
missing the MAC connection
cumbersome learning curve
still don't know how to use the internal memory
not well designed for intuitive use.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Another great LED projector from Optoma.5

This is my second Optoma LED projector. I replaced my PK301 with the ML500. The ML500 has more lumens and a full HDMI input as opposed to the mini-HDMI input on the PK301. That was my biggest problem with the PK301 as the mini-HDMI eventually stopped working because the weight of the cable pulled down on the connector and caused a faulty connection. The full HDMI input is much sturdier. The ML500 has a far more extensive on-screen menu with multiple customization options. I use the ML500 primarily for art as an image projector onto canvas directly from my computer. The brighter image allows me to use it in a lit room. Of course, it also doubles as an able movie projector and looks great on a white wall without a screen. If you're an artist, I would highly recommend this projector. There is also a standard tripod mount on the bottom of the projector. I would however recommend a clever setup for your cables coming out of the projector to avoid strain on the connections. Keep them plugged straight, and do not yank down on them, otherwise you run the risk of damaging the input plugs. I have not tried the 3D capabilities, but I understand this projector requires a very specific computer setup for the 3D and simply buying the 3D adaptor Optoma sells will not suffice. It also includes a very nice carrying case large enough for various input cables.1 out of 1 found this review helpful.

LED...NO MORE BULBS!5

This little guy is quite the projector. I'm throwing a 120 inch picture on an electric screen. I previously used a Sony VPL-HS10 and love the vibrant colors this one has. The Sony looked great but I hate dropping anywhere from 200-300 dollars for a new bulb every couple of years. I added the Viewsonic VP3D-1 processor and some 30 dollar a pair 3D glasses and the 3D is very good. The low lumens mixed with the image size make the 3D picture a bit darker than 2D movies, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make! Best viewing, naturally, is in a very dark room. The speaker is not really anything to brag about, but somewhat serviceable. Anybody that buys a projector hoping for "good sound" is a fool, in my opinion. Run the sound through an a/v receiver, for Pete's sake! About the only thing I can knock this projector on is optics. You can only focus manually and it never seems to get PERFECTLY in focus. It's focused well, just not razor-sharp. Projector - 600 bucks. 3D blu-ray player - 100 bucks. Viewsonic 3D processor - 200 bucks. 4 pairs of DLP -link 3D glasses - 95 bucks. 120 inch electric screen - 200 bucks. For under 1200 dollars you too can have a ridiculously large 3D experience. What are you waiting for?!?2 out of 2 found this review helpful.

A taste of Home Theater Entertainment!5

I've always on the lookout for a flat screen TV. The Sonys and Samsungs are all great but I knew from the start I really wanted a HUGE screen for a real "home theater experience". The 80" screens are waaaay beyond my budget so I started researching about projectors.
My requirements are simple:
It has to be compact, must be LED since replacement bulbs are expensive, tolerable noise from the fans, and affordable price.
The ML500 meets all these requirements albeit some quirks.
It's not perfect thats for sure.
You want this if you can live with just one connection otherwise it keeps automatically searching for other inputs. You also want it to be in photo or cinema mode since it has a tendency to auto search or turn off I you use other settings that cause the fans to not keep up with the heat.
Stick with the Eco, photo/cinema mode and you should be good.
Garbage in garbage out holds true with this device. Play YouTube videos and you will get horrible picture. Sample the HD clips from iTunes (I use it with my Apple TV) and you'll thank yourself you bought this thing.
Highly recommended if you have the same requirements as I have. :))2 out of 2 found this review helpful.

I bought this projector at Best buy primarily for entertainment. The projector is lightweight and small in size. It has a USB, HDMI, VGA, S-video, video(RCA), Audio/Av in and a SD card slot. The sound quality of the inbuilt speaker is not bad. My flatscreen has no TV out capability, so I connected an old spare digital box , however I could not use the projector speaker as it does not have an RCA inlet. I have not used 3D yet. The inbuilt fan does not make too much noise, at least not now after a month. The lens does not have a cap . It comes with a very handy and useful bag. The picture quality is amazing and bright even in descent light. I would highly recommend this to friends.2 out of 2 found this review helpful.

LED projector at its best!4

I purchased the OPTOMA ML500 projector for my home theater system set up using a DENON 2312CI AV receiver, PS 3 and a POLK AUDIO 5.1 system. Amazing HD resolution even when projected on a white wall, no need to purchase a projector screen. I really wanted to try the 3D so I purchased a 3D blu ray movie but it did not work. My receiver and PS3 are all 3D capable but sad to say that OPTOMA ML500 is only 3D ready for 3D PCs. I did consult the CSR of OPTOMA and have to clarify something about the 3D Ready compatibility with OPTOMA 3D XL (a 3D converter) for I plan to purchase it and hopefully enjoy a 3D feed. Specifications online will tell you that it is not compatible with OPTOMA 3D XL but when you try and search its compatibility with 3D projectors they have, it will tell you that all 3D ready projectors they have is compatible with 3D XL. I am confused until now so might as well not to purchase the 3D XL. I hope they come up with something help solve this compatibility problem. To top it all, ML500 is a very good product for those who would like to upgrade their viewing experience. Better get this one rather than purchasing a 60-inch TV which is a hype nowadays. I have not tried hooking it up on our Direct TV box but I think it will work. More power OPTOMA! If in case you already have the right answer if the ML500 and 3D XL are compatible, please let me know. I am very much eager to purchase it too.4 out of 4 found this review helpful.

Great mini theater projector5

I purchased this projector after doing the typical review process I go through before making a purchase like this. (my wife thinks I'm obesesive, and a little crazy.) I have this projector ceiling mounted, and projecting a 90" image on a FAVI 100" electric projector screen. It is used for Ps3 games, and movies. The image quality is very good, and leaves me feeling satisfied with my decision to go with a LED based projector. I'm sure there is better choices for movie based projectors, however, the life span of the bulbs (20,000 hours) and price 599.99 is by far a greater value to me than a standard projector that needs a new $300.00 bulb every 2000-3000 hours. As for the internal speaker, I have never used it. The projector is connected via HDMI-(the only way it should be connected) to my Pioneer Reciever, Bowers Wilkins 685 home theater (with a Velodyne impact 12), APPLE TV, and PS3. I recommend giving this projector a shot if your in the market!5 out of 5 found this review helpful.
