Panasonic - 45-200mm f/4.0-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens for Panasonic Lumix G Digital Cameras (5 out of 6)
excellent for the price, easy to use

Posted by: from Woodbury, MN on 06/21/2012In all, this Panasonic lens has been a great value. The autofocus works quite well in the situations we have tried, and the in lens image stabilization works very well. I have not made any use of the manual settings on the camera with this lens so far, but given how well it has worked in auto for my wife and daughters, I have no real reservations. If you have a micro four thirds camera and want to bump the zoom capability, this lens is a great choice.

Great lens at a great price

Posted by: from Milwaukee on 06/15/2012I bought this lens expecting mediocre performance considering the price I paid. Instead this lens has been on my OMD 80 percent of the time, a great lens for nature walks. Sharp, fast focus, color and bokeh are very pleasing. Works well for outdoor portrait shots also.

Posted by: from Palm Springs CA on 03/30/2012Bought this for my GH1. I am pleased with the stabilizer...works well even with my shakey hands. I did Internet research and chose this over the less expensive version. It seems rugged to me. Bought this at Best Buy because they had it in stock at their San Diego store. Glad they carried it. I hope they continue to carry such products...i.e. in their new plans for their smaller stores. Perhaps they will have these online and pick up in their stores.

Posted by: from Grand Forks, ND on 02/15/2012This is a great buy. I got it the bulk package with the camera, bag and memory chip so I only paid 149.99 pre-tax. My only complaint is the OIS switch doesnt seem to do anything except drain the battery more quickly.

not for action pics

Posted by: from ca. on 08/15/2011Camera slow to focus. IA works well with close shots, has trouble focusing at distance and moving subjects (could be I have settings wrong). Rather hard to keep fingers out of way of sensors, and hold firmly. Picture quality is very, very good. In all fairness, haven't experimented much with different settings, as have only owned for a short time. Lense aperature is 1.4 to 5.6, and results in shallow depth of field for scenic shots.

Good Lens on Panasonic Micro Four Third Cameras
3
Posted by: from Atlanta on 05/17/2011This lens is a good addition for Panasonic's Micro Four Third cameras. While the optical quality is only average, software in the camera is used to correct most distortions and chromatic aberrations. However, a strong degree of vignetting is evident on most images shot at wide open aperture. Center resolution is good throughout the range, and average in the corners. The 45-200 mm telephoto zoom (90-400 mm equivalent) features image stabilization that adds about two to three stops in real world use. Panasonic's dedicated AF motor operates quite fast and virtually silent. Unfortunately, the price for this lens increased about 15 - 20 percent in the last 4 - 6 months.
