Posted by: Chucker81 from Savage, MN on 04/28/2013Bought these Polk Audio speakers to upgrade my old Pioneer surround speakers and what a difference. The center channel speaker delivers the needed punch on Blue Ray movies without being overwhelmed by the subwoofer. On music DVD's, the sound is clear and bright, but without sacrificing the thundering bass needed to really rock. No need to spend $750 or more. These speakers get the job done.

Posted by: rarn5617 from Lafayette,IN on 02/13/2013Running a 7.2 Yamaha reciever with these speakers and two tower speakers. The sound quality was very clear and crisp, just lacked the bass i desire! I watch alot of action/sifi movies as well as alot of music! So bass is a must!!! Over all am pleased with the purchase, just to bad I had to buy the extra sub to complete the package!

Great System

Posted by: Richy116 from Eastern Ohio on 02/09/2013This system provides excellent quality sound for my home theatre setup. The subwoofer if set to max would probably register on the Richter scale. I don't use it anywhere near that level, though. I heard that Best Buy had these speakers on sale on Black Friday for a fraction of their normal price. Unfortunately, I didn't hear about that until the sale was past or I might have tried to wade through the crowds to get a set. I paid full retail, but I'm not disappointed with them.

Need a Little More for Your Small Space?

Posted by: RobP2013 from Street, Maryland on 02/07/2013I wanted to finally lay our 23 year old Mitsubishi 36" CRT to rest. I also didn't want to get crazy with a expensive home theater setup for my living room since I already have a much more serious set-up in the family room. I wanted to keep it relatively inexpensive but I wanted quality and impact too.
Enter the Polk Audio TL 1900 - Blackstone 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System
I bought this system instead of the TL 1600 which is one of the highest rated satellite speaker systems on the market when I looked. Why, because I wanted the next step up in size to fill my room more. WOW did it!! I have the sub on 50% and it still shakes the room. At the same time, because of the quality built into the guts of these things I can hear the smallest of sounds on any part of any program.
The system on a whole is very sexy looking and you can tell by the weight of the sats and center channel this in not some wimpy system, the sub has black wood grain panels that make you want to put in in the middle of the room it is so nice looking. But no one buys speakers because they look good. We buy them because of what they do.
What's nice is, you can hide these babies out of plain sight and people will look around the room trying to determine where all that quality sound is coming from.
I have these connected to a new Marantz NR1403 Receiver (I also bought at Best Buy) because of the very low THD setting not found on many similarly priced receivers these days. Yea, it's only 5.1 and only 250 watts but that's all I need in my living room and any real audiophile will tell you clean, pure reproduced sound is better than loud noise any day. Visual stimuli is delivered via a 60" Samsung LED (and yes, you guessed it, also purchased at Best Buy). I hooked up my PS3 to act as my blu-ray player to supplement my HD programming and for when I need to increase my adrenaline levels.
For you basic single family country home with a averaged size living room this set up is completely sick, off the hook and just plain old bad to da bone!
In short, if you want to take your movie or sports entertainment experience to the next level because the speakers built in to your big screen TV aren't cutting it and there's no room for large floor standing speakers then you may want to check out the Polk TL1900's (or even the TL1600's). You get a name you can trust, with reliability and quality built in. No mistake, this is a real no nonsense system that just doesn't take up a lot of space (although the sub is rather large, but would probably fit under an end table nicely) at a great price! There are smaller packages for more money. But why pay more for less? Polk rocks! But make sure you get a quality receiver to hook any quality speaker system up to, no matter which one it is.

Sounds Amazing

Posted by: Kaleidoscopic from Raleigh, NC on 01/15/2013I got this on sale. I would probably have given it 4-star at the retail price.
I already had a setup with Energy TAKE speakers and POLK woofer. This system beats that setup which is a lot to say since the Energy TAKE 5ch system is the best reviewed system that I had found on my research a couple of years back.
I had heard the TL1600 and liked the quality of the sound. Hence, I took a chance on this TL1900 system. I have been extremely pleased with that decision. This is a step-up to the TL1600 in terms of the crispness of sound and the depth. The sounds fills up the room extremely well- so don't let its small size fool you. The woofer for me is from the same company and same size as my previous setup- but the TL1900 woofer has better frequency response. The low frequency rumble in the silent scenes of some suspense/action thriller movies is super. It also has a sleek black finish and a nice curved design to complement most home decors.
I would rate this a complete 5 star for the sound reproduction quality, crispness, power, sleek design and ultra-black finish.

I became a fan of Polk!

Posted by: ckdmj from Cartersville, GA on 01/14/2013I was looking for a set of Energy Take classics and could not find them in any stores. I started looking at alternatives I would be able to take home and hook up that same day and was stuck between the Klipsh HD600, Klipsh Quartet and the Polk audio TL series speakers. The Klipsh Quartet seem to have the stats I wanted but it did not come with a sub and the speakers themselves looked cheap and out dated with a finish that would not match anything in my home. The Klipsh HD 600 speakers had decent stats, a winning name brand, an attractive look but when I turned over the display model I noticed it had a very cheap push pin cable connection like a speaker from Radio Shack. I did also notice the Klipsh HD 500 (the last variation) did not get very good reviews. So I looked at the Polk's next. They looked really good, shared similar or better stats with the Klipsh and Energy systems, had a verity of mounting variations, good speaker connections, came with a sub and were just the right price. I was afraid I might be settling when I purchased them but once I got them hooked up I realized I had not settled at all! I have a Denon avr-790 receiver and before the Polk speakers I had a set of Sony bookshelf and center channel speakers with a 10" Sony sub. The Polk speakers were slightly more expensive than my Sony speakers that were purchased individuality but perform 100 times better and take up half as much room.

Thunderous bass
5
Posted by: Richy1947 from Toronto, OH on 01/08/2013I have heard that BB had these speakers on sale on Black Friday for under $200. Sadly, I didn't know that and ended up paying full price ($499) but I still think they are well worth the money. The bass from the big 10" woofer is simply thunderous, and yet, it doesn't overwhelm the rest of the sound spectrum. Last night, after I went to bed and my wife turned the volume down, I could still feel the bass shaking the bed, and that was at the opposite end of the house! As I said, though, the rest of the sound spectrum is quite nicely reproduced, too. I have found that some of these small speaker, subwoofer systems give you good bass and bright trebles but lose the midrange. Not these. Nice full sound throughout the entire range. At the present, they are limited by my living room's weird arrangement and lack of space to set them up in a true 5.1 surround configuration, but I am hoping to change that soon.
