Returning Online Purchases

You can return merchandise to a Best Buy store within the U.S. with the option of receiving a credit or an exchange. When mailing merchandise to our return center, your only option is to receive a credit for your purchase. You will receive a credit for your purchase if it meets the return criteria.

Return Period

Return online purchases within the timeframes below. The return period begins on the date you receive your order.

  • 14 days for computers, monitors, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, iPads, tablets and radar detectors
  • 30 days for all other products
  • 45 days for all products for Reward Zone Premier Silver members*

* If you are returning a mobile phone or device with a plan, Best Buy is not responsible for carrier charges incurred after the carrier's cancellation period. Please refer to the terms and conditions of your plan to verify the carrier conditions.

Returns In Store

Avoid shipping charges and receive a refund more quickly by returning online orders to any Best Buy store within the United States.

  1. Include all original packing materials, manuals and accessories to avoid additional fees.
  2. You must bring your packing list or receipt and your valid photo ID. Best Buy accepts the following forms of photo identification:
  • U.S., Canadian or Mexican driver's license
  • U.S. state ID
  • Canadian province ID
  • U.S. military ID
  • Passport

We electronically secure your information solely for the purpose of returns management, in accordance with state and federal laws regarding consumer privacy.

Returns By Mail

Follow these steps to return your purchase by mail.

  1. Pack your return in the original package if possible.
  2. Include the return label and indicate the reason for the return.
  3. Include all original packing materials, manuals and accessories to avoid additional fees.
  4. For proof of delivery, we recommend that you return items via UPS ground or insured USPS.
  5. Please send all returns to:

If you plan to return a mobile phone or device by mail, please call Best Buy Mobile at 1-877-702-2211 (6:00am-midnight CT) for separate instructions.

You are responsible for all shipping charges. But if the return is the result of our error, you will not be charged for return shipping.

Please do not return items COD. Any charges for COD shipments will be deducted from your refund amount.

Refunds

Refunds will be credited first to the original purchasing credit card or PayPal account, and then to any gift card or Pitch In™ Card that was used. If you don't have the gift card, call us to request a new one. If you don't have your Pitch In Card, you'll need to request a replacement card online.

If you return an item to a Best Buy store, the credit is applied at the time of the return and usually posts within 72 hours. If you return an item by mail, please allow 14-21 days of processing time.

Please call 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) if you are returning one of the following:

  • A scheduled home-delivery item (e.g., major appliance, TV, furniture)
  • A computer that you plan to mail back for a refund
  • Performance Service Plan
  • Geek Squad® Black Tie Protection plan

If you are returning an item because it is damaged or defective, or the wrong item was shipped:

  • We recommend that you return the item to a Best Buy store.
  • If you prefer to mail it, you must call for special instructions: 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289
  • We will cover all reasonable and customary ground shipping fees.
Non-Returnable Items
  • Labor, delivery, and/or installation services
  • Pre-paid cards (e.g., music, photo, video or phone cards)
  • Digital content
  • Pitch In™ Card contributions
  • Consumable items such as food, drink and batteries
  • Items that have been damaged through customer use or abuse
  • Etched or otherwise personalized items
  • Non-defective, opened computer software, movies, music and video games
Returning Mobile Phones with Plans

When returning a mobile phone or device with a plan, you are responsible for insuring that your service is cancelled with the carrier. There are two ways to return your phone and cancel your service:

  • Return the phone in a Best Buy store. Be sure to tell the sales associate that you want to cancel your service.
  • OR

  • Call Best Buy Mobile at 1-877-702-2211 (6:00am-midnight CT) for instructions on how to return the phone by mail. Be sure to tell the associate on the phone that you want to cancel your service.

Failure to discontinue service may result in additional carrier charges. All carrier charges incurred are the full responsibility of the customer.

Exchanges are available for items purchased in store and online. To receive an exchange, you must return your purchase to a Best Buy store.

Friends & Family Pickup

If you use the Friends & Family Pickup option (i.e., you place an online order and someone else picks it up at the store), please note the following regarding returns and cancellations:

  • If the order is returned to a Best Buy store by someone other than the person who placed the order, the person returning the item will receive an in-store credit.
  • If the order is returned to a Best Buy store by the person who placed the order, a credit will be issued to the original form of payment (e.g., the purchasing credit card).
  • If the order is returned by mail, a credit will be issued to the original form of payment.
  • If the order is canceled before it's picked up at the store, a credit will be issued to the original form of payment.

Special Offer Returns

  • Free Gifts

    To receive a full refund, you must also return the free gift. If you don't do this, the refund amount will be reduced to reflect the value of the free gift.

  • Bundle Purchases

    You can return an individual item that was part of a bundle package. In some cases a bundle discount has been applied to each item. You will be refunded the discounted price, which may differ from the price if you purchased it individually. To review the amount you will be refunded for each individual item within the bundle, visit the Your Account page after you submit your order.

  • Quantity Discounts

    If by returning an item your original purchase is no longer eligible for the quantity discount, the discount received will be subtracted from the purchase price of the item being returned. You will be refunded the difference.
