Posted by: CollabMan from Riverside, CA on 05/09/2013This tablet is great for the occasional user, but power users and business users beware. Unfortunately, the processor is underpowered for running any intense applications. The screen responsiveness slows down tremendously when using process intensive applications, or any high high end graphics. If you're wanting to use this for business grade high definition video conferencing, forget about it. The picture quality is ok, but the application I was using couldn't switch between the front and rear camera, and would only recognize the rear.
Summary: Know EXACTLY what you're buying this for, or you'll be disappointed.

Best Tablet

Posted by: iwilliams from Augusta, GA on 04/28/2013I bought this tablet for school. I am currently in school for my MSN and all classes are online. Because this is actually a PC, I am able to do all of my work with this small portable tablet. This version of Windows is not extremely user friendly, but for a young tech savvy person like me, I learned how to use it quickly. The screen has great quality. Touch screen works great!!! The camera is great. The only problem I have had is with the S pen. I have had several occasions where it would not work. This problem was resolved when my device updated. If you keep your PC updates current, you should have no problem. Great device for users on the go like me!

Solid tablet for the casual user
3
Posted by: from Issaquah, WA on 04/21/2013This tablet has a nice large screen, and even though it is not full HD, it still looks really nice. The 64 GB SSD is a pretty descent size, but if you are like me, then you will go through that kind of storage space in a heart beat. The cameras are pretty good, didn't use them a whole lot. It comes with a stylus, which was a big must for me, and in some applications it is pressure sensitive, which was also a big must . However, it wasn't pressure sensitive in everything I tried, like Photoshop, which I use the most. On top of that the stylus is fairly unreliable when it comes to precision. The cursor associated with the pen lines up perfectly with the pen on the outside of the screen, but as you move in, the cursor floats away from where the pen really is. Even after calibrating it 3 times, the same problem still occurred, not a big deal if you're the casual tablet user, but if you were looking for something with more precision, then it gets very aggravating. The touch screen part with your fingers is just as precise, works for the most part, but just a little off... Supports 5 fingers, which was just fine to me, I don't think there is a time when I would need to use 10 fingers on a screen at once... The processor is painfully slow, everything lags when you try to open it, somethings can seriously take 5-7 minutes after tapping the icon to open. The sound bugged out constantly, and sometimes just went away completely, after a restart it would come back, only to go out again. It can't run office 2013, which was made for windows 8, which confused me. I know that 600 dollars is a pretty low price for a full Windows 8 tablet (especially when compared to the Surface Pro at about 300 dollars more), but I was really hoping to get more bang for my buck. Like I said, for the passive tablet user, it's just fine, though if I were a passive user I'd go with an android tablet.

Great Windows 8 Tablet

Posted by: DrTablet from Hackensack on 03/30/2013I have been searching for a Windows tablet for quite some time. I have bought SURFACE PRO, ASUS, Sony Duo 11, IPad 3, and this Samsung ATIV 500 T. I have returned the Sony and Surface Pro. Both of those were excellent. The Sony Duo is beautify in every way super fast I7 except heavy and big. Surface Pro 128 gig is perfect except for the CAMERA. I needed a tablet with a great camera because I wrote a medical app that involves images. The Samsung ATIV has an Good camera up to 8 meg pixels. It is light weight, has very good battery life, and can run the new Metro Apps and Windows Programs. The screen is clear and bright. The top resolution is 1366 x 768 . This makes things large enough to easily see and easy to use the touch screen. The Surface Pro at 1920 x 1080 is clear but small making it a bit difficult to work with you fingers. The hard drive on the Samsung at 64 gig you end up with about half ( 30 gigs) after all installed, however you can install a micro SD Card of 64 gigs to make up for that loss ( I now have 90gigs) I have installed full Microsoft Office 10 Pro and at the same time multiple apps from the Windows store. MS OneNote is so great with this device. The computer is responsive, interface using you fingers are excellent. Best of all there is a stylus for writing or using if for some reason you need to do some small work on the screen. The wireless works great. It goes to sleep very fast (like one second) and awakes in 2 seconds. You can setup a PIN number like the IPad to unlock avoiding to have to type in you password. Typing on the screen is great, but I also purchased the docking keyboard. It clicks in ok and a singlle button to release the tablet and away you go. I am now searching for a cover/stand to make this device complete.

Deserves way better than the 3.6

Posted by: jessicalh from Seattle, WA on 03/29/2013This is a great little machine. I'm hard on machines and this one has been my constant companion for 3 months now. Well protected in it's little bag w/a screen protector on it, but extremely robust in use (yeah, it's plastic, but the proof is in the pudding#. No pen lag at all in OneNote 2010, unlike previous atom tablets #the app store version is grotesquely slow by contrast, but I don't use it or want to#. Runs all the Windows ebook readers. The pen is a very good Wacom digitizer and the pressure sensitivity just works in applications like GIMP and Sketchpad. Had to remove a heap of bloatware, but with standard MS security, all the Samsung and MS updates installed, and a reasonable cleaning, the SSD has room for my music #only about 15 gigs#, Office, some GIS applications, GIMP, Sketchpad, and a mess of books. Flat dimensions are exactly the same as the 11.6 MacBook Air #the air fits exactly in the Samsung shipping case!#. The 2 GB RAM, which I thought would be an issue, is not #everything starts and runs fine...on the other hand I'm not running a compiler on it).
As a OneNote user, this has become my daily machine and I'm very happy with it for that purpose.

Apps lock up and the PC requires frequent re-boot
2
Posted by: Jon1946 from Colorado Springs, CO on 03/29/2013This PC makes a great, expensive reader for an experienced user due to the excellent display. ..................But, the applications lock up frequently, one of the Samsung background programs always shuts down and I cannot delete it, consequently there are a lot of re-boots................ This is either a Window 8 problem or error prone, implementation of the Samsung dual core processor instructions................ Norton is difficult to deal with also, Windows defender cannot be implement until Norton is deleted and I have not been able to do this. Norton may be hard coded into the memory...............................
