My husband and I are not into technology that much so we wanted something simple to setup and use. We just bought this a few days ago but feel it will serve its purpose well for watching DVDs and Blu-ray. One of the reasons we bought the Samsung is we have other products made by the company and have always had good luck them--hopefully this will be the same! Can 't comment about the internet connections/capabilities because we can't use them since we have satellite internet and are restricted by amount of downloads we can do.0 out of 2 found this review helpful.

what great about it:
super fast loading time. Plays BD-R's (Blu-Ray home videos from a hi-def camcorder), basic operation control panel on top, digital audio output jack, USB thumb or hard drive connector on front, small footprint, easy to use interface. Of course, like many newer players, it offers streaming from Netflix, Pandora, and YouTube. Netflix and Pandora need subscriptions, YouTube is free I believe. I am not interested in any of that stuff myself.
What's not so great:
Inability to play most video formats through the USB port. I ran tests trying out many different video types and found that the box and the specs do NOT accurately indicate what video formats can be played. I found it CAN play: MP4, MP3 (music), MPG2 files just fine. It can play: SOME wmv's, avi's (codec dependent). It does NOT play: MKV's of any type, DivX of any type, flv's, mov's, mts, m2ts, or ts videos! At this time, I awaiting a phone call from Samsung regarding these issues and misprints on the box and spec sheet. I seriously doubt they will call back. I did upgrade to the latest firmware, but did nothing notable. The specs also indicate it decodes surround sound audio. NO, it does nothing of that sort. It ONLY provides a means of sending encoded digital audio to your surround sound home theater processor for decoding! They should have put analog L/R audio jacks on it at least. No panel display of any type.
Conclusion:
easy to use. Quick, good picture, some tricks, like pause, frame by frame, some reverse, repeat etc. It lacks alternate ways of getting sound or picture other than HDMI and coaxial digital audio. That's it.5 out of 5 found this review helpful.

When I saw this was a 'new' product I thought it would have all the current USB 3.0 port. My mistake, it comes with USB 2.0 and so will not recognize my USB 3.0 external HD. Being USB 2.0, the throughput would max out at 480Mbits/s instead of the USB 3.0 speed of up to 5Gbits/s. If you are streaming video from the external HD use USB 3.0 if you can find it on a BlueRay player. I'm still looking for one.6 out of 6 found this review helpful.
