TV started to Flicker after 2 months
1
Posted by: from California on 05/20/2012I bought this TV in November 2011, have it mounted above my fireplace, which isnt an easy task for those of you that have it. Anyway, after about 3 months in Feb, my wife told me that the TV was flickering like a strobe light. I came home from work and sure enough it was, I called Geek Squad and they came out and replaced the Main Board. TV was fixed, for 2 days. They came out Saturday, Monday morning she calls me again and says its doing the same thing, I call them back and they come out a week later and replace the Main Board again, and the 2 inverter strips running along the sides of the panel. As soon as the geek squad guy powers it on, it starts to Flicker, he says its the panel and its going to have to be replaced. I called Sharp and they put in an authorization to get it replaced, That was Friday and I still havent heard from them yet. Highly recommend not purchasing this TV and go with the LED.

Less than 4 months and the screen is defective!

Posted by: from AZ on 05/11/2012It was the best deal ever. $999 for the Sharp Aquos 60" LCD. Has lots of settings to get the picture just right. Unfortunately the quality of the product is horrible. Less than 4 months, the screen has already develop a defect. Black line spanning horizontally across the screen. Cannot be fixed. Cannot be replace because the model is no longer available. Sharp does not have any new models to replace, but they do have plenty of "refurbished" ones. No thanks. Had to go to BB and get a replacement which is a different model. Not as settings rich as the Sharp, but at least I was able to get a replacement and able to keep my extended BB warranty. Disappointed with Sharp brand.

Posted by: from andover,mn on 04/23/2012As a previous Samsung owner, my wife told me to look into this TV. After much research in various AV forums, I thought I would purchase this set. I was very pleased with the video quality and the ease of use for my wife. I thought I would never own a Sharp product, but in my opinion, they have come a long way in the quality department. Very immpressive. It was also easy to mount on the wall using a wall bracket I had purchased from Monoprice for only $25.00

Great size tv for the price!

Posted by: from Rockford, IL on 04/10/2012I have had this set for about 5 months now. I bought it on a Black Friday deal. I have it hooked up to my PS3 for Netflix and sound system for audio. The speakers are horrible on this, but on the upside you get the HUGE 60" screen. It does not have all the bells and whistles that smart tv's have nowadays, but you get the big screen. It has 120hz of refresh rate, which honestly for an average person you wont even notice the difference on fast action scenes of any given movie or sporting event. Mostly all smooth action. It has analog audio output(white and red plugs), which for us with a little bit older receivers will appreciate. (now everything is digital)

Magnificent Beast

Posted by: from south carolina on 04/10/2012I love this huge monster! Well, I originally bought the Sharp LED model LC-60LE63000U with its skinny bezel, super thin, light weight cabinet and loved how it looked physically, but after three and a half weeks of messing with every setting I could find, I could not get a good picture. The contrast / black levels were never able to give any details in the dark areas without sacrificing black levels and finally, I watched the Pirates of the Caribbean Blu-Ray and saw clouds in the dark scenes. I had never seen clouds on any of my other TVs. This would not do. So back to BB it went. I traded it for this Sharp, the LC-60E79U and the picture is so much better with the first settings adjustment. I hated to give up the stylish new LED for the old fashioned heavy lcd but the wife is happy now. The picture is clear and sharp and the detail in dark images is there! My wife and I mounted it over the fireplace and almost killed ourselves. Really needed two big strong men for that task. It is every bit of 80 pounds but it feels like 20 tons! Oh, and the remote is as ugly a paddle as you can get on a thousand dollar tv.

Awful for sports.

Posted by: from Chattanooga on 04/06/2012I purchased this set on Thanksgiving morning at Black Friday prices. I only paid $799 plus tax to have it delivered to my door. It took about a month to get it because Bestbuy sold a lot more sets than they had in stock. Still, I thought I had gotten a great deal...at first. Now I realize that this TV is terrible for watching fast-action sports such as basketball and football. The problem is called motion judder. Basically it means that the TV isn't capable of rendering fast movement without little freeze ups. It causes the picture to be very jerky. I have a seven year old 50" Vizio plasma. It is far better for watching sports than this Sharp. There are two enhancements that you can turn off in the advanced settings menu that help a little. First, you can turn off motion enhancement . Second, you can turn off film mode. Turning these features off won't cure the problem with motion judder, but it will be reduced by about 50%. Bestbuy is still selling this TV. $1099 is the price as I write this review. I'm going to try to sell it to someone who isn't a sports fan. Then I'm going to take the money and use it toward purchasing a Panasonic plasma. BestBuy has the 55" ST30 (last year's model) for $999.

WOW! Great picture, better value!

Posted by: from NY on 04/02/2012Have had the TV set up for about 2 weeks. Unbelievable picture quality! It's a great TV and a great deal! Hooked up to an HD box and I'm loving watching sports on the big screen. Had to calibrate the picture, sound quality is decent, but I bought an LG soundbar with a wireless subwoofer ( $250 ) and now the sound is incredible! The TV is worth every penny but I would invest in a good sound bar to get optimal viewing pleasure from this set.

Excellent TV

Posted by: from South Carolina on 04/02/2012Excellent LCD TV. The picture quality is excellent. The sound quality is okay, not the worst or the best, which is common with most flat panel TV's that have the speakers to the back of the TV. I added a home theater system to enhance the sound quality, and WOW. So far I have no complaints and I'm very satisfied with my purchase. The TV itself does not connect directly to the internet, but if you are like me; it doesn't really matter because I used my XBOX and a router to connect the TV to the internet.

Posted by: from Mint Hill, NC on 03/22/2012This is a great TV with a great picture. I did not need wifi so this was a great entry price for a big TV. If I decide to get wifi, I can always pick that up in a DVD player later.

Great TV for video gaming or solo viewing.
4
Posted by: from Metairie, LA on 03/21/2012This review is for the 60" Sharp TV LC60E79U. Pro's: (1) Big 60" Screen. (2) Very bright picture. (3) Nice picture quality with HDMI 1080p input signal. (4) Nice sound quality. (5) Nice aspect ratio adjustment feature (called Dot by Dot) for optimal viewing (with 1080i/p input signal) of 4:3 (1.33:1), 16:9 (1.78:1), and 2.35:1 aspect ratios. (6) Very reasonable price ($1000) relative to competitor's price. Cons: (1) Picture may be too bright for some people who aren't used to such a big screen, especially after prolonged viewing. If so, just lower the adjustable brightness level or (if possible) sit farther away. (2) Optimal picture quality is within a viewing angle of 0 to 10 degrees (from a line perpendicular to the plane of the screen). Picture quality begins to drop off dramatically as the viewing angle exceeds 45 degrees. This TV is perfect for solo viewing or gaming; but, for a big family of video perfectionists, the picture quality drop-off may not be acceptable to those viewing from the periphery. (3) The TV is 5 to 6 inches at its thickest, and heavy. I am a very strong, grown man but needed help (from another strong man) to safely lift and mount this TV onto its pedestal. Newer models are much thinner and lighter. However, weight should not be a problem after the TV is finally positioned. (4) If the input signal is less than 1080p (i.e., 480p, 720p, or 1080i, as I receive from Cox cable co.), the picture quality may be markedly less, with some minute pixelization occasionally. However, a poor input signal is not really the TV's fault, is it? (5) The TV's remote control signal sensor seems to require a direct, in-line aiming of the remote. If the remote is slightly misdirected, the TV doesn't seem to receive the signal. So, for all you channel changers who like to shoot from the hip, a more careful aim may be required. (6) 120 Hz is one-fifth the refresh rate of a 600 Hz Plasma TV, but, despite this, the picture quality is more than acceptable, and you don't have to worry about the burn-in problem that some Plasma TV's have. In conclusion, this TV is wonderful for a solo video gamer or a small family who is trying to get the most bang for the buck. It doesn't have all the smart-TV bells and whistles, but many families don't need those anyway. I had been shopping around for a TV to replace the old Phillips 32" cathode-ray tube TV that I had bought from Best Buy many years ago, which had began to malfunction slightly. This was a very nice upgrade. My family received this 60" Sharp TV from a generous cousin and we are thoroughly enjoying it. I hope this review helps inform you in making the right purchase. ACE PG

Posted by: from Sparta, NJ on 03/21/2012The picture is great. The sound sucks. Nice not cheap TV that 2 days after buying it we had 2 go get a surround sound system for it because even at its highest we could still only just hear it. It's now great tho.

EXCELLENT TV for MOVIES, Football and HD
5
Posted by: from Colorado on 03/20/2012This is an awesome TV for the price. The sound is the ONLY thing not excellent - but if you are purchasing a 60" TV, the only real option is to run the sound through a receiver or amp. GREAT pic quality, easy to use and set up, HD is almost 3D in appearance. Blu Rays on this TV are amazing quality. I recommend this TV to anyone not looking for 3D. I do not use internet, so I can't rate that. However, I watch football, and the pic quality of NFL is unsurpassed!
