Bought this remote to replace my sony tv remote. It worked right out of the package. It's close to the one that it is replacing, although some of the function buttons are smaller and appear less durable. Otherwise a great remote.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Inexpensive Remote That Can Do Macros5

Since Logitech is pulling out of the universal remote business, I wanted to find an alternative to test out. The Sony remote was only $25 and it works great!
It doesn't have the LCD screen that my Logitech 650 has, but I never really used the LCD stuff that much anyways (and it chewed through batteries).
The Sony took a bit of learning and trial and error before I got it programmed, but once I learned the basics it was pretty simple. The remote works great and we have actually moved away from the Logitech because it works so well.
The remote does do macros, so that I can program it to turn on the TV, Amp and Bluray player at the press of one button and control everything the way that I want to.
I do wish the keypad lit up so that I could see in a dark room.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

For the money it is great, was not tough to set up ( I cheated and son in law helped) but with a bit of effort I could have done setup. It takes some work but if a plain universal isn't getting the job done then this might be what you need. Macros allow you to push one button and control all equipment for a particular mode. Example: I have one button to turn set top box, tv and receiver on for TV mode.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

When we got this unit we were excited because of the good reviews. Then when we tried to program it we were initially very disappointed. We could not get it to to work with our very old Yamaha amplifier. We figured it was just too old an amplifier and were about to return the universal remote. THEN I did an online search and found a review that said the batteries in each remote you are using to teach the universal remote and the batteries in the universal remote have to absolutely brand new in order for the "learning" function to work. Once I swapped out the batteries - presto. Now it works like a dream. Worth every penny we spent, and it was just a modest amount. We are very happy with it and would recommend it even for households with older equipment. Just be sure to start with brand new batteries all around.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Consolidates Sony remotes well4

I bought this to replace my broken Blu-ray remote (all my components are Sony but other remotes didn't work with Blu-ray). Was very happy I didn't have to program the remote for it to work with Other Sony things. Because it's a universal remote, the layout, functionality and labeling isn't consistent with all other Sonys but it's good. Also controlled my cable box without programming it. Video controls are either not as good or as clear as what comes with Sony players (not sure if I just haven't figured out or not) . Overall; it's a Sony.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

Works great with Vizio TV, Sony-Bluray, Windows Media Center
Great Learning Feature
Works great with Next Generation Extender
I had to "learn" the WMC commands (no presets).
If you are having trouble learning new commands, try new batteries. It wouldn't learn with the NextGen battery.1 out of 1 found this review helpful.
