Old Pioneer guy just became a Sony guy5

my old pioneer was 10 years old vsx-d812 the bass was always to hard or didn't work 1/2 the time the speakers you needed a meter to set up this new sony has auto calibration with a microphone works great smooth bass and no more wild sounds if you are afraid of what others are saying about this receiver just do what I did buy a extended warranty from best buy and let them take care of problems also I like the new HD-D.C.S. sound over NEO 6 (Sonys new cinema sound it rocks the house and clean surround sound) the only real thing I will miss on my old receiver is all the banana speaker hook ups other than I do gain HMDI hook ups that I didn't have on my old receiver.4 out of 4 found this review helpful.

This is a very good entry level receiver. Has multiple connections in the back similar to the higher end receivers. Needed this to replace a older receiver that was not hdmi capable with the new TV's. Sound is very good. Would buy this receiver again if my other one goes out.2 out of 2 found this review helpful.

For the price the sound was great. Had speakers already bu receiver would not use 7.1 like this Sony model. Battles and special effect give you sound in all corners of the room3 out of 3 found this review helpful.

My old Sony receiver was an overall better unit and cost about the same. I bought this one because of HDMI ports. Standby mode not so good. No speaker control for inside and outside speakers. Sales persons knew little about receiver, no demonstrator in store to get a feeling for it. I would have purchased something else, perhaps not even in this store. I am disappointed for cost vs features. Store wanted $170.00 to set up. Why, no floor sample to try and no in store service. I have never had to pay for setting up any equipment ever. I spoke to Sony and someone walked me through it. Why should anyone have to be on phone for over an hour to figure out how to set up a receiver. Manual is not useful.1 out of 10 found this review helpful.

Great Deal For Cheap5

This is hands down one of the best receivers I have owned. I had previously had a high end receiver that cost me a pretty penny, and one of my lovely cats decided it would be the perfect thing to throw up on and short out, so needless to say I wasn't a happy camper. I had gone into the Braintree Best Buy to look at new ones, and was not looking to spend an arm and a leg on something as I did last time. What I had eventually settled on was this model, and I couldn't be happier. I was initially going to go for the model that has 40 watts less per channel, but I like my movies and music loud and have a lot of area to fill with sound. This thing rocks, and honestly, sounds better than the high end receiver I had purchased previously! Blu-Ray movies & PS3 games sound especially crisp and each sound is defined in each speaker just the way you'd hear it in a movie theater. I could not ask for a better product from Sony. As of late I'd been doubtful of anything they create aside from Playstations, but once again they've proved to me that their product is both affordable and full of the quality you'd expect from such a compnay. The only problem I had with it, which was my own fault, is that if you plan on putting a cable box or something on top of it to conserve space, don't. It will wind up overheating on you. This of course is obvious as that's why there's vents on the top to begin with, but many people like myself try to save space and this is not something to save space on! Make sure it is well ventilated. Since I've moved it to an area where nothing has blocked it's breathing room, I have not had one issue with it. You will be extremely satisfied with it I can assure you!8 out of 8 found this review helpful.

Very easy to use and set up. When hooked up my Samsung tv, blueray player, and other equipment its smart enough to turn itself off and on and change to the correct input necessary for what ever im using.3 out of 3 found this review helpful.

Nice 3D AV Amplifier5

I bought this to replace an earlier Sony AV Amplifier that was not 3D capable. The owners manual on this unit was as hard to follow as the unit it replaced but it was still simple to install the amp. The sound quality is excellent but I find I have to crank up the volume setting more than before to get the same amount of actual volume from the speakers. If you have a large TV viewing area you may not be able to get the loudness you are looking for. I have a small house with small rooms and it has been a perfect fit for us deserves a five star rate.10 out of 10 found this review helpful.
