    Posted by: from Twin Cities, MN on 04/06/2013I dont even know where to begin with this camera. The 24 megapixels is brilliant. When shooting in RAW or even JPEG the photos just look true. The body of the camera is super slick and the Tri-Navi control is awesome. Shutter speed, aperture, and ISO right at your fingertips making tiny tweeks super fast and efficient. Probably the biggest thing you'll notice is the viewfinder. Yes it is an electric viewfinder. This is the first OLED veiwfinder ive used and i was a bit susceptible at first but after a few shoots i am used to it and pleased with it. The autofoucs is not as fast as some of the NEX competitors but it isnt horrble. If you invest in a different lens and venture away from the kits lens you will be pleased with auto foucs speeds. This camera is also packed with alot cool picture effects and all the extra stuff you can find in a DLSR along with superb video capabilites. I would defenitelt consider this camera to my anyone

Granted I'm a beginner and have a lot to learn, I enjoy shooting with the NEX 7 because its easy, fast, light, and I can switch to HD video in an instant. I had a Canon EOS rebel ti before so this was a nice upgrade. Haven't fooled around with other non Sony lenses yet but very pleased to know that the NEX 7 can take other lenses with an adaptor. Aperture, exposure, high ISO, and shutter speed can all be ma ually adjusted to capture any shot. And intelligent auto is very reliable as well. This camera is simply amazing.

    Posted by: from SA, TX on 11/14/2012Frankly, I held off on buying any of the Sony NEX series models for quite some time, the form factor took some adjusting - apologies for using a well-worn cliche but I'm an old-school kind of guy from the SLR side of town - old habits die hard. Anyway, the 5N beckoned and I took the plunge - to be honest, I should have waited and bought the NEX7. To compare with my 5N, Sony really nailed the handling with the 7. The grip is larger, is rubberized for better grip and there is a perfectly-positioned thumb-rest on the rear. It feels great and the hold is secure and confidence-building. There is still no feature for saving custom settings - a pretty big oversight to be honest. Completely resetting a camera to your preferences for a given type of shooting with the spin of a dial is a necessity, especially at his price level. Not a show-stopper but this needs to be fixed. There is some menu-diving to get to settings I want to change frequently BUT...the tri-navi dials make menus almost unnecessary. This is a great implementation of a way to rapidly change shooting parameters. Like the 5N, you can assign behaviors to the buttons but you now have more buttons [well, dials] to use. Very well-executed idea and very effective whether using the EVF or screen for your display. Which is my next rave - the EVF is fantastic! Forget what you've probably seen as far as EVFs go - Sony nailed this one too. It's not perfect but is far less fatiguing to use than others out there. My shooting eye is less than perfect with the years but I've found that the EVF is remarkably usable even thou the vision in that eye is distorted. Finally, I can shoot comfortably using my dominant eye instead of having to adjust and use the other. Nice job. Built-in flash - yes! Ala the Lumix FG-2, you can hold the flash back a bit and use it for bounce...sweet! IQ is, as expected, is outstanding. My latest phase is B&W shooting with still a lot to learn. Even though my 7 is setup for that goal, being able to save out RAW files for later work in either color or B&W does not disappoint. I haven't gotten around to buying an adapter to use some of the other glass I have but will one of these days, which is to say I'm happy so far with results from the kit 18-55mm lens. Lens selection is still somewhat confined. This is not to fault the NEX5N in any way but when comparing the 2 models, I'm extremely pleased with the NEX7. IQ is exceptional with awesome low light/high-ISO quality. Add a great handling design with fast shooting feature changes and you have a winner.

    Posted by: from Dearborn, MI on 10/17/2012I think one more lens of 55-210 mm is required. 18-55 mm is for near scenery and portrait, 55-210 mm is for the far scenery, for example, when you want to shoot a squirrel with about 25 inch or more, the 18-55 mm lens' photo will be too small.

The menu system should be a little bit user friendly but it isn't anything that you won't get use to after a while. Great pic quality Great video quality. The frame per seconds is like shoot a still video!! The lens are a bit too bulky. I think that takes away from it's portability. Also the lower end N5 has a touch screen and this one doesn't but this camera does have a higher mega pixel it shoots fast and it has a pop up flash. I think bluetooth should be added to the cameras to send pictures to your computer, tablet. etc. Overall Great Camera but pricey and should have more cutting edge features for the price.

The NEX-7 has so many groundbreaking features it's hard to figure out where to start. So let's start with the extra good: a 24 megapixel APS-C sensor. Same size as in most consumer and prosumer DSLRs. This thing delivers. Image quality is stunning. Dynamic range can't be beat. there is so much latitude in the camera RAW files it produces that it never ceases to amaze me. This is a mirrorless camera. The viewfinder is a 2.3 megadot OLED. great for framing, and focus adjustments...but best at showing you an accurate representation of what the file will look like. It's hard to work with in bright sunlight, but not impossible. Same with low light situation where things get noisy in a hurry. It's an interchangeable lens system using Sony's E mount. Not a whole lot of lenses available for the E mount, but wait, there's more. There are lens mount adapters for most every brand of lens in use today. Including Canon, Nikon, Leica, Olympus! There's much more to tell, but I'm running out of space and time. I highly recommend this camera.

    Great alternative to DSLR

    Posted by: from Menifee, CA on 03/30/2012This camera is awesome, at first I was doubtful selling my Nikon D90 but now that I have been shooting with it I have no regrets. It has hardly any shutter lag and the pictures I have taken are sharp with a lot of detail(although this will depend on your lens). This camera does everything and even outperforms most if not all entry level DSLR's. The only downside is that it does not have a big choice in lenses specifically made for the NEX, although you can buy an adaptor so you can use your lenses that you currently own but you would have to use them manually. I am sure Sony will be rolling out more lenses for the NEX . I will soon be going on vacation so i cannot wait to take it with me.

    Excellent upgrade from Sony Nex-5N

I ordered directly from Sony back in December, so I'm apparently among the first to receive a camera as shipping has been backed up after the flooding in Thailand. The Nex-7 is a significant upgrade from the Sony Nex-5, which I've had for about six months now. The sensor size has increased 50 percent -- from 18 megapixels to 24 -- and most other specs have been enhanced as a result. For example, the camera now shoots full 1080p video at 60 frames per second, an upgrade from the Nex-5's 24 fps. Low-light sensitivity has also been increased. Perhaps the biggest difference between the two is the control scheme. Where as the Nex-5 had one dial that ruled them all, the Nex-7 has three dials (two on top and one on back) that can be individually customized. I use the two on top for aperture and shutter speed and the dial on the back for ISO. There are two other "soft keys" that can be customized as well for settings such as focus type and exposure. The other big difference from the Nex-5 is the addition of an electronic viewfinder. The Nex-5 has a 3" backlit screen on the rear of the camera -- the Nex-7 has the same screen, but adds an electronic viewfinder. Unlike an optical viewfinder such as you'd find on a DSLR, the Nex-7 recreates the scene in front of you electronically with something like 2 million dots. I've found it pleasant to use and extremely sharp and accurate. It also offers a diopter, so you can use the viewfinder without wearing your glasses -- very convenient. The last difference between the Nex-5 and the Nex-7 that you'll notice is that the Nex-7 is bigger and heavier. Not much, but enough that you'll notice. The Nex-7 also feels more solid and well-made. For those upgrading from a point and shoot, the Nex-7 will represent a significant upgrade. Picture quality for this camera rivals the Canon EOS 7D DSLR I use alongside. Sensor size is almost identical for the two cameras -- the difference is that the Canon uses a reflective mirror and the Sony is mirrorless, which enables you to create a camera that is much smaller and lighter, yet still yields phenomenal pictures. A couple nits. One, the button for starting movie recording is too easily pushed since it rests on the upper right corner on the back. I also don't like that the logo for "steady shot" blinks constantly regardless of whether the feature is turned on or off. Also, the lens selection for this camera needs work; the lack of prime lenses (i.e., lenses with a fixed aperture) is particularly crippling. Still, the 18-55 mm zoom lens that comes with the camera produces good pictures, and the camera's built in electronic wizardry corrects for any distortion of the lens' long barrel length. My last nit is the same for the entire Nex line -- the menu system is onerous. It's a chore to flip through three or four screens just to format the memory card, for example. I would recommend this camera to anyone who, like me, has gotten tired of lugging around a heavy DSLR. This camera is also much less conspicuous than a DSLR, so you can feel free to snap pretty much anywhere without people glaring at you. Because this camera is small and light, I take it with me everywhere; this alone makes it better than my Canon 7D. Also, given the large sensor in the Nex-7, there's not much compromise in picture quality that I can tell.
