Synopsis

The first "Trek" film to feature the cast of the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series without any of the members of the original series, this action-packed hit was well received at the box office. The Federation comes under attack by its ongoing enemy, the Borg, a cybernetics-enhanced race that once kidnapped Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), "assimilating" him into a drone. As a former prisoner of the Borg, Picard is ordered to stay out of the new battle, but he cannot resist and orders the brand-new starship Enterprise into the fray. The Enterprise follows the only surviving Borg ship through a time tunnel, where they intend to conquer Earth in an earlier era. The Borg have targeted the work of Zefram Cochrane (James Cromwell), inventor of warp drive, the device that makes interplanetary travel possible. As the Enterprise crew attempts to stop the Borg from interrupting the work of Cochrane and his assistant, Lily (Alfre Woodard), Borg drones invade the Enterprise and take it over piece by piece, while Data (Brent Spiner) is captured and seduced by the Borg Queen (Alice Krige). ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Posted by: from Colorado Springs, CO on 04/30/2013This movie is one of my favorite sci-fi movies. It has a great story which has many connections to the series it is based on. It has its suspense, action, and drama down to a science. Highly Recommended.

Best of the Next Generation
5
Posted by: from Frederick, MD on 01/19/2010I am always in favor of the Next Generation series versus other Star Trek series so my evaluation might sound bias. This in my opinion was the best of the Next Generation movies (not including any TV epidose). The story line was solid. The acting of the Borg Queen and Captain Picard were absolute. DATA was as androidly as he could be, except the few scenes where the director had him behaving as a human. In this movie, the supporting casts of the crew was not concentrated on one character but rather the whole being used for the plot. I think this method actually helped to bring out the contrast between the dark side and the best of mankind as portraited by the Queen and Picard. The Blu-ray rendering was excellent with both video and sound. I didn't care much for the extras or other miscellaneous items in any movie so no opinion there. The only quip I have with the movie was the last scene where the Vulcan starship landed on Earth, come on, the people were standing no more than 50 feet from the fire blast of the descending ship. But as I stated above, this was a great film and nothing could not be forgiven.

You don't even have to be a Trekie

Posted by: from Wichita, KS on 11/18/2009I enjoyed this movie very much. The Plot kept me interested. I did find myself wanting to know more which could be because I have seen none of the previous Star Trek movies. However, I believe that the characters were developed enough in the movie so that I did not feel lost. The cinematography was great, I really enjoyed the way the movie was shown. The special effects are awesome, which is why I will be getting this one on Blu-Ray. I was also impressed with the Acting, I feel that the actors did well to fill their roles which allowed me to get drawn into the characters. I am not a Star Trek fan by any means, however this movie was great. I would recommend it to anyone.

Indisputably, one of the best "Trek" films!

Posted by: from on 11/01/2009Ignore the rants of the user known as "JusttheTruth" if you have not seen this film. This film was a box office smash. It received an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup. It has a very high rating on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, especially in contrast to the rest of the saga. Only the Abrams reboot and the even-numbered original crew movies have been admired as much as this.

Irritating at best

Posted by: from Nowhere, OH on 08/27/2009DO NOT WATCH this movie. Its nothing more than a 15 minute plot dragged out for a couple of hours (INSANE emphasis on dragged out). There was no point during this movie that really gets the attention of the viewer.
