Posted by: from Louisiana on 05/26/2013I was looking for a camera system for my home. I looked a few different brands and decided to go with this system. It comes with everything you need to hook it all up providing your cable runs are not longer then 50ft but no problem they sell longer cables. It took a few hours to get it all hooked up and working. I did have to call tech support to get the network feature working because I couldn't figure it out and they were awesome first class tech support. I love this system I can view all of the cameras from my phone where ever I am and the picture quality is good too.

Posted by: from Ohio on 05/25/2013This is a great system for the home or small office. It is extremely easy to setup and get running. Mobile viewing setup doesn't require an extensive wealth of networking knowledge. Very good system for the price.

Posted by: from Rochester, NH on 05/08/2013I purchased this system last year after finding someone swimming in my pool at about 4:45 in the morning. My wife and I had recently bought our house and thought we were in a safe, desired location so you could imagine the shock when I found a stranger in our pool. There was no telling what lengths people would go to next. I had a camera system in the past and quickly realized you get what you pay for. I know this system is a little more expensive than some other models but Swann makes it worth every penny. We have been using the four included cameras since purchasing the unit and decided this week we are going to get four more. It provides a great sense of security knowing we can keep an eye on our pool, mailbox, driveway/cars, property (which neighbors are letting their dogs do their business on our lawn?), etc. I installed the system myself with three tools: a drill (with philips tip), drill bit (for drilling holes for the wires), and some silicone (to fill in any excess gaps once I fed the wires through the holes). The capacity of the DVR is wonderful and the software is easy to understand. The ability to access the cameras remotely using Swann's free app makes this a terrific all-in-one bundle. I love the ability to snap a picture of what I see happening on in the cameras right from my smart phone. You can set the system up to email you if enough motion is detected and you can specify the areas that you want the cameras to detect motion. Highly desirable. I can't recommend this product enough!

Not recommended for remote surveillance

Posted by: from Missouri on 04/21/2013Worked good for the first month and a half then system date started changing back to Nov. 2011 so Playbacks weren't accessible. I spoke to Swann support - they said it was a known problem of which a fix was being worked on. I have been calling them on and off for over two months and only get the same response. I don't usually have a monitor hooked to the system but instead use my desktop computer via Ethernet cable. Unfortunately you can't change the system date unless you’re directly on the Swann DVR. I also access the system via my ASUS Tablet while away from home. The problem with that is there currently aren't any apps available allowing Playbacks of activities. Note that even though you lose the ability of playbacks when the date changes back to 2011 (which is about every 3-days), you still get emails when events occur. The problem with those emails are that most don't contain pictures of what caused the event (I have my emails for events set up to occur every 30 seconds so at least some of the emails have pictures). Bottom line; This system is presently not useful for remote monitoring via a device using apps and would be good for desktop monitoring if the system date didn’t keep changing. I was an engineer for IBM, then Amdahl, and finally EMC so to me, it’s inexcusable not to have the date problem fixed within a month or two.

Posted by: from Dallas, TX on 04/13/2013I would prefer a 1000tvl camera setup, if you have the ability go with a higher resolution, if you need a very basic resolution this is an ok setup.
