Worth the money

I got this cooling pad about 4 months ago and then all of a sudden one day it started getting loud. I took it apart and found one of the fans was not working at all. It sounded like the fan was hitting some part of the plastic. Finding the screws was a challenge, they are under the lil black things in the corners and there is one under the door to put the chord. I took the little sticky things off the corners and stuck them under each corner of the fan... it seems to help some but probably purchasing replacement fans are in my near future. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, you can buy better for cheaper.

Powerless fans

Connected it via USB port on my external monitor and the fans start. Did some research (after the fact) everyone says it needs an AC power supply that is near impossible to spec.

Great idea, poor implementation

Posted by: Zayik from Reno, Nevada on 05/20/2012This product could have been one of the best coolers I've used if it wasn't for the multitude of faults it had. Some of the great things about this cooler was that it was built to allow airflow. The thin panels give room for the heat to dissipate more easily. In addition to this, the fans, while on high settings, produced adequate airflow. It actually kept my laptop about 10 degrees cooler, which is quite an accomplishment for any laptop cooler.
If I were to rate this purely based on how well it keeps a laptop cool, I would give it a 5, however, there are many other aspects that need to be taken into account.
The first aspect is durability. The cooler is made out of flimsy plastic, which ultimately makes it easier to brake.
The second is that the design, while great for airflow, lacked many means to reduce noise. Due to a poor design in regards to noise, the cooler has a loud hum to it. In addition to this, there is also a constant rattling sound on both low and high settings. It is understandable to have noise from a laptop cooler, however, this noise should only be emitted from the fans, rather than from any vibrations made from the fan.
The third fault, I found out after I had exchanged my first Targus cooling pad. I had hoped the first one was faulty, however, the second one contained even more faults. It rattled more, had a louder hum, and also had another fault.
The cooling pad was unable to start at lower settings because it required too much power.
All in all, if you are deaf, or have $100+ sound cancelling headphones, then this product may be for you. However, for all others, I would highly recommend avoiding this product.
Remember guys, when looking for a laptop cooler, it should be designed to allow heat to dissipate. This means don't choose any flat surfaces unless it has holes, like mesh. Curved surfaces are a plus.

Ports don't work

Posted by: fritz479 from Gold Canyon AZ on 05/03/2012I bought this mainly to be able to plug in my printer, etc. My new computer only has 1 USB 2 port and 2 USB 3 ports. Some of my stuff does not work on the USB 3 ports, even tho salesmen say it should. I thought this would be the solution, but it isn't strong enough to power anything but my mouse and the cooling fans. Targus says in their literature witht the cooler that there is an adapter available for purchase. A call to them says there is no such thing. I returned the whole unit and bought a cheaper unit just for the cooling fans.
