    Easy to use

Posted by: from Mesa, AZ on 03/29/2013Great speed, easy to setup and use. I liked very much that I can scan multiple documents while the OCR engine runs in the background on previous scans. Image size is at least 10 times that of my old scanner and this killed it for me. Neat tech support easy to get in touch with and quick to respond. Unfortunately nothing could be done about the size of the image. In my case a busy page that scanned at about 370KB on my old scanner would scan at about 4MB on this scanner. I ended up returning the unit before the 30 day mark.

    Great Job on receipts
    5
Posted by: from Dayton, OH on 03/10/2013I had a couple of boxes full of receipts over the years. Being a guy my receipts are crammed into my pocket and carried for days usually rolled up, folded, wrinkled to say the least. I empty my pockets and put into a drawer so I thought I'd give this a try. It did a WONDERFUL job scanning my receipts and picking up data. In many cases even better than I could trying to find the info to review for accuracy. It was cumbersome but I scanned about 500 receipts in about 4 hours. Of course it took longer because I had to smooth and unfold my receipts. I would say about 20 receipts were not scanned correctly which is incredible considering the condition. I had a few hundred Lowe's receipts and for those of you who are familiar it's not hard to smudge their receipts but this scanner picked up the info. It did try and read the name as Loves though. Again wonderful job scanning didn't matter the size or direction you fed to it. Full sheet scanning also worked wonders. My disappointment was in business cards which it had difficulty with those not just standard print design. I also tried to incorporate the receipts into Quicken and it could not talk to the newest version of Quicken. However the searching ability the software gives is top notch. I did several random searches and it found them no problem. Biggest issue is not Neat's fault but companies who use cryptic descriptions for products. IKEA is bad for this and Home Depot as well. So unless you can recall what they call an item you might not be able to find it but Neat will! If this was a $200 product it would be well worth the price. But at almost $400 it's hard to justify unless you are running a business and especially one where you need to do a lot of returns and need to find a copy of the receipt. Exceeded my expectations though.

Posted by: from nashua nh on 03/04/2013I purchased the Neat Desk to get rid of clutter in my home office. Very simple to use and the option for duplex copying is a real plus. I had contemplated the smaller version Neat receipt but didn't think that could handle my needs. Although a bit pricey I'm planning on using this for many projects. Very happy with my purchase.

    Fast scanning, easy to use

Posted by: from California on 01/23/2013I use this scanner with a Mac Pro tower computer with lots of ram. This is the best scanner I've ever had. I bought it to scan receipts and keep them in digital format after having to shred bags of papers, receipts, documents at the year's end. The software works flawlessly when scanning receipts. It puts all the data into the proper place. It even sees the tax paid and puts it in it's own field. You can customize the fields too. After a bit of learning how to create and manage cabinets and folders I cleared out piles of receipts is a matter of minutes. This scanner is fast! I tried an export of the folder data to Excel/Numbers as well as a pdf file. Perfect exports! I also had 5 years of daily entries printed out on 8.5 x 11 paper. I created a separate cabinet with yearly folders. I then did batch scanning of about 40 papers per batch, double sided. It only takes about 2 seconds per scan. The only thing I had to do was drag the date from the document into the date field. This creates a searchable database. Depending on the quality of what you are scanning you should not have to correct any data. I had to occasionally correct the date on my documents due to the condition of the papers. These daily entries were on paper printed from an old dot matrix printer using a PC486 machine many years ago. The Neatworks OCR software was still able to recognize the words. In less than an hour I had a full year, 365 days, done! What's more impressive is that I exported the year as a single PDF file. The pdf was then readable as continuous or single page. Even though it scanned both sides of each paper as one document, when in a pdf file each page was separate. To back up your work just drag the cabinet from 'documents' to whatever your backup media is. You can then 'open' from wherever your backup is if needed. Be aware that when batch scanning, the scanner may pause to allow the computer to catch up. It will automatically resume scanning. I have over 1500 scans in 2 days with no problems. Overall, I'm impressed with the quality and speed of this scanner. I should have bought it years ago. I would highly recommend it.
