Great Product for the Price5

I wanted a DVD recorder to connect to my satellite DVR and record to DVD. This player works perfectly for that. I was unsure if it would work because people use this for doing other things. I was able to record from my DVR to a DVD-R without any problem. It plays back on both this DVD player, and my other DVD player which is just a standard DVD player. I did find the configuration diagram a little bit confusing at first but was able to set it up in about five minutes. For the price, it can't be beat in my opinion. It does not come with any HDMI cables, but does come with one audio/video cable. For connecting to the DVR, I needed an additional audio/video cable since the TV and DVR I am using are not HD.0 out of 0 found this review helpful.

This product was advertised with "Timer Programming" however after speaking with customer service I was informed that you can not set the "Timer Programming" as it is in reality a "One Time" recorder. I spent way too much time on this product only to discover I need to return it and start over. In this day and age why even sell this type of product. Complete waste of time!6 out of 12 found this review helpful.

One of the only 16X9 SD recorders on the market.4

Bought this machine for around $125.00 to archive material recorded to my Cable DVR. Does a great job and does not require "finalizing" like similar SONY and Panasonic machines. The 16X9 SD recording format is great and it has the flexibility to record 4X3 also. Biggest drawback is no HDMI or Firewire inputs.4 out of 5 found this review helpful.

A delight to set up and use5

This recorder replaces my LiteOn which I had used for 7 years but wearing out. I had read many reviews and a little aprehensive as to set up issues but took the advise of many prior reviewers to read the instructions before starting. This proved to be the smartest move out of the box. Connection to a HD box from Charter and my HDTV took a long study of the schematic in the manual. The manual doesn't resemble the actual HD cable box set up but by following and thinking through the connection flow I was able to adapt Toshiba's flowchart to the actual cable locations. In one day I have been able burn off the TV, play DVD's and sync the system. Only thing left to do now is to replace the RCA jacks connected to the TV with a HDMI cable.
Also I wish the timer display was larger, across the screen as an optional selection. I produce sports DVD's and play back while looking for highlight shots. I record the time and use that while editing on my computer. Timer is small on the front of the recorder. Not a deal breaker. As a final thought on this recorder and as mentioned earlier, this my first new recorder in 7 years. There is a natural tendancy to equate anything new to the old system and this was no exception. Once I understood how the various functions worked, I really like the DR430KU8 out of 9 found this review helpful.

Very Good Recorder - Could Be Better4

I was hoping for something better. Best Buy does not offer enough variety of choice.
This is a very good recorder. But DON'T expect HD quality recordings. The reason is that the input is a single RCA plug or S-Video. You cannot record beyond the input quality. I don't know why there are not more choices in inputs.
One very frustrating missing feature is the amount of time left on the DVD. For some reason this has been left out! So, you have to calculate the recordings you have against the recording quality you selected to figure out remaining time. How dumb is that?
I love that there are thumbnails of each recording and the recording starts to play while in a highlighted video while looking at the recorded list.
Editing titles is difficult. Though I only looked at it once without reading the manual. So much for ease of use for editing. Steve Jobs would have fired the entire team!
The recording is very fast, as soon as you press the button. My previous unit had to wait 15 seconds. It is also very quiet, except when you stop recording, it spends time to update the index on the disk. Actually, this is a good feature so that the disk does not get messed up if the electricity goes out later or you turn the unit off.
There is no way to change thumbnails - annoying when the thumbnail is something other than what you want like the end of a commercial.
When you put a new disc into the machine, the disc is formatted right-away. That is convenient.
If you are looking for high quality HD recordings, this is not the unit you want to purchase. In fact, let me know if you find one. This is a very good unit to record half decent recording. For the price on sale it is worth the money.
The unit does have inputs in the front (covered by a door) to record from a camcorder.18 out of 21 found this review helpful.
