Great for playing, copying, and making DVD's/VHS4

Without an RF coax input or output, it doesn't hookup to older TV's very well. It does hookup to newer sets easily. Someone said it didn't hookup to record from Direct TV - It does, and it's very simple (Component Out from Direct TV to L1 Component In on the DVR --- select Input = L1 for the DVR to see the signal). The DVR doesn't have a built in tuner. It expects to get any signals from a cable box or satellite box. You can record TV programs by using the built in recording timer, you just have to have the cable/satellite box on and set to the channel you want to record.4 out of 5 found this review helpful.

I threw away the box after installation, and when I went to use it for the first time, it wouldn't even turn on. Worst $90.00 I ever spent. I still have receipt, but without box I can't even return it. I had to shop elsewhere to get another one that works.

i returned this item because it requires an external digital tuner in order to record DVD. external digital tuners are not to be found anywhere, certainly not at BestBuy.6 out of 8 found this review helpful.

An average DVD player, and an average VHS player though these are getting hard to find. I bought it to trascribe VHS tapes to DVD, and for that it works very well.7 out of 7 found this review helpful.

I priced getting my vhs tapes transferred to dvds they wanted 9.50 a piece. When i had over 30 to do this just wasn't affordable. So now not only can i get them transferred i can also make copies for each of my children for a reasonable price.9 out of 9 found this review helpful.

Not compatible with PAL VHS4

I bought this to transfer some old tapes from the 90's to DVD. Not compatible with PAL VHS. PAL is the video standard used in Europe and other parts of the world. The United States used the NTSC.
While playing a tape recorded in PAL format on this device you will experience a high-pitched shift in audio! And a distorted image.1 out of 4 found this review helpful.
