WARNING

CHOKING HAZARD: Small parts included. Not for children under 3 years old.

It's the final 10 seconds of the game, and you're down by four. With the ball on your opponent's 30-yard line, you call the play that will soon prove to be your shining moment. You approach the line, and you can hear him barking taunts through your TV. Surveying the defense, you notice that his cornerback is out of position and you call a streak. You hike the ball and the cornerback blitzes, just as your receiver tears up the field. You hit the button and launch a prayer. Being wide open, your receiver snatches the ball out of the air and lands in the end zone. The win and the glory are yours — and your opponent has nothing to say.

Hear every reload, taunt, direction and footstep with the Ear Force XP400 Wireless Dolby Surround Sound Gaming Headset for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Feature-rich Headset, but sound falls short
4
Posted by: from Madison, WI on 05/15/2013I got this headset on a deal of the day for $145, but even for the current price, it is a pretty good headset. The first thing I noticed after I opened this headset was the build quality. I just feels solid and well-made. It's also extremely light. The mesh material on the ear cups and headband breathes very well and is pretty soft. I've used the headset for continuous sessions of up to 5-6 hours and never felt a hint of discomfort. The battery is fantastic. I never used it for more than 8 hours on a single charge, but the battery never got low. I would probably guess that 10-15 hours of battery life is a good estimate. The features on this headset are fantastic for its price. I found the cell phone Bluetooth pairing to be extremely handy. During games when my phone rang, I could just hit the Bluetooth button on the headset to answer the phone and hang up when I was done. You still hear game audio, but you can turn that down separately from the phone call audio. The four equalization settings are good, but really the only useful ones are flat and bass+treble boost. The mic is pretty good. People online said they could hear me clearly, but the mic picks up a lot of background noise. There is a feature where you can choose to hear your own voice when you talk, which is handy, but it makes the mic even more sensitive to noises around you. The sensitivity isn't a big deal, but if you're playing in a noisy room, your buddies online might not appreciate it. I really only had two issues with this headset, one of which was probably not the headset's fault. My first pair of these kept experiencing interference from something, and I never really figured out what it was. I ended up exchanging them for another pair. The second pair was much better, but every once in a while there's a little bit of crackling and popping in the speakers. But like I said, this may not be the headsets fault. It may just be the interference in my house. Finally, the only real problem with this headset is the sound, specifically the bass. The speakers simply can't handle the lowest bass tones. Games like Tomb Raider that have really deep bass cause crackling in the speakers. Even with the bass boost turned off, this was still present. From what I've heard, this is an issue in other turtle beach headsets. In the end, this headset is incredibly close to being perfect, but the bass crackling prevents it from getting 5 stars. If you can stand the crackling, or don't play bass-heavy games, this headset would be perfect for you.

Great sound but expensive

Posted by: from Yorktown Heights, NY on 04/15/2013I had the X42 which sounded good but the ear cups were too small for my ears. They took 2 AAA batteries that died very quickly. I exchanged them for the XP400's. The built-in lithium battery of the XP400 is great. It lasts a long time. Sound is the same as the X42's which is very good. The surround sound feature is a bit of joke. I can't make out any difference between the settings, but maybe that's just me. The ear cups swivel which allows them to sit much more comfortably than the X42's. Wireless chat is a bonus but not critical since It didn't bother me much with the X42's. You can adjust the earcups by pulling them in or out of the bridge piece that goes on top of your head, but even at the smallest setting, they are a bit too big. Greater adjustability would be useful. I can't imagine children using them.

Great features

Posted by: from Detroit on 04/11/2013This is a great headset. However, it has its flaws. First, it doesn't come with an adapter for the HDMI. The box says its range is approximately 33 feet, but I'll walk out of the room and it will cutoff from gameplay. The headset is a bit loose, and it doesn't cancel out sound very well. I was told that i sound robotic with talking through the mic on xbox live. I didn't pay full price for this headset, so for the price i payed this is a great headset. I would never spend $219.99 on this headset. I would've just went with the Astro A40s if that was the case

Once set up very easy to use

Posted by: from Brookshire,Texas on 03/17/2013A little high in price , but they work really well . Not as loud as the corded ones , but you have no wires to get tangled up ,or trip over . Since I play games on line , it's cool to hear all the sound clearly and in surround sound to boot . Have had a single ear head set. There is no comparison !

Great Surround Sound

Posted by: from Houston, TX on 02/27/2013This design is very comfortable. I usually play in marathons of 6-8 hours. I am able to wear this for at least 5-6 hours straight before I start feeling the pressure on my ears. Other headsets I've owned get uncomfortable after 1-2 hours. Only downside is that if you want to connect the fiber optic output from AV Receiver, it does not recognize Dolby Digital or DTS (i.e., to watch a movie without waking up the house).

Really enhances the game play

Posted by: from Houston, Tx on 02/01/2013I was first introduced to the Turtle Beach headsets by my friend. He purchased one with the Dolby Surround Sound and loved it. I was skeptical at first, but once I tried it and saw, or rather heard, the difference it makes to the game play. I found myself wanting a pair so I paid a little more and got the XP400 so I could have them be wireless and have Bluetooth. It is definitely worth the price. However, if wireless is not that important to you then I recommend the wired one. However, I advise that you get one with the Dolby Surround Sound. Otherwise, you'd just be wasting your money. Pros: - The Dolby surround sound is awesome! I use it for playing Halo and it really helps. It's great to know where shots are coming from and how far away an explosion was. It might not seem that important, but you'd understand once you try it. - It has a great sound - Super comfortable on the ears - Easy setup - Bluetooth makes it possible to work with the PS3 - Chargeable battery Cons: - The price, of course, but I think it's worth it - The Bluetooth device that connects to the controller is a little big - For some reason Turtle Beach thinks everything needs flashing lights. The on button pulsates when on, the Bluetooth light is constantly flashing, and the Bluetooth device connected to the control flashes ever second which is very annoying while playing. I fixed the latter problem with electrical tape and the other two flashing lights are on the side of the headset so I don't see them while playing. Other then the things being a little pricey and loving flashing lights, I love this thing and recommend it to any gamer.
