Posted by: from Missouri on 02/22/2013Initially had problems with both start and door unlock. Contacted Viper. Sent me back to the installer. Re-situated unit. Starter worked most of the time but unlock was erratic. Called Viper. They did something to update software. Now it works as advertised almost every time. Exceptions are when I try to initiate from within some buildings that seem to block the signal.

Posted by: from Missoula, MT on 01/25/2013This unit has not worked well at all. Installed in 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser. Installation caused airbag sensor malfunction which now has to be reset and repaired at Toyota dealer (Best Buy did say they will reimburse the cost, let's hope they will honor that). It has drained the battery several times for unknown reason. It only works some of the time, the Iphone remote says the start signal was received by the car, but nothing happens, the car doesn't start. Have had it less than 30 days, it's not working again today. Will give Best Buy installers one more chance to get it working, if problems persist I want it uninstalled and $299 price refunded.

Just stick with physical remote systems

Posted by: from Sicklerville, NJ on 12/08/2012I'm not sure whether its my unit or the really bad installation I got from my local store, but the unit barely works and neither the store nor Viper has been of any assistance. Each company points the finger at the other. Not to mention, but installation took a total of 14 hours across two separate days. Honestly, I've never been more unhappy with a purchase. I'm considering having it uninstalled and sold and just using the money for a reliable two-way system.

Great Product!!! Starts MY Car From my phone!

Posted by: from San Diego on 08/28/2012My apartment's outside a big city and I definitely have a healthy commute -- the Viper SmartStart remote starts my car from my apt. in the morning and from my work offices when I'm just about all set to head home at night. It works great! I can: -- Remote start the car from my phone -- Program my normal schedule into the app -- Track the car with a GPS, track the speed and set up "geo fences" -- Look at status alerts that monitor my car -- track the car in the parking lot and -- track parking meters when I'm parked there I got the system pretty cheap -- the installation was a little more expensive and took several hours -- but once they were done the app works great! Any issues that you read about with the app is the quality of the install, according to the techs who put it on my 2009 Toyota Camry. Spend the money and get it done right -- it will work great and you'll love it!!!

It has been such a huge help every morning when the kids are way ahead of me running to the car and complain and nag at me that its too hot. Such a relief to not hear as much complaining! It's also great that i can be notified so quickly if there is any detection of someone trying to break in my car, or anything happening to it! Especially parking in not as safe areas, i feel way more assured now as ever.

Posted by: from Chicago on 01/11/2012At first I was apprehensive to buy this given all the negatives reviews here, however I noticed that the people reporting problems all were early adopters of the Viper SmartStart when it first came out. I decided to try it and I love it. I purchased mine in December 2011 and it appears all the bugs are worked out. The start works everytime and I NEVER get a message that the system is down or busy (I think Viper solved that early problem). With this model I can start my car, lock and unlock my doors, use the panic alarm to find my car, or open my trunk. The only features I really use are the car start and door unlock. The higher priced model one up from this costs $100 more but all it gives you in addition is a manual key ring starter in case your smartphone isn't working. I didn't need that so I stayed with this model and it's perfect and so easy to use.

Posted by: from Iowa on 12/21/2011I was looking for a remote start for my wife's 06 Toyota Sienna. I've used other Viper products in the past, but was always limited by range. I had the VSS3000 installed along with the XpressKit PKALL in Oct 2011, Brandon and Brian at the West Des Moines Best Buy on University have always done a great job! The beauty of this system, it has infinite range as long as you have cellular coverage (which some people don't understand, this runs off the cellular networks and you need coverage in order for the app to send the signal to your vehicle). Our cell provider is U.S. Cellular and we're using the app on a HTC Desire (CDMA, BravoC), my Android is rooted w/ v2.3.7, my wife's is unrooted running v2.2. Having the national plan from USCC allows us to start the vehicle wherever we are. The farthest away I've started our van is 300 miles. When we first had it installed, sometimes when the starter activated it didn't actually start the vehicle and just kept the lights on like it was started. We took it back to BB and they changed the timing to retry to start the vehicle after 30 seconds if the first attempt failed. It has worked perfectly since.

Viper Smart Start

Posted by: from Arlington Texas on 12/21/2011Having read all of the previous reviews I was a little concerned but my son has one and he has had no problems so we took the plunge. Works great. Very simple to operate, there is a slight lag between pushing the start button and the actual start but...The only down side is the price - they are proud of their equipment. I went the day before installation to talk with the installers. Shon was a great help. Our installer AAron was great also. Both willing to explain and answer all questions.
