Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: ...And Five of Us Are Left
The Seaview is assigned to investigate an uninhabited volcanic island in the Pacific, where men from an American submarine sunk In July of 1945 may have survived. Admiral Nelson (Richard Basehart) and a new crewman, Werden (Robert Doyle), scout the island in the Flying Sub and get caught in an underwater current that flings them into the cavern with the WWII survivors. Those men, suddenly faced with the chance for rescue after 28 years, must each confront their own personal demons, none more so than Lt. Nakamura (Teru Shimada), who has survived with the hope that they would be rescued by representatives of the Japanese Empire. Nelson tries to secure the rescue of all concerned before the island's volcano erupts, only to learn that Werden has a deeply personal stake in confronting one of the men, and that Nakamura is prepared to sacrifice himself and all concerned to redeem his honor as a soldier and the honor of his country. Finally, it falls to Captain Crane (David Hedison) aboard the Seaview to use every ounce of skill he possesses as a sailor to effect the rescue of the admiral and the others. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: Jonah and the Whale
The Seaview takes on a joint mission with a pair of Russian scientists to salvage the remains of a wrecked Soviet undersea lab, which was destroyed by huge schools of migrating whales. When one of the team is killed in an accidental collision with a whale, the surviving scientist, Dr. Katya Markhova (Gia Scala), insists on making a last-ditch effort to examine the wreckage. Admiral Nelson (Richard Basehart) won't risk another man, and decides to accompany her himself on the dive. But the dive is interrupted by the arrival of a huge sperm whale, which swallows the entire bell. Captain Crane (David Hedison) manages to get the whale sedated sufficiently so that it comes to a temporary rest on an undersea plateau. He has hope that the admiral and Dr. Markhova could be alive if the bell is intact, and decides mount a rescue mission -- inside the whale. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
