Trouble
2
Posted by: from Georgia on 01/06/2012I am aware that this is a cheaper end fridge. We do enjoy all the space and how easy it is to clean. However, we are on our second service call in 2 years without any answers. Beware. Thank goodness we have an extended warranty.

Posted by: from Rancho Cucamonga Ca. on 12/04/2011Nice Refrigerator for the price with plenty of storage. The only thing I don't like is that at times it's hard to open doors.

Great refrigerator for the price.

Posted by: from Port Charlotte, FL on 11/05/2011I've owned this refrigerator for 2 months and I love it! The water and ice through the door feature is great and the filter makes the water taste excellent. I have owned a previous model of this same refrigerator and I must say, I have noticed how the quality of some of the parts have gone down. The front of the door shelved used to have a thick lip that curled over and was very strong. The door shelves have no lip and if you pull on the front it bends outward. I am afraid to put any strain on them for fear they might crack. Also, there is no meat drawer, which I really miss. The freezer shelves have been improved and no longer fall out of place. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and would choose this model again.

Broke down in less than a year!No customer service
1
Posted by: from boca raton, fl on 10/27/2011I had a GE fridge for over 20 years at my Florida vacation condo. Last October I purchased this Whirlpool fridge which, though noisy, worked fine. We went back north in early May and just returned in October to find that the fridge was not working. The 1 year warranty had expired only 2 weeks before!!! The fact that the fridge had died sometime in the summer did not get any sympathy from either the Boynton Best Buy store or from the Whirlpool customer service department. I had to pay a repairman for labor and the relay switch part that had failed. I'm very upset with both Whirlpool and with Best Buy. I wouldn't deal with either again and don't recommend anyone else does either.

Good Price-Bad Smell
2
Posted by: from Brooklyn, NY on 10/15/2011I had this refrigerator for about six months now. Initially I was very happy with this product. It's roomy and the water and ice dispenser is a nice touch. My problem is an odor coming from the back of the refrigerator. The smell of stagnant water. I checked inside and outside for leaks. There were none. After a few days the smell became stronger. I put in a service call to Whirlpool and a technician came to my home. After a check of the refrigerator he said it is water that is sitting in the drain pan. The drain pan is not removable and is fragile. I was told to pour bleach in the pan as to help with the odor. He did warn me that instead of a bad smell my place will smell of bleach. This fix would only last a few days before the odor would come back. Had I known this could possibly happen, I would not have bought this product. The ice maker is on the noisy side this is also a con.

JUNK...JUNK...and JUNK!!!
1
Posted by: from Austin, TX on 07/28/2011WARNING..... This fridge never fully cooled, even after raising the temperature control to the maximum setting of 5-coldest. Then both the fridge & freezer completely stopped working in just 2 days!!! Also, the ice dispenser is soooo annoyingly loud, there's no meat drawer, and the non-crisping drawers are CHEAP. This product doesn't even deserve a rating of 1. Not to mention you can never get in contact with their NEW deliverer through the callback number they give you as well as the many phone numbers I received from Best Buy and JB Hunt (the old deliverer). So forget the "time window for delivery"...they will just show up when they show up. There is MUCH more to say but I've already wasted two weeks of my time dealing with this HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE!!! DO NOT BUY THIS REFRIGERATOR!!!

OK for a budget side-by-side refrigerator
3
Posted by: from San Francisco, CA on 07/24/2011We were replacing a similar side-by-side that died just after its 5 year warranty ran out. We hadn't expected to need a replacement so soon, so we wanted something low-priced. This one fit the bill. But in usage it is on the noisy side. It seems to have slightly less usable space than the one it replaced, though the nominal cubic feet are comparable. Icemaker works good (though invariably a bit misses the glass held under the ind-door dispenser). Keeps food cold, which is the primary requirement. We're happy with it, but are regularly reminded that we chose a low-end model.

Posted by: from auburn, ga on 07/14/2011Bought it 1-4-11, compressor died 4-15-11, took repair man 3 visits to fix it, ran fine untill 7-7-11 and now the refrigerator is 61 deg.F and the freezer is about 30 deg. F with compressor running 24/7. Waiting for repair man to come tomorrow (7-15-11) to fix again.

Love this fridge
5
Posted by: from WNY on 02/17/2011I was told not to purchase a side by side from many people, I'm glad I turned a deaf ear. This refrigerator is roomy! It's fully stocked with what we need and there's room to spare. The freezer side looked small but when I transferred food from my crammed freezer on our older fridge there was still room for more items. It only took a few hours for this refrigerator to get to it's maintained temperature and the water hook up was easy and fast. It does take 3 to 4 days for the ice reservoir to fill up and the first few times will make you jump if you're not used to the loud bang. After the 5th day, we hardly noticed it. The gentlemen who delivered our fridge were very nice and extremely careful when getting it through the door. They also took our older fridge down to the basement. The price can't be beat & we couldn't be happier. My in-laws are also considering buying this model. Thank you Best Buy!!

skip this model and whirpool in general

Posted by: from OR on 02/08/2011Interior plastic looks cheap and poor in quality, it'll crack if you store food for a big family. I had bad experience with this model when liner in the fridge section cracked all around shelves on a side wall next to freezer section, i guess temperature difference makes it cracking, as the other side was intact. Luckily for me it happened before 1 year warranty expired. Whirpool (no blame for customer service) eventually gave me their online store credit for price of the fridge, i spent tons of money to upgrade to their top model, and guess what - its liner made of the same cheap plastic, and they don't even give a warranty on liner for more than a year, warranty extension is only on functional parts. Totally dissatisfied. Rule of thumb to follow while shopping for a fridge: - if shelves secured on side walls, make sure liner is made of the same material as the fridge doors are (door liner designed to hold gallon bottles, it is good in quality) - otherwise chose fridge that has shelves on metal racks and don't load too much into bottom drawers as these are still on the liner. Anyway, I'm staying away from Whirpool products from now on.

Great Basic Side by Side
5
Posted by: from Orange County, CA on 12/29/2010Positives: It's wonderful that it's a Whirlpool, because we know its quality. Plus the value for the money is a steal! We got ours on sale on top of the great everyday price. Ice maker, ice crusher, and water are all good. Runs quiet. Spill-proof shelves. Negatives: No Deli Drawer, and No Gallon size shelves in door.

Best deal for 25 cubic feet
4
Posted by: from Oklahoma City, OK on 12/05/2010I shopped around for a while looking for a good deal, and this was it. Every other refrigerator of equal size was around $1000. I love the amount of room, the features (liked crushed ice in the door), and especially the price. I have to be really nitpicky to find bad things to say about it. The only bad things I can mention are: 1. It can be a tiny bit noisier than other refrigerators I have owned. 2. The door shelf in front of the ice maker won't hold much of anything (even the smallest of frozen foods). 3. You have to be mindful of the crisper drawers or they won't close all the way. Everything else about this unit is outstanding.
