Windows 8 Pro Upgrade - Windows (251 out of 472)
Okay

Posted by: from Joliet, IL. on 05/11/2013I had a problem upgrading. Received an error that I could not install to a flash drive. I did not have a flash drive installed. Contacted Microsoft tech support and after an hour of troubleshooting we got disconnected. I had the preview version installed. Windows 8 preview took a lot of getting used to. Radically different from Windows 7 and seems to be built for a tablet or touch screen.

Better than Vista

Posted by: from Charleston, SC on 05/10/2013Better than Vista, but if you aren't using a touch screen it is not as easy to use. I am a Mac user, but like I said, its a pretty good system compared to the others.

wish I could go back

Posted by: from Dallas Texas on 05/06/2013Without a doubt the worst decision I have made in 2013 was installing Windows 8. I hate it and count the days until I can get Mac or find a way to get this thing off my computer. My guess is that the system was designed for tablets or touch screen computers. However I did not know that upfront so now I am stuck with this garbage. I would pay twice what I paid for Windows 8 to get rid of it. So in a word I would say Window 8 SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Better than expected

Posted by: from on 05/06/2013Was recently building a Frankenstein Legacy PC from old parts scavenged from various HP prebuilt machines. Final specs are Pentium D 920 (lga775) 6gb ram, EVGA GT 640 GPU, with PATA & SATA drives. I wanted to purchase Windows 7 at retail, but as that was not available, i was forced to purchase Windows 8. I have windows 7 on an Ivy Bridge Laptop, and was hoping that I'd use a light OS on this legacy computer. After installing and using windows 8 for a month now, i must say i am shocked at how well it performs. On a Pentium D 920 from 8 years ago, this thing boots up in 20seconds from power button to sign in. All the Apps work well too. Don't believe all the negative press.. try 8 for a while and see for yourself how nice it is

Good Software

Posted by: from St Clair Shores, MI on 05/04/2013I like the new software but it does take time to learn. I still have trouble finding some things. It was easy to install. I think it would be easier to use if I had a touch screen.

Posted by: from Miami, FL on 04/29/2013I am a Mac user as I have found that Macs are much better for my line of business. However, there are two programs that I use frequently that only run on Windows. This is why I installed Windows along with Parallels on my Mac. Works well, and now I can use all the programs I need.

Loving Windows 8
5
Posted by: from woburn, MA on 04/28/2013I would recommend Windows 8 to anyone upgrading from Vista, XP or earlier. Going from 7 to 8 will not yield many differences aside from the Start button being taken away. On the topic of the start button, it is unnecessary with the new Metro interface, but it is very easy to add using 2nd part apps. The upgrade from XP to 8 has been smooth except for a few compatibility issues because of non-supported software (AutoCAD 2013 for instances...AutoCAD 2014 is supported). I only gave 4 stars for ease of installation because I installed 8-64 bit over XP-32 bit, so had to do a full wipe. The only other upgrade I would recommend along with the operating system is a new Solid State Hard Drive...what a world of difference it makes, but that is for another review...

Windows 8 should be classified as a virus!
1
Posted by: from Wilmington, NC on 04/27/2013I was one of those that suffered a temporary lapse of sanity and willingly upgraded from Windows 7. It was the WORST decision I've made and now I cannot go back to 7 without losing all files on my PC. Stick with Windows 7!

Stick with 7

Posted by: from 44122 on 04/27/2013If you install this and find you wish you hadn't or preferred Win7, before you reinstall 7 first try downloading and installing free "Classic Shell" by sourceforge. It redeemed it somewhat for me.
