Synopsis

Set in the era before Professor Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr became mortal enemies as Professor X and Magneto, respectively, director Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class follows the two former allies as they lead a powerful team of mutants on a mission to save the planet from nuclear annihilation. Charles (James McAvoy) and Erik (Michael Fassbender) were just young men when it began to appear as if the world was careening toward destruction. As the Doomsday Clock ticks faster toward midnight, the time comes to take action. Realizing they could use their unique powers to avert a global thermonuclear war during the Bay of Pigs crisis, the two powerful mutants launch an intense recruitment campaign with the support of Dr. Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne) and the CIA. Before long, Charles and Erik have assembled a crack team that includes Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Angel (Zoe Kravitz), Havok (Lucas Till), and Darwin (Edi Gathegi). Meanwhile, the malevolent Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) plots to plunge the world into war with the help of villainous mutants Riptide (Alex Gonzalez), Azazel (Jason Flemyng), and Emma Frost (January Jones). In the process of saving humanity, however, Charles and Erik clash, setting the stage for Professor X to lead the X-Men in the fight for good as Magneto and the Brotherhood spread chaos and destruction on a global scale. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A very fun movie

Posted by: from Los Angeles, CA on 04/13/2013This X-men film is fantastic, a much better film than the previous two X-films. It ranks as one of the best next to X2. The only problem with these X-films is it deviates too much from the source material, I understand the need for that at times but the characters should at least fit their history, age and timelines. Overall, I recommend the film on the strength of the actors and the the director alone. Watch this movie if you are at all interested in comic book movies,

Great origin movie to see how it all started

Posted by: from Royersford, PA on 07/08/2012If you are an avid fan of comics, then you'll find this movie to be a good buy. It covers how some of the oldest X-Men characters learned about their powers and developed them to become heroes. Being based partially on actual historic events makes it even more interesting to wonder whether mutants really do live among us and how we would treat them if they did.

Posted by: from Raleigh on 03/13/2012This movie has it all: It takes place in the '60s, there was great acting, the special effects were amazing, there were special appearances by Hugh jackman and Rebecca Rojman, and by the end in the movie Erik Leshser finally Magneto. My favorite part of the movie most of all was when Erik threw the missles back at the american and the russians. Of all the X-men movies I've seen this is the best yet. I can't wait fo rthe sequel.

First Class is moving, funny and fun

Posted by: from Troy, MI on 03/04/2012Personally, I love this movie. It rivals X2 as the best of the bunch. The tone was breathtakingly perfect. Setting it in the early 60’s was brilliant. This gives the film something no one really has seen before in these type of films and certainly elevates it from the X-Trilogy. As a fan of that trilogy, it is everything I was hoping for and maybe a bit more. This is the Xavier and Magneto story everyone has wanted to see since X1 and it’s done remarkably well. It’s easy to see why this movie has surprised the doubters and seems to frustrate the few haters. It’s solid all the way through. The first half features a set up with characterization so clever and so engaging that it’s shear perfection. That perfection seems to stumble a bit under the weight of the villain’s master plan. Things get a bit too grandiose and certain military action boarders on the crazy but the film never loses the fun factor throughout. First Class is moving, funny and fun and maybe not technically better than X2, it’s certainly as entertaining.

Very nice BluRay after u can watch

Posted by: from Indianapolis on 02/15/2012The Blu-ray itself is excellent and one of the better Xmen film. What is highly disappointing about this product was getting it to play in my Sony player. At first I thought I had purchased a poor quality copy. I exchanged it for another and had the same issues. Thank goodness for the internet. There is a procedure to get this disc to play ; unless you have a Samsung. Fox of course takes no responsibility for a poor product and the Best Buy return policy of only being able to exchange for the same product in this case sucks; especially if you have a Samsung and can't play the disc. Hopefully at some point Fox will issue a new disc or fix the issue in some way. Again, once you can see the film it looks and sounds great, but you shouldn't have to go through a process to get it to play in all Blu-ray players.
