Zombieland is definitely one of my favorite zombie movies. Had me laughing throughout the movie and I fondly rewatch it at least twice a year. Thought I would get the steelbook because I was expecting it to have some great inserts and pictures. The steelbook itself looks pretty cool, You open it up expecting some great stuff but all you get is the blu ray disc. No pictures, no booklet, no neat inner art, NADA!

So, the 4/5 star rating is not for the film - It's for the product. The film is a fantastic, fun, and stupid ride through one of the better of the many zombie franchises. Not winning any academy awards, but its unpretentious presentation is definitely a winner among my friends and family. The positive: This is a good blu-ray. Sound and picture are what I would expect from a good, physical medium. The picture is about the best presentation that I would expect could easily be extracted from the source, and the sound is balanced well. It's not demo material, but it's a big step up from DVD and streaming options (Comparing @mazon, particularly) in clarity. The negative: This will sound a bit nit-picky, but it needs to be said... BestBuy has a habit of labeling everything in a metal box as a [Steelbook] in their product listings, and then have too few images to back it up. Any "REAL" steelbook is built by a European company, called Scanavo, and has a particular style and construction, generally considered to be the highest quality of a handful of options for metal box packaging. This product is actually a slightly different package, made by the Star company, called a "MetalPak"... Unless the product description changes, the label of [Steelbook] is misleading, and I think that it merits at least a loss of a star. Using a trademarked and copyrighted name and then delivering a competing product is not cool. May seem a little thing if you're not a collector, but if that's the case, no one will make you buy a Steelbook anyhow. The included picture shows the spine difference on the common metal packaging types as of 2017/2018 in the US and European markets. Conclusion: Fun film, sub-par packaging for the current product description (Product labeled as Steelbook on the website, but is a Star MetalPak).

Yet another take on the zombie apocalypse. However, like Sean Of The Dead (another excellent film) did for he UK, it adds a comedic twist that gives it fresh "life" (so to speak). It's the classic story of the struggle for survival in the good'ol USofA when it all hits the fan after the dead have risen. Apparently derived from a proposed tv show that even FOX passed on (go figure), it's the story of a young man who's ever growing list of survival rules (wonderfully highlighted in digital effects) & a shotgun help him to stay alive. In his travels he meets a seemingly reckless guy who takes great delight in the dispatching of the undead, but their strenuous friendship is tested when they meet two sisters who have their own unique rules of survival. The tv show also would've had a "Zombie Kill Of The Week" in every episode - watch for it in the flick. PLEASE DO NOT REVEAL THE SURPRISE GUEST STAR because when it happens, you will be so surprised that if you were told in advance it will probably spoil the moment. It's THAT worth it. Also, stick around through the credits for the easter egg after them. Language, violence & gore makes this unsuitable for younger viewers.
