Meh Posted by: from: Michigan on This movie is ok. There is just enough historical appeal along with the excitement of vampire slaying to keep you interested through the whole movie. It was definitely worth the low cost and my 8 year old son enjoyed it enough to watch it all the way through more than once (I just had to explain to him that the real Abraham Lincoln wasn't really a killer of vampires in his spare time)

Surprisingly good! Posted by: from: Aurora, Il on I never heard of the book before the movie came out. When I saw the first poster for this movie in the lobby of the local theater, I thought this was a joke. When I took a closer look at the poster I noticed this is a Tim Burton film. Burton does have crazy ideas. I do not think I would have gone to this film if it was not done by him. I did not know what to expect because there were not many trailers available for this film either. I found out this was adapted from a book about a week before this was released to the theater so I did not read the book. Within the first five minutes of the film I knew from the style of film Burton did not direct this. I thought this was going to be a disappointment. It was not. What I liked most about the movie is it did not go between a drama and a quirky comedy. There were not any cute puns (which I absolutely hate) to change the tone of the story or the characters. The script stayed on track. Many critics blamed the movie for taking itself too seriously. I think it did the right thing. If it would have gone between drama and comedy it would have not had a purpose. This movie is fun despite the fact it is a drama. It tells the alternative story of Abraham Lincoln. I know there are not vampires and this movie was not attempting to convince people there are. It is clearly a piece of serious fiction like 'The DaVinci Code.' If people want an escape from reality with some fun storytelling and great action sequences this is a great movie to see!

Odd, yet entertaining, look at Lincoln, Civil War Posted by: from: Stevens Point, Wisconsin on A creative, if bizarre, exercise in secret history, yet not offensive to the actual peoples and events of the period, naysayers' claims to the contrary, as other films take odder liberties with history (did anyone think X-Men: First Class trivialized the Cuban Missile Crisis, by making it an evil mutant plot, for example?), but are harmless. Those concerned with such things have a responsibility to read a history book, and learn how things really happened. Yes, the movie, written by the same author who wrote the book, took more liberties with history than the book did (2 premature historical deaths--no spoilers), but then, this is Benjamin Walker's portrayal of Young Mister Lincoln, not Henry Fonda's. Even with the weird circumstances and motives for Lincoln's actions, as well as the horror and action star elements, it still manages to depict Abe as a noble, honorable icon, not a joke.

awesome genre blender Posted by: from: on Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is such an awesome concept. It follows Lincolns rise to the white-house but along the way he is also a vampire hunter, it shows from the beginning why he becomes the way he is and it isn't as absurd as you might think, the movie is done very well. All the historical facts are there, dates, names, towns. Timur Bekmambetov from Kazakh directed, he directed american films Wanted, Ben-Hur and wrote the screenplay for Hardcore Henry
