Great music5 Posted by: from: Stevens Point, WI on These guys really can rock it, but also play some mellow stuff with a variety of sounds and melodies.

BIG WRECK IS BACK!!5 Posted by: from: Fairborn, OH on Great album start to finish. If you like Chris Cornell, Black Keys, or just plain good rock and roll, give these guys a shot.

Perfection of melody, emotion, and so much rawk.5 Posted by: from: Los Angeles, CA on Albatross is a journey. Press play and then simply watch what happens. Ever curious as to what Jimmy Page or Supertramp might have on their Ipod? Then buy this CD. Despite being phenomenal tracks out of the gate...this album will grow on you more and more. Months after you have listened to it, you will have a moment where you hear a riff that you haven't heard before and you will chuckle to yourself and say: " I fully realized the level of this genius." And you will listen again and again. The delicacy of Ian Thornley's playing and his ability to sing directly to your heart is nothing short of astonishing. This is a player who can stand comfortably (literally and figuratively) next to Eric Johnson and go toe to toe. Really. This is an album that were Mr. Hendrix still alive, I believe he would have it on his stereo playing all day long. Every instrument has been given their proper headspace...the entire album breathes and COOKS! Just please, stop reading this review and buy this record, and re-discover everything that you've always known about how good music can truly be.

Best CD of 20135 Posted by: from: Hawthorne, nj on This seems to be the most fun Ian Thornley/Big Wreck has had in years and just maybe that feeling will be as contagious to the listener. You get the sense that Albatross was an unbridled joy in creation. It jumps genres with ease while remaining sincere wherever it lands. Every song is different in texture, space, tone and feel, yet they hang together through their superior melodic quality, sophisticated composition and "tight but loose" approach to production. There's hard and soft, dark and light and enough memorable hooks to keep you listening for years. The reverence & reference span generations of music. Ian has absorbed much and the band is able to deploy the pieces he's loved in fresh new ways while keeping genuine. There are multiple tracks which cover the entire Big Wreck/Thornley catalog in their appeal. Fans of each phase will have something to sink their teeth into and there's even some exciting new ground being turned over, so get ready for layers, crunch, muscle, texture, nuance, beauty, hooks and funk!
