a noble failure Posted by: from: on Like The Godfather Part III, Alien 3 may be viewed more as more of a classic had it been the first of the series. In both cases, however, the fact that there are not one but two predecessors which are hard acts to follow make the third seem anticlimatic by comparison. It was indeed bold to begin the film by crash landing Ripley on a penal colony, which results in the loss of her friends. However, this makes the events of Aliens pointless, and, as anyone who's seen Aliens knows, the circumstances surrounding the aforementioned crash strain credulity. Weaver is fine again as Ripley and Charles S. Dutton is good as the inmate who becomes the closest thing she has to an ally. There are other factors, though, that just don't add up to a satisfying whole. Why did Ripley basically sleep with that doctor on a whim like that? Why did it take so long for the alien in Ripley to hatch while the one in that poor dog took basically no time at all? Why do basically all the residents of this colony (save Dutton's character) act as moronic as teenagers in a Friday the 13th film? Credit should be given for at least trying a different tactic, and it's nice that David Fincher was able to go on to better things like Se7en & Panic Room, but anyone expecting a complimentary companion piece to Alien & Aliens will be disappointed.

Very Weak Sequel Posted by: from: on 'Alien 3' really does nothing to impress its audience. Sigourney Weaver has her head shaved, and the whole plot of the film, which is hardcore convicted felons getting picked off by a deadly alien, just doesn't draw any sympathy from me. Widescreen, plenty of bonus material.

what went wrong Posted by: from: on this was a very different film then the first two films. ripley is now alone on a penal colony with her good friend the alien which has followed her again. if that is not bad enough ripley is carrying an alien inside of her. by this time the producers of the film were thinking along the lines of alien vs predator and weaver wanted nothing to do with that franchise so at the end of the film ripley makes the ultimate sacrifice. i managed to get my hands on the extended edition of this film and liked it better than this one but it seems this was the only one best buy had at this great price.

Not bad. Posted by: from: Miami Beach on It's no Alien or Aliens, but it's way better than everything else that came after it in the Alien series. Sigourney Weaver and the rest of the cast do a fine job with what's given and the tone of the film feels like a natural progression from what's come before. The set and characters designs as well as the look for the film are great. It's just too bleak at certain points, especially the ending. It feels like it goes to far for pure shock value at times. Getting rid of Hicks and Newt from Aliens also sucked. Overall though, I wasn't bored and hey, it was better than Alien: Resurrection.

Decent sci-fi space flick Posted by: from: on In my opinion, it's the least appealing of the alien films. But for a collector, it's a must to complete the series.

Good overlooked Alien sequel Posted by: from: on It would be hard for any movie to follow Aliens, so David Fincher's subtle, dark sequel is often overlooked. Bluray is great except for the big special effects moments because they are a little dated. That actually makes it fun though.

A beautiful presentation of a okay movie. Posted by: from: Shrewsbury, Ma on One of the weakest films of the "Alien" series. I kind of plodded along. It was too slowly paced. It was a disappointment of the series that almost tried to return to the originals menacing factor instead of the "Aliens" fast pace and action. It could have been so much better.
