A Different Film Experience Posted by: from: on A truly unique kind of film experience with only one character and little dialogue the film manages to remain compelling and interesting throughout. It is not for everyone but if you find the thought of a film lacking all kinds of needless talking your cup of tea then this is for you. Great for lovers of sailing also.

Bootleg Castaway Posted by: from: Houston, TX on Love Robert Redford. But this movie is a bootleg castaway. I was pretty bored watching this.

What a story! Posted by: from: Anchorage, Alaska on This is what great movie making is about; taking a simple story and idea, combining it with great acting, resulting in a captivating result. Despite it being Robert Redford, it took only minutes to 'forget' that it was him; the story was simple, not complex, but totally captivating from the start to end, which left you guessing right up to the last minute... This will be timeless; it needs no complex dialog, no special effects, no hot women, no stupid unbelievable plots or stunts...its a story that could touch any of us, and one that touches on experiences, feelings and emotions we should all recognize. It's a shame that such a film was passed over by this seasons awards, but I can see why Mr Redford chose to do this, and he gave a masterful performance, so much so, it did not appear as such.

Great suspenseful movie Posted by: from: worcester, ma on ALL IS LOST is a really good movie about an older man (Robert Redford) on a trip in his boat by himself in the middle of the ocean. Suddenly the boat is hit by a large shipping container and it punctures throughj the boat, causing a large hole. Redford needs to plug up the hole so his boat doesnt sink... and after that it's just one thing after another happening to this poor guy basically trapped in the middle of the ocean on a broken boat amidst bad storms and other perils. The movie keeps you watching and is highly enjoyable. Also, there are some great bonus features that show how a lot of the effects were achieved. A lot of water stunts went in to making this great film.

Wonderful film Posted by: from: Atlanta, GA on This was one of my favorite films of 2013. It is a true "motion picture" since there is hardly any dialogue and the story is conveyed solely through imagery and Redford's subtle, inspired performance. Because of the sparse dialogue, the sound design and music play a huge part in the emotional resonance of the story and both are handle with great expertise. The theme is one of survival and the limits that humans can push themselves to, and beyond. If you enjoy contemplative films, with beautiful imagery, you will most likely love this movie regardless of whether you are into sailing or not.

Great Showcase for Robert Redford Posted by: from: Spokane, WA on ALL IS LOST is a thrilling survival story starring Robert Redford. Alone in the middle of the ocean after his ship is damaged, the only way he can survive--and be rescued--is by keeping calm and smartly using his supplies on hand. This Blu-ray edition shows off the movie very well, and the extra features go into great detail about how the film was made. My only complaint is that only a BD disc was offered, instead of the BD/DVD combo that's standard nowadays.

quiet and powerful Posted by: from: Boise, ID on Since this movie has only one character it lacks dialouge. But, that is not a loss. Robert Redford is a master at portraying a character that just is. No, overdramatic acting here. His character is comfortable on the water, calm, collected, and smart about perserving what he can until, well, "everthing is lost". Even in the slow moments of the movie it is engaging because there are little details that add to the overall story and beauty of this movie.

Movie is Boring Posted by: from: Warren, Mich. on I would have gave it a Poor rating but I like movies with the Ocean storms in them such as the Perfect Storm. Robert Redford is getting too old and only says about 12 words in the whole movie. The movie starts with him in the Ocean, is all about him in the Ocean and ends with him in the Ocean. There is no one else in the movie. BORING !!!! No wonder it was not up for any awards. Save your money.
