KINDLE FIRE HD 8 STEP UP FROM PAPER WHITE Posted by: from: chicago on A few years ago, I bought a KINDLE PAPER WHITE as my "Xmas present to myself." I absolutely LOVE my Kindle White and take it everywhere. I used to carry 2-3 heavy books with me and the Paper White enabled me to carry 50 books. A few weeks ago, I decided to UPGRADE TO THE KINDLE FIRE HD 8. I wanted to be able to look for restaurants; directions; get email -- all the things a TABLET does in addition to READING E-BOOKS. I LOVE MY NEW KINDLE FIRE HD 8 EVEN MORE THAN THE PAPER WHITE. Everything about it is better: it's faster; memory is larger; it's easier to see, the screen is larger, the color is vivid and it's a GREAT TABLET. I bought a case including a little keyboard and can search for books; watch you-tube videos, send emails and more. Lots of people have more expensive tablets. But the KINDLE FIRE HD 8 does everything you need and is compact and easy to carry. If you've loved your PAPER WHITE, but you've had it for awhile, you might be ready to STEP UP TO THE KINDLE FIRE HD 8! You won't be sorry! Now, I keep my PAPER WHITE IN THE BATHROOM FOR IMPORTANT "PRIVATE" READING MOMENTS. Hah! MY NEW KINDLE FIRE HD 8 NOW GOES EVERYWHERE WITH ME!

Laggy when changing apps, Ads on lock screen. Posted by: from: on Lacking in RAM, loaded in bloatware. I had a first gen fire and it was a great little gadget. I find this device to be very laggy when changing apps. That may be the fault of the firmware, if I could remove it and put plain android on it I would. Even when closing all apps and just running one at a time it's still very slow. It does play videos well and when apps are open they are strong, But the wait to go between apps can be quite ridiculous. Pick up a memory card, you will need it. Presumably the best upgrade to the entire model line. External sd card support. It will let you install to the external drive, but keep in mind, it will only be splitting the load between the external drive and the internal drive. I'm not sure how the larger internal memory models handle, but I can't imagine it being much more of an improvement. Keep in mind as you select these large internal memory loaded fire devices the price creeps up quickly, before you know it you're borderline at the period of a galaxy tab or an iPad mini

Good tablet Posted by: from: on I was looking for a tablet to read magazine. So a readers doesn't quite suit my need since they don't display colors. This tablet is nice. It isn't heavy and battery life is all right. More than 6 hours, not sure the exact hours since I didn't count. And also I download magazine a lot, the internet usage might reduce battery life a bit. The screen is crisp. I can easily read full page text without zooming in. I don't listen to music using the tablet, so I can't comment on that. 8 inch screen isn't as nice as a 10 inch one for reading, but the relative less weight balance out the con. You can hold the tablet for a long time without killing your wrist. I bought the tablet at full price. But amazon fire tablet are on sale all the time, so if you are not in a hurry, wait a little. Bought it from Amazon since they put it on sale often. Best buy price match too if you want to support a brick and mortar store. You can root the tablet and instead custom Rom too. Remember not to update the tablet when you first turn on the machine. It will make rooting a lot easier. Ps: if you read magazine, I recommend texture app, which offer ton of magazine for a low price. Check them out if you are interested.

My First Tablet and I Love It Posted by: from: on I didn't really know if I was going to get a lot of use out of a tablet, but my wife has a Kindle fire 7" tablet and she really likes it a lot. So, I decide to get this Kindle fire HD 8" so I would have stereo sound and high definition capability. I must say, I was quite surprised with the high quality of the picture and the sound was actually more than I was expecting from such small speakers. Being an Amazon Prime member, there is a lot of "free" content avialable that is included with the membership. This was the main reason for going with the Kindle tablets. Also, I'm already on my 5th kindle book since buying this and I really like the "Blue Shade" feature that takes the blue light out of the screen if you like to read in bed. (Supposedly, blue light can affect your ability to get to sleep.) This may true, but I think its a little easier on the eyes also. My concern about not using this table much has turned out to be false. If your thinking about a "first" tablet, I love this one and the price wasn't that bad either. Enjoy!

Easy Way to Buy Books Posted by: from: on My husband bought this item as a gift for me before I went into the hospital for major surgery. He knows how much I love to read and thought it would be easier than toting a bunch of books to the hospital. I truly appreciated that he bought this for me and have loved the convenience of easily buying books and downloading them to this reader. The downside is that it loses power quite quickly and must be recharged more often than I would like. The other problem with it that it cost nearly $150, yet I have to put up with commercial ads every time I power it up for things that I would never in my life buy or want. It is annoying and I don't for the life of me understand why I have to put up with that when the product was purchased...not FREE!

Love the size. Posted by: from: on Love this size Kindle. Disappointed that I am not able to get the Kindle App for 3M Books through the library. I guess there isn't one for HD. Also the power cord could be a bit longer.

Very happy I stepped up to the modern world. Posted by: from: on I had never used a tablet or a Smart phone so this was a big step for me.I had a long trip coming up so I decided to try a tablet. This was a moderately priced one. I could down load games (with help). My local librarian showed me how to download books. I could connect to the internet in airports and hotels. I could easily take photos and video. All in all having it was a big plus. I just wish the sales gal had gone over more features with me at the store.

Amazon Fire HD8 Posted by: from: Gulf Breeze, FL on I purchased Amazon Fire HD8 after my original Amazon Fire (7 inch) would no longer run some applications that I had been using. My new Amazon Fire HD8 has an improved screen and I appreciate the larger size. I find the rotating screens ( e.g. books, apps, music, newsstand, etc.) somewhat confusing, never quit certain of my location. However, the pages flip quickly and smoothly. The screen is bright and exceptionally clear. I think 8 gigs of storage on the base model is very puny. I have less than 3.5 gigs remaining and I have not downloaded any movies, just a few books and apps. 16 gigs would be good and 32 even better. I have added a 32 gig SD card. All the Best Buy stores in my area, Jacksonville, FL, had only the 8 gig model available. I am a "hands on" purchaser; I prefer physically examining my purchase prior to spending my money.

Updated from a 2013 Nook Color to Fire Posted by: from: Spartanburg SC on The Kindle Fire was a major step up from my Nook Color which I had enjoyed using for a few years but when it came time for an upgrade the Fire was a clear choice. I did on-line research and then went to Best Buy to make the purchase a few days after Christmas. Got one of the last two in stock. The Fire is very user friendly and I was able to easily download apps for my favorite games and it only took a few minutes to set up my three e-mail accounts and and group my apps on the Home screen. Silk Browser provides easy access to the internet and I often use the Fire to check daily news and sports updates. I'm not a movie person but the ESPN Watch loaded up easily and I am able to enjoy sports on the go. I would think that Netflix would be as easy to add. In my opinion the $150 price was a real bargain. And by the way, I even occasionally read books on it.

Simple, Smooth, Super Posted by: from: on My wife loved her previous Kindle Fire (first gen), and now she really loves her new Kindle Fire...I love the price. For what you get, I'll take this over an Apple any day! I have an older iPad (I won it from work) and I rarely use it, she didn't like it, so my kids beat it up now. My wife takes this everywhere. It goes on camping trips, the beach, car rides, picnics, soccer practices, etc. She reads a lot, checks email, and does some social media garbage - and this does it all flawlessly. I played with it a little and there is noticeable difference in the processor as well as the OS they use now. Expandable memory is a super plus, too. If you want a tablet to take great pics and have great sound quality, get a better cell phone. Honestly, don't be that person holding a giant tablet trying to take pics... Overall, if you just want a good tablet to carry with you don't waste your money on Apple (ever), this will last longer and do more of the basics.
