like a 4x4 with almost bald tires Posted by: from: on I'm super pleased with this for the price, comes with a 2 year worry free warranty, a foam case and is fully loaded with tons of Amazon content for kids and the ability to add some classroom endorsed learning apps that I already adored. The price made it a super good deal, the screen is gorgeous and the battery life is good, all things considered. My only criticism is speed. In a high speed world, almost no amount of lag is acceptable. This thing takes a while to download even the preloaded content and often needs to be power cycled before it'll open apps we loaded after purchase. For the price, I like it but it feels like it should be able to process faster. For me it's a no, for my elementary school child, it's a yes.

Excellent features tailored for children by age! Posted by: from: on We bought the Kindle Fire for it's ability to tailor it's programs to our 7 year olds age group. It is also storage expandable to 128GB with a microSD card. We have Amazon Prime and it made sense to get a tablet that would allow my child access to the vast amount of offerings from Amazon Prime. You can also manage your child's time on the device, make certain learning programs primary so they can't do anything unless those are completed first. There are also other Parental features that makes it a worthwhile choice. It has a nice clear, bright screen and a headphone jack for your child to watch or play without bothering others around them. I like this tablet and use it myself when my son doesn't have it, which isn't much and I like the features and abilities it offers. I would recommend this product to any parent or anyone who likes a good bargain. It is worth the money and has been great for our child.

Kids Love It Posted by: from: on I really like the FreeTime app. It's restricts the kids from browsing the web and only allowing them to play with pre-selected books/apps/videos. It has enough parental controls to let the parents choose additional content to that the kids are allowed to use. For instance, Candy Crush is not a game for kids by default in FreeTime, so I downloaded it with the parent's account, added it as an additional app for the kids to use in FreeTime and then the kids can install it on their account. While that's nice, it isn't without quirks. I assumed that once the parents loads an app and makes it available to the child, the child's account just loads the game from the local storage, it seems that the kids account downloads and installs a separate copy. So be ready to pick up a microSD card to allow more content. Several of the children's books have very small print and it's not easy to enlarge the print. Finally, the battery life seems a little short. None of these quirks will prevent me from picking up another one down the road.

Nabi dream tab was better Posted by: from: on Got this for my son after using geek squad warranty due to Nabi dream tab breaking a screen after never having the first problem with it best buy wasn't carrying any more so went with fire for kids. Games on free play are decent but most are set up as books and my son loves games. The internal memory is the worst and the tap on free time games and they down load no description of game or any thing, we've got 10 games and memory is maxed. Dream tab we had tons of games and storage still abundunt. Amazon app store is horrible and pricy compared to Google play. The charger cord is ridiculously short and charge time is horrible could get several hours out of Nabi depending but fire drains quick and averages hour and half usually not good for long road trips. The parent interface sucks compared to Nabi when I power up its on adult profile vs kids it should start on child's profile so password doesn't have to be entered every time. In short I don't really recommend this tab unless your good with a very little storage very little charge and limited games to play.

Amazon ALMOST got it right! Posted by: from: Clarksville, TN on Great idea for kids, but limited flexibility. The included apps take up ALL of the built-in memory, and with the Free Time app, it can be difficult to actually remove them, as the entire list is available even if the app is uninstalled. When the child taps the icon to see what the app is about, it is automatically downloaded and installed. And only apps with an approved tag of "educational" are able to be used on the Free Time app. This precludes apps like Pandora, Amazon Music, and Audible. Yes, even AMAZON APPS are unable to be used on this AMAZON tablet! Tech support assures me that they are working on getting it changed. Even with all of this, this is a good tablet, and the replacement warranty alone makes it worth the price!

Awesome!! Very impressed!! Posted by: from: on We bought the Fire Kids Edition for our 4 year old son. He has always shown interest in electronics, wanted to play on our cell phones, etc. This has been a huge hit with him!! We enjoy the peace of knowing what he is able to access is safe, age appropriate and numerous learning apps are available as well as fun games and videos. The durability of it is great as well, he's not aware of being careful quite yet and it has held up well!! It's very easy to set up, can be easily switched between profiles and holds its charge for long term usage! I would definitely recommend this product!! No buyers remorse with this purchase, would buy again without a doubt!!

Good for the kids Posted by: from: on The only difference between this and the Fire tablet is the inclusion of the colored foam case and 1 year Freetime. I bought an additional glass screen protector which fit without issue and added a 32 gig memory. The kids menu for Amazon Freetime works well except you need internet connection to watch videos, you can't download them ahead of time. You have to use the parent's side to download and watch stuff from Amazon Prime. It is a tad slow like my Samsung Galaxy tab 7, not as quick as my iPad mini, but for the kids, it is fine. My only other gripe is that I see all the kids accounts that is attached to the one adult (Prime) account on both Kindles that I bought. This allows my son to grab his sisters kindle and download a bunch of HIS games on her Kindle.

Awesome Tablet Posted by: from: on I was very skeptical about getting the Amazon tablet because I heard one bad review from my sister. I decided to take a chance on it for my kids since they broke their Nabis and bestbuy discontinued them. This tablet is awesome.. Theres so much for a kid to do on it. they will never get bored . The only thing i didnt like was the memory fills up fast without an SD card which Ive order a 32 gb sandisk for 11 bucks which is specifically for amazon tablets. And when the memory runs low they cant get on line. I have fun playing with it when my kids are sleep. Its waaaaaaaay better than the nabi and lighter. Plus the bumpers are like an inch thick and theres no way for my rough son to crack this one and so what if he does cause it has a 2 year warrant. plus they can go on the web and only go to sites you approve and u can put apps they like from google play and amazon (like ie Netflix or my talking Angela) on their account. My daughter says she likes this better than her nabi. Plus they have books that will read to them. You can put settings on the tablet to where they have to do a certain amount of reading time before the can do anything else on it.
