The inequalities inherent in the legal system are explored in this A&E program, American Justice: A Parent's Nightmare. Host Bill Kurtis unveils one of the most glaring examples of a trial gone bad. In 1998, David and Cynthia Dowaliby reported their seven-year-old daughter missing. Her body turned up five days later, but police suspected the culprit was closer than anyone knew. The Dowalibys were subsequently arrested for the murder of their child. Controversy came into play when Cynthia was released citing insufficient evidence. But, her husband is kept behind bars. This episode brings up issues of sexism and faulty court procedures as a roadblock to justice. David was later released on appeal, but the question remains. Was he guilty, or was his case a modern day witch hunt? ~ Sarah Ing, Rovi
