His apprehension for money laundering was an exercise in entrapment and his defense proved it easily in court. Perhaps the biggest snare project in recent history was the ABSCAM probe in 1978. Five politicians were convicted of accepting bribes from foreign interests. The defense cried it was a setup because the idea and the money came from the government.
