American Justice: The Sting
Law enforcement walks a thin line in the A&E program American Justice: The Sting. The most famous case of an undercover operation working out is the drug arrest of Washington mayor Marion Barry. His was such an obvious crime with a videotape to prove it. At the time, police were lauded for a tough investigation. However, agents haven't always had an easy time catching the criminal. The case of automaker John Delorean forever haunts the DEA. His apprehension for money laundering was an exercise in entrapment and his defense proved it easily in court. Perhaps the biggest snare project in recent history was the ABSCAM probe in 1978. Five politicians were convicted of accepting bribes from foreign interests. The defense cried it was a setup because the idea and the money came from the government. A&E questions when undercover goes too far in this one-hour special. ~ Sarah Ing, Rovi
