An interesting and unique film. Posted by: from: Bothell, WA on Lars von Trier's best film to date. It's not for everyone though. The anticipation is disturbing as well as the graphic nature of certain scenes. However, I found those scenes to be necessary and the film as a whole well done. As far as recommendations go, I would strongly suggest those interested in seeing it for the first time to rent it before making the purchase. This of course goes back to my "It's not for everyone" comment. In terms of picture and audio quality, Criterion has provided us a fantastic release worthy of ownership.

Horror Hits the Family and Hard Posted by: from: on No matter what you hear or know about it, nothing can truly prepare you for Lars von Trier's horror opus "Antichrist". Written in the midst of von Trier's infamous crippling depression, "Antichrist", similar to "Don't Look Now" (another surreal horror film released by Criterion), focuses on a married couple dealing with a traumatic death and the inevitable intensity and violence that seems intertwined with their relationship couple with observations of gynocide in history. Relentlessly brutal both emotionally and visually from start to end, "Antichrist" works as a horror film and as a haunting psychological study about the uncertainty of parenthood. It also begins an incredibly collaboration with leading lady Charlotte Gainsbourg, who's simultaneously sympathetic and monstrous. Criterion's team once again delivers a set with incredible picture and sound quality for the film and a bountiful collection of piercing bonus features that really gives the audience insight into the process. Highly recommended.
