Stay far FAR away

Wow, these things are just terrible. Have exchanged twice already and every time they just randomly switch into some sort of fail mode after a day or two without ever going to battery backup at all. And this is with only a mere 80W load! These are designed for 360W. They are stuck in this fail mode for a few hours. Something is terribly wrong with these and until APC figures it out and addresses and fixes the problems, I would advise all potential buyers to avoid it.

Cannot sustain rated load.

I purchased two units, one is working fine with a load of about 85-100 watts. However, the other one was working on a load of 180 watts, and it went into some kind of protection mode and shut down. I reset it by removing the battery, and tried again. A couple of days later, same thing. Tried it a last time, and boom, same thing. Tried it on a different computer, lower load, and boom, shut down. I replaced that UPS with an identical one from Best buy, and sure enough, within a few days, that started shutting down the same way. This leads me to believe its a design flaw. The unit does feel fairly light compared to similarly rated UPS's.

Did not do it's job

Bought this for my NAS, Router, and Modem. Happened to have two power outages and one surge two days after purchasing. Backup failed on each event. These components should have not lost power for at least 5 minutes. I returned and replaced it with the larger one with the display. I will not buy a UPS without a display again.

Bought 3 to replace an APC unit that failed just after the warranty period. Two of the new units went into shutdown for no reason and failed to restart. Am bringing the units back. Will not buy APC again.
Too bad the review does not rate 0 as that is what I would rate the product.

My computer constantly claims that it cannot communicate with the battery backup, despite it being plugged in. The backup shuts down the computer.

Confidence lost in APC products
Posted by: wakajazz from: on
I have owned many APC products over the years. This UPS however is being returned. Three times now the unit has 'crashed', resulting in a continuous tone and loss of power to the so called protected devices. Unplugging the UPS and holding down the power button is the only way to revive it.

Used it 1 Time

I bought this to help with power outages. The day before yesterday we lost power. The unit worked as advertised. Tonight, not so lucky. Apparently for some reason it didn't recharge after being used.
I guess this is a one and done piece of equipment.

We bought this backup just to run the screen and computer so if we have a power failure in the middle of a project we will have time to save whatever we were working on and shut the computer down. Prior to the purchase of this product we had lost a few projects due to power loss, not anymore! Great product!

I bought two of these units after disappointment with a different brand. These units function as expected and fit into a crowded space on the floor behind my desk. Interestingly, I have found it cheaper to replace whole battery back up units rather than purchase replacement batteries. I have many of these in my home and office. I suspect I will be buying more in the future. I expect to stay with this brand as I have been disappointed with other brands. They are the "Best Buy."

I have a lot of electronic gadgets at home and I like to use a battery back-up UPS for my computers, set-top boxes, and gaming systems because it would be disastrous if a power outage occurred during a system update. And if a power outage occurred while working on my computer, I have time to save off my work and shut it down until power returns to normal. I've had really good luck with APC UPS in the past and this one seems as good as the old model it replaces. I really like the new form factor. It's thinner so it can fit in more places on the floor and there are more wide spaced outlets that are battery backed up than on the older models. Time will tell if it will last as long as the one it replaces but so far so good!
