This item is available in store currently in Best Buy stores I picked one up last weekend (Oct 1 2012). The item is exactly the same as the one in your iPhone 5 box, but now you have TWO.

Don't expect this cord to last!
Posted by: TechGirl4 from: on
I bought the new iPad Mini on the release date and the charging cord works like all the other apple cords. They provide a quick charge but then all the cords connection will get weak within a few months. (I've had this cord for 4 months. I take very good care of my cords). As I'm typing this review, my fingers are supporting the connector so my iPad can charge. As soon as I let go, my iPad will no longer be charging. (I only charge to an wall outlet.). I also get the message that "this accessory is not supported by this device"---This cord came with the device! I have had these same issues with my iPhone & my iPod. The cords eventually broke open with gentle use of charging once daily. So, I have switched my other apple devices to Belkin cords and I haven't had any problems. So today, I will be going to Best Buy to purchase a lightening cable cord from another brand than apple. I love apple products but their charging cords are not made well.

Love the fact that these truly are "Lightning" cables as they charge my phone and iPad a ton faster than the old 30-pin adapter cables that Apple used. That said, it kills me that they are so expensive. In the 30-pin ecosystem, I had about a dozen cables that I left everywhere so that I could charge whenever I needed to. In the Lightning cable ecosystem, I only have a few cables because they are so expensive. What a bummer.

Tried a few off brand charging cables from a competitor, and ended up with some duds or poorly constructed charging cables. Went OEM, and everything works as it should. Only real drawback is the price, as it is expensive. You do you get what you pay for.

Buyers beware of Non Apple Cables
Posted by: Joeyangel510 from: on
Hello, I purchased these 6'-6" registered Apple Trademark cables and I am very pleased with them, the reason for the longer length is for my couch, the cable goes from the outlet under the couch to the front for convenience to charge all my apple products (except laptops) I have the iPad charger hooked up to the 6'-6" cable and it quickly charges my iPhone and families iPhones too. I just want buyers beware of the inexpensive online and cheap in mall fakes I know people buy the fake non trademark Apple cables to save money but after time they fail so spend a extra $20.00 and get well made cables. They also hold up to my grandson pulling the connector from the wire part of the cable. Oh if your in the market definitely get the longer cable. NOTE: I bought one more 6'-6" cable for my bedroom night stand that actually is long enough to use while laying down watching TV and texting too.
Thank you for reading

It's a cord.

Why on earth doesn't Best Buy show how LONG this cord is? I mean, really? What other specifications could there be? I haven't bought one yet so I'm still using the one that came with my iPhone 5 and it's nice that the plug fits into the iPhone in either of the two possible orientations. Much nicer than the old 30 pin adapter that only fit one way. That said, what is wrong with us lemmings willing to fork over 20 clams for a simple cable? For $17 I can buy a 16Gb USB 2.0 Memory stick shaped like Peter from Family Guy. With around 128 billion transistors and the Peter's cool pudgy outline, I'm guessing a little more work went into getting the silicon out of the fab clean rooms, assembled, tested, and shipped to us (including royalties paid to the good people at Fox). And yet, a simple cord for an Apple product costs MORE!!! And we still don't know how long the thing is!! That would be too much info.. just buy the thing and be happy!! Rant over.

Apple Lightning to USB Cable (2m)
Posted by: TylerB_BBYStaff05 from: Minneapolis on
This 2-meter USB 2.0 cable connects your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with Lightning connector to your computer's USB port for syncing and charging or to the Apple USB Power Adapter for convenient charging from a wall outlet.
