I have all Mac products, mostly because I enjoy the seamless transition of having all my information available in any device I'm currently using. Also I find them simple, user friendly, and also easy to learn just from daily use. I didn't know anything about Apple TV went I went into the store. I didn't know the difference between the available versions either. The store associate was very helpful in telling me I could use this product, and didn't need the option of storage on the newer products because I have all Mac products so I could stream through Air Play versus keeping music and such stored on the device. It is just like every other Mac product. Extremely effective with one of the most simple remotes possible. I highly recommend this product to other Mac users, and anyone who wants a stress-free technological experience.

I love my apple tv!
Posted by: reviewingmom from: on
We went into best buy looking for an alternative way of watching tv. We are never home, as we work, and we pay an insane amount of money for satellite tv and shows so we were looking to cancel our subscription and get some kind of streaming device. We chose the apple tv because of the price point, its apple, and simple enough to use. They had the more expensive version but after reading reviews, everyone said this older version was much better for the price. We plugged it in and linked it to our accounts on netflix, apple, and directtv and right away were were able to watch shows. Some things require extra sign ins or subscriptions but what we want it for it works well. My kids have all of their digital movies loaded on there and I get to still watch some FX, A&E, lifetime, and other shows.

Apple does it again...it just works
Posted by: Nick19 from: Naples,Fl on
I would highly reccomend this product as part of your apple portfolio. It integrates seamlessly with all of my other apple devices...PC...IPad. It takes less than 5 mins to set up with a wireless network. The remote that comes with the device is sleek and small...however, the app for the IPad (IPad remote) is even better and not dependent on IR range. If plays 1080P flawlessly and if you like to stream music (from your own ITunes library) or from one of the many Internet stations it does this just as well. The screen saver also allows you to view your own pictures via your IPhoto library as you listen to a music source. Great product.... Don't hesitate.

New competitions are not easy ones

XBMC is becoming a popular platform and there is plenty of set-tops that comes with XBMC or with capability of installing that. Unfortunately proprietary method of application distribution through App Store, doesn't let you do what you want to do on your Apple, meaning that your friend would buy a cheaper device with more functionality than your 100 dollar apple TV!
The only way to catch up is jail-breaking apple TV, which is legal but not approved by Apple and the catch is, there is no jail-break for 3rd generation of Apple TV yet, and because of that, used version of Apple TV 1 and 2 is being traded way over original brand new price in the market.
A great feature for Apple lovers, is that they can wirelessly send their Mac, iPad, or iPhone screen to a TV, and good news for people who have mixture of Android and Apple devices, is that there are some Android apps out there that allows streaming from Android to your Tv through Apple TV.

Nothing new, it is an Apple TV
Posted by: Norbert from: on
I been using Apple TV since the first generations came out. What I can say is that the 3rd generation is doing for me all I need. I did not want to spend the extra $$$ to get the 4th generation because is was 'too much'. It is a great piece of technology and works excellent with all the Apple devices around the house. I use the Remote app on my iPhone to improve the experience.

Good upgrade from 2nd Generation Apple TV
Posted by: Jacobs from: CA on
I have been using Apple TV 2 for nearly 1 year and upgraded to 3rd Generation on the launch day. I am overall happy with the upgrade. Video quality has been improved compared to previous generation device.
I do not use Apple TV to stream contents from iTunes. I use this device mainly for Airplay from my other Apple devices / computer. Also I watch Netflix and Youtube for streaming contents. Netflix quality has been improved compared to Apple TV 2.
I love Apple products and recommend its products to my friends and family. But I am not fully convinced with Apple TV. 2 years ago Apple brought us Apple TV 2 with "720p" resolution when the world has already standardized to 1080p and 1080p 3D. I could not figure out why Apple was stuck at 720p that time. May be because Apple TV is just a "hobby" for them.
Finally in 2012 Apple brought us 1080p capable Apple TV, hurray! Well, my only concern with Apple TV 3 is that despite the fact that it has 1080p streaming capability, I am not seeing a Full Screen image when I Mirror my retina enabled Apple devices such as iPhone 4 and "the new iPad". I am still seeing a 4:3 ratio output with rest of blacked out screen in Landscape mode. Forget about portrait mode!
Though, I said what I didn't like on my new Apple TV, but it doesn't mean that I will not recommend Apple TV, it is a great product otherwise and I will always recommend Apple TV especially for those who use other Apple products. It is a must to have accessory for those use iPhone and iPad.

Perfect if you already have apple devices
Posted by: OhioBuyer73 from: Akron, OH on
I am not a fan of the apple (Collective), but my wife has an IPad and IPhone. I purchased Apple TV for her for Christmas and was pleasantly surprised by its ease of use and installation. Also, it was remarkably ease to connect her I devices. We were using netflix through our DVD player, and it was miserably slow. Apple tv was exceptionally fast with netflix and other channels offered through the device. If you already have an IPhone, IPad, or newer IPod, I would highly recommend this device. However, if you are an android user like me, I would recommend something different. The apple TV is only convenient and easy to use with other apple devices.

Great video experience
Posted by: jrcaporal from: on
Apple TV delivers the most polished video experience today, with speedy reactions and a familiar yet attractive interface. It has the best remote on the market. Siri voice search is excellent, and useful voice commands add unique capabilities. The selection of apps is excellent, and AirPlay can be used for unsupported apps

Great streaming device
Posted by: Scooter from: on
I had bought the 3rd gen Apple TV for my home theater. I already have a 4th gen in my living room where we watch the most TV. The 3rd gen works nearly as well as the newer model but lacks the Siri Remote and App Store. ( this wasn't a deal breaker since I primarily use the home theater for movies). I get 1080p resolution and Dolby digital audio out of the ATV3 which looks and sounds Great!

Fantastic Little Box
Posted by: JosephRulerOfTech from: Minnesota on
Apple has always made me wonder how they did it with making fun things so small and easy to use. They haven't disappointed me yet, and I am very happy to have this product. Airplay is probably my favorite feature. I tend to stream a lot and getting rid of a iPod to TV cable was a nice thing since I have a ton of cables running around to my electronics. I love the compact design of the case. Very simple design, but packed with a good bunch of features that makes my home theater quite entertaining.
Overall, It's excellent for streaming, Looks very nice on my stand, emits very little heat, and is packed with fantastic features that I am sure you'll love.
