Apple - iPad® Pro Smart Keyboard - Gray

Smart Keyboard available at Best Buy

The new Smart Keyboard for iPad Pro has all the utility of an ordinary full-size keyboard, but its technology is far from conventional. The entire keyboard is draped with a custom-woven fabric that has been laser ablated to precisely define each key and ensure a satisfyingly fast and natural key feel. Below the surface of Smart Keyboard is a new conductive material. At just 0.1mm, it is nearly as thin as a piece of paper, yet strong enough to withstand a lifetime of folding. And it's why you won't find any batteries, cord or on/off switches with Smart Keyboard.

Best Keyboard Design Posted by: from: Daytona Beach, Fl on I read a lot of mixed reviews and watched a lot of videos and was afraid to buy the keyboard but like the fact that it was thin and added very little weight to the device as compared to the alternatives. So I took the leap of faith and ordered the keyboard once it was finally in stock on the Best Buy website. I must say I am extremely impressed and can't understand what all the negative reviews were complaining about. I find that I type at the same speed as I do on a regular computer keyboard and the response its just enough to confirm that I pressed the key. I also found that with extensive typing my hands did not get tired. The keyboard not having a backlight is not a concern unless you type in a pitch dark room. The screen on the keyboard illuminates the keyboard enough to compensate for it not having a backlight in the keyboard itself. I have typed while watching a moving and on an airplane at night without turning on the overhead light. I just did not have an issue with seeing the keys. Then again I am a person thats able to type fast without even looking at the keyboard so take that for what its worth. The keyboard just simply works and I am glad I bought it over the heavier alternative which took away from the slim profile of the iPad Pro!

Must Have Accessory Posted by: from: on My only gripe with the keyboard is that it would be wonderful to have the addition of backlighting. Otherwise, I became pretty adept at typing on it within about 10 minutes, and it does not seem to have much of a negative affect on the iPad's battery life. I am happy to report that I also have not had any issues with it damaging the screen of the iPad when it is folded up, which I have heard is a major problem with some of the other 3rd party solutions out there.

Not worth the money Posted by: from: Franklin, PA on I must agree with other reviewers the quality and functionality of this keyboard does not align with the price of the keyboard. To put it in context: The Apple TV is less expensive than this keyboard and there is a lot more technology in the Apple TV. Apple is taking advantage of loyal customers and I for one am not too happy about that. Now for the review: Pro's: 1) Connects easily - the magnets are very strong 2) Nice full keys with decent tactile feedback (not as much as a regular keyboard but good enough) Con's: 1) Price - See intro 2) Keys are loud when typing fast and I am not hammering on them. 3) No backlight - for this price it should have been included 4) No option to use in portrait mode - some apps, including ones from Apple don't support landscape and then you have to type on the screen. The reason I have a keyboard is so I don't have to. 5) The material just feel cheap - I know a lot of manufacturers uses something similar, but this really just feels cheap.

Great Addition. Posted by: from: on I purchased an open box version of the Apple Smart Keyboard. The price reduction alone was enough for me to purchase this keyboard over the Logitech. when it comes to the iPad Pro, i'm looking to minimize it's size and weight while allowing it to do the simple tasks my macbook can do. What I'm not trying to do is replicate it's look and feel of my macbook (if that makes sense). for me the things I appreciate most about this keyboard are it's feel and thinness. Typing on the keyboard feels great. It does have this nylon-y feel but it has great feedback when you press the keys. Also, i love how this keyboard doubles as a smart cover. If you can find an open-box version, pull the trigger. If there are only brand new versions available, i believe i would still choose this over the logitech b/c I don't like the added bulk and weight the logitech brings even though the lit-keys are a nice touch.

Great! Posted by: from: on I'm disappointed that Apple didn't add backlit keys but that of course would increase the thickness. Besides, the screen lights up the keys enough to see by. I thought the key travel would be too shallow like they are on the MacBook but they're actually "clicky" & feel very good. I'm able to type very easily with the keyboard. I tried the Logitech & loved the keyboard but hated the weight & thickness of the cover. Really glad I tried Apple's as I love it. It's also sturdy enough to put on my lap & has a viewing angle for just watching videos, etc. Nice microfiber cloth on the part that covers the screen.

Great keyboard for IPad Pro Posted by: from: on I originally had the Logitech create keyboard before I was able to get my hands on the smart keyboard. The smart keyboard can be frustrating to type on at first but it becomes very easy and I actually like it. The biggest reason I bought it is because it is light an compact. It comes off the iPad easily or wraps around back when you do not want to use it anymore. My biggest cons and reason for not giving it 5 stars is that it is not backlit. I type in dark rooms a lot and it makes it very difficult to type. Other then that and the price it is a great keyboard.

Not perfect but.... Posted by: from: on Better than Logitech, which put a forever dent on my $1,000 + iPad Pro screen. I think they should be responsible for replacing it, but I'm not gonna waste my time trying. Lacks the light up keyboard, but other than's lighter, slimmer and easier to carry around. The dark gray gets smudges on it, but it fits well on the iPad Pro. Logitech case was cracking after one month. My only issues are the price to buy the cover and the keyboard $200+, and the fact that the keyboard doesn't light up. Apple needs to come out with some better colors (that don't get dirty so easily) and a one piece case and keyboard.

Lightweight and convenient Posted by: from: on I find using my iPad Pro and its Smart Keyboard much faster and more efficient than using my laptop to check emails and surf the web. The keys are full-size and I am able to type at almost the same speed as I do my standard laptop. The only caveat and that I need a flat surface bc I type over 120 wpm otherwise, a soft surface is too wobbly.

Not the greatest Apple product ever but works well Posted by: from: on After buying an iPad Pro 12", I knew I needed a cover and a keyboard. Initially I went with a Logitech Folio cover/keyboard because I had used one with all my previous iPads. Instantly I disliked the Logitech version for the iPad Pro because it made something so light & elegant into a brick. Too heavy and too bulky. So, I returned it. Got an Apple Smart Keyboard despite some of the negative reviews, and have been very happy with it since. Yes, it's not the best product Apple has ever made. No, it's not inexpensive like Logitech and other companies products are, but it's slim and it works. It even has some keystroke features that Logitech had built in. So, all in all, I'm happy with the decision. If Apple made more colors and made it a little less cumbersome to open and close, I'd give it a 5 star rating.

Smart Cover with keyboard Posted by: from: on The cover is essentially a smart cover with a keyboard. It is not a bulky cover and still keeps the iPad form factor slim. The keyboard is not backlit and it also not bad to type on. Typing on it actually has a good feel and response to it. The space bar seems to be the only key that lacks that "click", but that may be my cover only. With the cover on, u can place the iPad on your lap and type away.
