Best for the Buck! Posted by: from: on I can't believe all the whining about how old this is! It comes with the latest software, the OS is El Capitan, it has the 2.5ghz dual core processor with the 2.0 turbo boost it get up to 3.1ghz in speed, if this is to old for you get the latest one with 2.7ghz speed for double what this costs. I installed 16 gigs 55$ and a SSD HD 43$ Traded in my 13.3 white macbook made in 2008 and got 128$ and walked out paying 971$. It takes 52 seconds to boot to the desktop and with the SSD HD it boots in 14 seconds. There is only 4 Mac Pros that have 16 gigs and the cheapest one is 1600$. I like this one because I want the CD/DVD player, its the only one they sale with it. If you trust all your documents stored online then more power to ya! Those crying about how screwed up this MBP is; it is because they just converted over from PC, hey when anything is new to you it's going to be a little difficult, I hated Apple as well until I learned the OS, I was a windows fan for 30yrs before windows had windows. I went to Linux OS which helps you learn Apple because they are pretty similar. Don't blame it on the MacBook, it does everything you tell it to and it even tells you when your wrong just don't take offense to it.

MacPro Horrible- but Best Buy was GREAT Posted by: from: on So I finally bit the bullet and bought a new Macbook Pro last year. It was open box, but Geek Squad certified. I was elated when operating this machine for literally 13 months. Crisp screen, great browing repsonse, intuitive controls - just operated flawlessly..... UNTIL IT DIDNT. After the latest EL Capitan update installed, the HARD DRIVE FAILED. Apple wanted to charge me 320.00 to have a new one installed. I decided to get another one and do it myself..... and Best Buy helped me out tremendously. I ended up doing an upgrade of the hard drive and the ram while I had the case cracked open. A special shout out to Brian, " glasses Dave " and Manager on duty Mark G, who went above and beyond to make this right, and to make me feel like a valued customer. This started out as a nightmare with apple, but now my machine is running better than ever thanks to the great staff at Best Buy Saratoga !

Not worth it! Posted by: from: on I got this laptop brand new and had a problem the first day. The laptop came with a broken battery so it would only work plugged in. So I returned it the next day and got a new one with ease. After about a couple of months with my laptop I noticed that the screen was flickering. Then after that the screen went completely out. It was just a bunch of colored lines on the screen. So I brought it in and they said it was fine and too bring it back if things got worse. So about a couple of months after that, the computer seemed to get slower and slower, and sometimes it wouldn't let me in, it would just black out so I would have to shut it down and turn it back on many times. then after a couple of weeks of this, it finally crashed and wouldn't boot up. So I brought it back in and they told me I had a bad hard drive and that I needed to replace it. I lost all my pictures and everything I had backed up from my phone. Its not worth fixing it for $500 just for it to crash again. This computer is not worth the price and has some manufacturing issues. It was okay when it worked but the majority of the time it didn't.

Workhorse of a laptop Posted by: from: on I have been a Mac user for many years, and have watched the evolution of their laptop products. This iteration of the MacBook pro is simply a workhorse. While there are more expensive versions of the MacBook that you can buy (retina display, etc..) this one is the best bang for the buck, in my opinion. The case is extremely well designed (I had dropped a previous one from 12 feet up onto a concrete surface, and while the case and screen were destroyed, the machine still operated!!) The standard screen display is more than adequate for 95% of users, so the extra $$ the retina display is unnecessary. Two recommended upgrades to improve your computing experience: 1.) Increase your local RAM to at least 8 GB. This will allow you to have more applications open at one time, and they will respond much more quickly, and 2) convert your standard hard drive to a solid state (flash) drive. Both of these improvements are easy to do and relatively inexpensive, and will make your experience with this laptop 100x better.

Great machine Posted by: from: on It's a Mac, what's not to like? If you're reading this you already know what a Mac can do. I recommend this and STRONGLY suggest that you do 2 things. 1. Upgrade the ram to 8gb, something you can do yourself for $50 easily. Really. 2. After using this for a few months, and if it feels like it's slowing, replace the HDD with an SSD, 500gb for $110, again something you can do, with an external drive to back up your files. That is a major speed increase, and you didn't have to spend hundreds more. What I really like about this laptop is the compact footprint. It is just the right size for sitting close to you. Also, the touchpad is so comfortable. It doesn't move the mouse wildly at all. Having a built in DVD burner is very convenient too!

DO NOT PURCHASE! 4 Year Old Computer Posted by: from: on Do not purchase this model!!! It's a slow "Mid 2012" model. They don't make this known on the website. They expect you to go digging to determine that Model: MD101LL/A was made 4 years ago. Apple markets and sells their computers by name and specs -- not model numbers. Even the rep at the local store said she wonders why Apple & BB continue to sell this computer. Car dealerships don't sell you a 2012 model in 2016. Why is Apple & BB still selling 4 year old computers? Maybe because they overproduced? At the very least, sell them for closeout prices, not $1100. For some reason, Apple and BB are continuing to sell it as NEW. It may be new, but it's a 4 year old computer that's incredibly slow. My iPhone 6 is faster than this thing. On top of it, we purchased BB's Black Friday deal with an open box model with the notion that it was a floor model. Turns out it's refurbished -- an overpriced refurbished computer. We've been using it for one week and the battery already needs to be charged after 2-3 hours of use. Unfortunately, BB won't do anything about it because their "hands are tied" by Apple. They sent me to Apple to deal with it. This is after 4 times on the phone and once in the store.

My first review EVER! Posted by: from: on So you can see this is my first review ever and you're probably thinking "well this AIRSHIP person is just going to say whatever, he just wants those Best Buy points" and I'm not going to lie, that is why I'm here. Honestly I wouldn't normally be reviewing something I've bought but regardless of the points I am throughly impressed with this product. Let's just start out by saying this laptop genuinely surprised me. I've owned the Apple MacBook Pro for about 2 months now and I was always told how convenient Apple computers were but I never expected to be so captivated by a laptop. I've used this laptop to make movies, music, art, video games run surprisingly good, watching videos or movies or really anything in general has became increasingly satisfying due to the amazing next generation graphics. Navigating and using the commands wasn't difficult to get use to at all and I'm new to the MacBook community so I feel like I'm barely touching the surface of what this computer has to offer. So I guess to sum up my first review EVER! I would have to say this is an amazing computer and would be your Best Buy in my opinion. - AIRSHIP

great for any college student Posted by: from: Jax, FL on I recently had the new generation white 13" MacBook which was plastic for about two years. I still love that one, but I dropped it a couple of times so it was cracked, the white plastic would get dirty, and the bottom piece was melting off. So I upgraded to the MacBook pro and I LOVE IT. It has all the greatness of using a mac: awesome battery life, beautiful display, easy to use, everything is easily accessible, very organized, makes things easy because it tells you when to update everything, you can change all the settings exactly to your own preference, and does everything I need for school. (I use Microsoft office student for mac 2011 and it works just fine with all my schoolwork as far as compatibility) This thing is idiot proof. For the most part, If you've never used a Mac or have only used it once or twice, give it two weeks of playing around and getting used to it, and you will never go back to PC. EVER. This is based on my own opinion obviously, along with all of my closest friends who also now use Macs.

Made the switch, for GOOD Posted by: from: NC on After a compaq & gateway tower, a Dell & Sony laptop, I finally gave the Apple MBP a try. My mind is boggled after taking so many years to finally give their products a try because this is the one I am sticking with. What made me lean toward this product was having friends who said they were content with their MacBooks. One of my favorite features is the backlit keyboard since I type in the dark many times. I would say the processor is good, and the display is great. The Apple OS X interface does not take long to get use to. After having my MacBook for nearly a year, I can say that the battery life is better than any other PC laptop I've owned brand new. I've upgraded the RAM because the 4GB did not seem enough to me. I do not like that techs cannot upgrade any hardware except the HDD and RAM. Sometimes I also wish it had an HDMI port, which is what the newer models have, but it is not a must for me. As much abuse as I do, if this can last me a minimum of three years, then I will say that I am sticking with Apple's MBP series. So far, it has not let me down.

Best Mac laptop for the dollar Posted by: from: Montgomery, AL on Macs get ridiculously overpriced as you go away from the base model. This model is by far the best value amongst all the Mac laptops. 1) It has a 500 GB HD. Solid state is overrated. Who cares if it boots up faster, its expensive for a fraction of the space. 2) It has a rewritable DVD drive. Next mac pro models won't have this. 3) Who cares about retina? Display is fine for me. Retina is several hundred more. I absolutely love this laptop, its the first laptop that I actually dont notice I am working on a laptop. I have had some decent PC laptops before and none come close with the ease of typing and using the trackpad. I didn't think I'd like a 13.3 inch, but honestly now I am thinking anything bigger is too much. The other day I left with my laptop bag and had to check again if I had the laptop in there because it was so light I couldn't tell by lifting. The battery lasts a good 5 hours with normal usage, more if you micromanage. I look at the more expensive models and think, wow the top of the line retina is 2x as more. It is not 2x as good!
