Should have been redesigned a long time ago.

It's sad. I really enjoy my Apple products. Their attention to detail and their user friendly designs are the best of the best. However, for some reason and for many years, they continue to pass right over the MageSafe power adapter design when rethinking their products. Yes, they changed the magnetic connector. Which, I presume was done to make it sit more flush to the body of the notebook. However, they keep looking right past the absolute worst part of the design. Where the power cord runs into the converter block. This flimsy design results in worn and faulty wires after about a year of use. So, every year I have to go back to the store and purchase a new one at $80 a pop. I gave this rating a 2nd star only for the fact that I love being able to add the power cord extension on with a quick snap.

Third mac charger-this one just broke too

This was my third mac charger in the two years I've had my macbook pro. It too just broke after only 3 months of use. This is getting ridiculous these chargers are expensive. The first I had for a little over a year so it was out of warranty. I bought a refurbished one the second time to try to avoid paying the astronomical $80 for a new one. That one broke too and didn't have a warranty. I bought this one new so I could have a warranty. Hopefully it works because I've already shelled out close to $120 on chargers for a computer that was expensive to begin with. I take good care of my chargers and typically use them at home and don't even move them. none of them showed any sign of damage, just stopped working. This is not best buy's fault of course but apples. I can't believe this is still a problem considering how long the macbook has been out. I love macs but this is a major drawback when you can buy a pc and have the charger last 10+ years.

I think Apple Corp. knew what they were doing when they made this cheap, overpriced charging cord for their laptops. I am on my third charger for the one computer. I have never seen such a ridiculously made cord. Why couldn't it be like any other cord you can get out there. The wire that goes from the power block to the computer is so thin. What were they thinking. It just doesn't hold up. But guess what folks, if you have an apple laptop, you are just stuck with it. It is in no way universal. What a ridiculously high price for such a thing!

apple really needs to improve there chargers, this is the 3rd one this year. not very happy about this , 85 for a charger that wont even last a year ? so called apple, come on apple cut the cr@p nd stop making us pay so much for a charger that wont last....

Apple fails again

Apple is doing a stellar job of cornering their customers as far as replacement cables/cords go. No real, viable aftermarket products for charging and their product is the same quality, or lack of quality, as the iPhone charging/sync cables and the iPhone headphones. The cable sleeves pull apart from the block and connecting ends. The cables tear if they are kinked, creating a short. Apple needs to revise their design for
All cables and cords. On a positive note, the MagSafe connection is a great safety feature. I'm looking to be spending $80 a year to replace the power cord for my MacBook pro and for such an expensive computer, that is completely unacceptable.

very poor construction

Hi,
I am on my 5th power cord since buying my Mac Pro about year and a half ago. I don't travel, sits on desk all the time, not quite sure how it just quits!
$80.00 per cord to replace, that is ridiculously expensive!!!! No I would not recommend purchasing the cord, but, Mac Pro is no good with out it, so they give you NO CHOICE. at least this one i will be able to replace, I have receipt and it's only been a few weeks this time!

Have owned 2 MacBook Pro's for almost 2 yrs now & will be purchasing our 4th power cord/ac adaptor. The connector to computer breaks over time. Apple needs to redesign this. Cord is too fragile and gets bent frequently which causes it to fray.

Costs too much money for something so poorly made

As others have mentioned, this product seems to have a maximum lifespan of about a year, if you're lucky. I've gone through three in the last year - that's $240. I'm not particularly hard on my computer or my charger, so I really don't understand why it doesn't last longer than it does. If these power adapters cost $20, I wouldn't complain, but they're $80. I came on here to complain solely because I just had yet another adapter go out on me and I'm now thinking about biting the bullet and just purchasing a cheap Windows computer rather than buying yet another $80 power adapter. Very frustrating.

Hi, This is maybe the 4th adapter I have bought since purchasing my Mac Pro a little over a year ago. (so total of 5 it came with one) this adapter i have only had a few weeks so i can return it.....the others i had to purchase $80.00 each time i have to replace it......
Value for price.......POOR
Value for Quality......POOR
Battery Life charge......Lucky if it works....POOR
ease of use.....well if it worked it is pretty easy......POOR

Works fine; just wish I didn't have to buy it

This MagSafe 60W adapted does exactly what it is supposed to do; supply power for my 13" MacBook Pro. However, I had to buy this as a replacement for the one that was supplied with my laptop, which I bought in March... LAME. The connector on these adapters seems to lose connection with the port on the computer after just a few months of use. This seems to be a fairly common problem, as several people have commented on the Apple support forums.
