Glad I purchased! Posted by: from: on This is perfect for anyone who wants to run CDs or DVDs on a MacBook. As a teacher, I wanted to play some audio books as we read along in the textbook. This allowed me to do that. My only complaint is that it took a little time to let the CD load the first time because it would ask if I wanted to sync it to my iTunes. (It can take a few minutes if you decide to sync.) I have read reviews about some people having problems with skipping when using a separate drive, but I didn't have that problem at all with this device. We've watched movies and listened to CDs without any problems--sometimes using it 5+ hours each day. It was easy to switch between tracks to pick up where we left off the previous day. I would definitely recommend it to others.

Much needed tool stil Posted by: from: on I've read how Appple states we live in a all wireless world which I agree it is becoming. Ur there are still times when you need to go back to the past like useing cd's for presentations or assignment for school or to just watch a film on your laptop (yes kids there are still people who watch movies this way especially if your wifi is very weak as it can be when traveling). I find Apples SuperDrive as a necessary tool as most macs no longer come with a drive. I like to burn music cd's and this is very fast in that process plus aesticetly it is a good looking product that fits oerfictky with a Apple laptop it's small enough to pull around in your laptop Everyone may not need it & yes there are less expensive options the Apple SuperDrive is still a good option with the looks & performance to satisfy any user.

First External Drive Posted by: from: on It is my first time owning an external drive. I am used to the traditional PC drive (pre-installed into the computer). It is kind of interesting since ejecting a disk is through telling the laptop to do it, rather than having a physical eject button. I would much prefer having a physical button to manually eject, if there were ever any problems with ejecting a disk if the laptop decides to malfunction. It was an interesting feature, and for now I enjoy it. Although I kind of hoped it would play Blu-ray since we are moving to Blue-ray disks, but maybe Apple will incorporate that for next generation laptops and accessories.

Returned it....... Posted by: from: ft leonard wood, mo on I needed a cd writer for my MacBook and decided that this was the one I wanted. I trust Apple's quality (most of the time) and liked that it would match with my Mac's aluminum chassis. Upon purchasing it, I found a few flaws. The first was that the USB cable did not disconnect from the back of the writer; it was built right in. While if you plan on leaving this connected to an iMac or desktop PC this shouldn't be a problem, for mobility I believe this will lead to ultimate failure. Chords break or loose connectivity and without the ability to replace a $1 chord, I believe I will be left with a pretty aluminum brick. I also didn't like that there was no eject button (but that was not a deal breaker). I ended up returning it and went with a different model. I later went to Apple's own website and people were far less kind than I when reviewing the writer. If mobility matters, keep looking.

The unnecessary neccesity Posted by: from: on I made it through without an optical media drive on my iMac until one day I decided I needed one. After reading some reviews that cast a poor shade on the quality of Apple's SuperDrive, I took the chance and have been very happy with my purchase. While I don't use it very often, it works well and is sufficient for my needs. Did I really need it? That still remains a hot topic of debate.

Get ONLY if you want to pay more for less. Posted by: from: CA on After years of wanting to switch to Mac I finally got a MBPro and this drive. As is fairly common for laptop users I wanted to use a (usb or some kind of) hub to keep things simple for me when I reconnect at my main place of use (dvd burner, keyboard, etc.). Enter Apple Superdive (NOT Superdrive). Unbelievable to me that in this day and age (2013) that Apple makes a drive like this that will NOT work when connected to a powered usb hub. Ridiculous. I will be happy to return this and get another that will actually work as advertised. Enjoy the MBPro I got a lot. NOT a fan of this Superdive at all. Apple should put on the box that it - unlike all the dozens of other usb gadgets I've used over the years - will NOT work UNLESS directly connected to computer. (Turns out this' well known in Apple user circles, but which was unknown to me till now.)

As always...Apple does great again! Posted by: from: on As always...Apple does great again! The sales person showed me the least expensive version of what I wanted until he (quickly) realized I wasn't necessarily looking at cost. When he realized what I wanted he was quick to find it and check me out. Good work Best Buy!

Just works Posted by: from: on Apple's USB SuperDrive just works. Simple plug in. Let's me play movies, rip music and burn music from iTunes. I tried an LG which was fine for installing an application but couldn't be used for burning a cd from iTunes. Definitely glad I went with the Apple at the end.

Great DVD and CD Player Posted by: from: on I was a little disappointment that my 5k 27 inch Imac did not have a CD and DVD player but I guess it had to be removed to make the computer thinner. I still own a lot of music in CD form and want to create DVD videos for the family who are still behind the whole Bluray technology. I have tested this device importing audio and data from CDs and still works like a champ. I have over 30 CDs of data from the past that I forgot about so I used this device to import my stuff to my computer. I will update my review if it fails.
