Great Modem for Price
Posted by: Manuel from: on
This Arris SB6183 Modem is working great. It was set up by the Comcast installer. I was previously with AT and T so I am very glad Comcast allows it's customers to own their own modem and therefore save the monthly rental feeI we were always paying in addition to AT and T. Plus with Best Buy's price match guarentee we saved even more as well as we were able to use a Best Buy Rewards certificate. So thanks to God when all was said and done we ended up paying about $9.99 plus tax for this $109.00 modem. It's a blessing from God!

Excellent Modem, Impressive Speeds
Posted by: Johnnyboy84 from: New York, NY on
After searching high and low for months for this modem I finally found it at an awesome price at Best buy. I'm glad I bought it I have been paying for ultimate speed but only getting 100mbps because I was being limited by my old Arris/Motorola 6141.
I called up Time Warner and activated it but it took the technician a few tries to get it right. Approximately an hour more or so. This modem is different from the 6141 the internet activity indicator is located in the back of the router where you plug in the ethernet cable. This is vital to know because I assumed that it wasn't set up properly but it was. All the front icons should be solid the top and bottom icon are white and the two middle are a steady blue. None of the icons shouldn't blink once connected but my main issue was with my Belkin N600DB it was limiting my upload speed drastically. After sometime I realized that it didn't support the ultimate speed that TWC is giving me. I was still getting around 90mbps which was my old ultimate 100 speed. So I needed a router with gigabit support and this router wasn't cutting it.
I purchased an Asus RT-AC68P and it fixed all of my problems after some configuration and change of wireless settings. I spent much longer on this than I should have if I had done just a bit more research it would have been an easy set up. I'm not complaining by any means but I am overall happy with my purchase. I'll break in my new devices tomorrow with my PS4 and some Netflix streaming.
If you want the best speed TWC currently offers in NY then do yourself a favor and pick this modem up. I also purchased a geek squad warranty in case it goes bad then I'm covered.

Purchased to replace the Comcast Xfinity X1 modem/router/telephone combo piece of junk that came with my installation. Many times the Xfinity modem would loose connection, nearly weekly, even though the lights would indicate online. I even checked the service status online with my cell phone and found Comcast claimed "all good" on their end. Would have to reboot the Xfinity modem MANY times to get it back online AND work with my ASUS RT-AC68P router. Brought it home dreading the pending phone call to Comcast here in Hillsboro, Oregon. Plugged it in, opened my browser and presto! - it self activated on my account within 15 minutes - NO NEED TO CALL COMCAST!!!! Unplugged the PC ethernet cable, plugged it into my router - rebooted both and online again. Modem works great - still getting 124Mbps DOWN / 12Mbps UP.
Lost the landline VOIP phone - only got it because it was free and no one calls it but telemarketers anyway. Will keep the phone line on the account only because will I loose the new customer 2YR bundle price if I drop it increasing my monthy Comcast bill. This modem is worth EVERY PENNY!!!!

Solid Cable Modem
Posted by: JaJA6009 from: Atlantic City, NJ on
This modem is a great deal. First Comcast will rent you an inferior modem for $8-10 a month. This modem will pay for itself and offers a bit of future proofing as internet speeds increase. At 600 Mbps it is still too much modem for the 100Mbps that Comcast gives me with Blast. But I can grow into it as speeds increase. I paired this modem with a Asus 86U 1900 router and my speeds are incredible. On AC Wifi on the Apple Airpad 2 I got 125Mbps! On AC Wifi on an LG G3 I got 118 Mbps. On my gaming PC that is hooked up to the router via MoCa cable connection I get 87 Mbps. This combo is already for me to stream 1080p from Netflix or Google play but it is still good enough to be able to do Ultra high def 4K when I do buy a new TV.
Its only downside is price. You dont need this modem to do what Im doing. But it is future proof for many years to come.

A robust and easy to use cable modem
Posted by: LongTimeGamerAndSon from: Arizona on
After 6 years my previous cable model started to give out and my Internet access was suffering. After spending time on the phone with my ISPs technical support they noticed that my old modem was not giving me the speed that I had been paying for; it had too few channels to give me the speed I had been paying for. Until then the ISP had always told us that there was nothing wrong and we were getting the actual speeds we signed up for. The tech support person said I needed to get a new cable modem that supported the extra channels that my higher speed required.
So I did some research on Best Buy for a reliable cable modem that would meet the channel requirement the tech told me and found this one. Lucky for me it was in stock at my local store and was on sale. I ran right over and was back home installing it within an hour. I then spent another 30 minutes on the phone getting it "activated" by my ISPs tech support folks. Once they did that I started to see a 5x increase in my SpeedTest results.
So far it has been reliable and trouble free. For that I give it a definite thubs up.

Modem so far works well with Xfinity provider, I purchased it to take advantage of expanded features from Xfinity. Had difficulty matching with Apple Time Capsule. Working acceptably for last few weeks.

Real Increase in Bandwidth Speeds
Posted by: dogrescueguy from: on
My home internet setup: ISP Comcast Extreme 150 Internet service, w/Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi Router (R7000) on 5G network and I was previously using a Netgear Model: CMD31T modem.
We have on average about 14 devices connected to the router and the mobile/tablet devices were very slow to load FB, videos, ect. It drove me crazy. On my desktop I would avg about 80-90 mb/s down, about 20 mb/s up. And the speeds were always inconsistent throughout the day.
Since activating this new Arris modem I've almost doubled the bandwidth output. See the screenshots for yourself. All devices are faster from desktop to iphone. Even my iPhone speed test scored a 115 mb/s down and 24 mb/s up. The Netgear modem was obviously creating the bottleneck, not that it's a bad modem, it's just an older model. I'm not a network guy but seeing is believing.
Installation was plug it in, call Comcast with MAC address, plug the router back in and I was done. If you depend on internet speed, this was definitely a great network upgrade.

White speed demon and great night light, lol
Posted by: Bonomo1987 from: on
Packaging was great. The install was super easy. Awesome plug and play, you just got to call your internet provider and give them the MAC address. Within 10 min I was up and running. I was using the Time Warner Cable(TWC) Internet speed of 100 down/10 up. It put me up to 118/11 in a few speed tests. The reason I got this modem was to save money in the long run. TWC was charging me about $10 a month to rent from them. Because I just saved myself $10 a month by buying this AWESOME modem I upgraded my internet speeds to the 200 down/20 up. After the speed upgrade I did a few speed tests and the results were amazing at 217.13/21.68. My speed test was using a connect cat7 Ethernet cable. Do yourself the favor and buy this. Look at the pic with my results.

An Absolute Must Buy
Posted by: cwarren from: on
If you want the highest possible speed out of your cable service, I would certainly say, look no further. No matter the Tier you have. The purchase pays for itself if you're leasing the equipment from your cable provider. There's absolutely no reason why someone should be leasing their equipment now, unless of course you just like to give the cable co. your money for no good reason.

Great buy for the money

Easy set up and works well with my Time Warner cable provider. Also better than paying a monthly rental fee.
