Don't Pay a Lease
Posted by: DavidEBB from: Katy, TX on
Comcast increased my lease from $5 to $10 per month so I started looking for alternatives. I've always known that you could get your own modem, but for $5 a month it was worth it to me because if anything went wrong they would provide tech support and would give you a new one if it went bad. I was already using my own router, so it made Comcast's modem router combo half useless. I had asked about just getting a modem and if might be less, but they said they didn't have any.
I wish that I had made the move earlier. Set up was easy. I literally called Comcast and then plugged it in. The speeds are the same as the previous modem, which is the most important thing. I've even had less disconnects than with the Comcast unit. WI would absolutely recommend this.

The Maserati of Modems
Posted by: CactusDawg from: Tucson, AZ on
I have used several different modems on my high-speed internet connection and this beats them all. Don’t waste your time with any other modem!
The difference is quite apparent with Net Flix, YouTube and other video services. It handles several streams at once; you can use your computer while watching Net Flix with no slow down. Previously, Net Flix would give me a “loading” message and the movie would stop. No more!
The modem comes in white. That was the only color BB had several weeks ago. I found it funny as the technically challenged would now be able to tell the modem from the router. Tech support: “The modem is the WHITE box.”
My only gripe is that it stands vertically. I put mine horizontally with the wall mount cutouts on the bottom not to block the ventilation holes.

Excellent except one thing
Posted by: BestBuyCustomer from: on
The LEDs are super-bright with no way to dim them. They light up the entire room. Arris technical support suggested putting tape over the front panel. Unfortunately, the light escapes through the extremely well-ventilated case, as well. Aside from that, it appears to be an excellent modem, and I would have rated it five stars. I will be returning it, though, and would only recommend it to those who don't mind their room glowing with blinking blue light.

Great overall modem
Posted by: mhljhjhl from: Orange County, CA on
I bought this to replace an old DOCSIS 2.0 modem I have. I settled on this after through searching and research. This is the top of the line modem on the market and the speeds prove it! Fast sustained speeds no hickups downloading YouTube videos like my previous modem, no waiting for things to load. The only flaw of this modem is the status LEDs, they are very bright, lighting up my office at night, which personally is not a big deal but could be if you keep your modem somewhere it could affect you, plus the connection light constantly flashes which is slightly annoying yet personally not a problem. If you are in the market for a cable modem look no further!!!!

Great cable modem
Posted by: jasonbdc from: Bay Area, CA on
Not one of the cheapest options, but this cable modem is one of the newest versions from Motorola (that is compatible with all the main ISPs) and is excellent all around. Used it to replace the Arris rental from Comcast to stop the $7/month rental fee. It boasts very fast speeds that will serve me well in the future should I choose upgrade my internet speed. Setup--including time on the phone with Comcast--was less than 15 minutes. It helped that I was already up and running with a previous cable modem. So all I had to do was swap out modems and call to have it activated. The form factor is smaller than my previous, and it's a standing unit so it takes less desk space. A very minor negative is that the LED lights on the front are super bright.

good for rcn 50mbps ethernet connection
Posted by: rick from: on
bought in Aug 2016, installed next day: easy instructions to connect, called rcn to send their signal to initiate connection. Flawless performance. This modem has blue and yellow signal lights. Did not think of it at time of purchase, but have a personal preference for red lights as the blue/yellow lights are bright at night and noticeable when you walk into the room at night. I put the modem behind the desk so I do not see the lights at night. Otherwise, very pleased with this modems ease to install and operation

Easy to setup, works good, lots of leds!
Posted by: TmanSpearz from: Green Bay, WI on
I got this modem for my mother to use with her Time Warner internet connection. If you have your own modem they don't charge you to rent theirs for internet use. Yet we need their modem for the phone service so we have to keep using it for that, but there isn't a charge for it. The logic makes no sense, but we save around $8 a month and have two modems side by side on the desk.
The modem works well and was very easy to hook up and get activated with Time Warner. The only downside I have found so far is the brightness of the led(s) on the front. There are more than needed and the one that tells you the internet is working blinks red constantly. I thought it must mean there is an error so I checked the book and it's supposed to do that! It's annoying and unnecessary, but the modem works and we have one less fee to pay the cable company

Best Modem for the Money!
Posted by: DJPP from: on
Tired of paying Comcast $8.00 a month rental fee, slower and slower speeds, calls and chat support always blaming the problem on my end prompted me to look into another option.
The SURFboard SB6141 installation was pretty much "plug & play". Connected the cable, power and router (will post another review of the Netgear R7000) called Comcast to activate and was up and running in less than 10 minutes. Couldn't have been easier.
The tier we our on with Comcast is 25Mbps. With the Comcast modem/router download and upload speeds were both under 7Mbps. First speed test after installation was 73.89Mbps download and 12.15Mbps upload.
The price on the shelf was $99. I had printed out the online price of $91. It rung up at $89.
I can't recommend the SURFboard SB6141 enough.

My old cable modem stopped working after 4 years so I went to buy a replacement. This was recommended and it has worked fine ever since I set it up.

This modem was easy to set up because of the easy to follow instructions. It is working well and I have had no problems thus far.
