A fish-out-of-water gangster comedy featuring two of Korea's hottest young stars, Gamunui Yeonggwang (aka Marrying the Mafia) weaves a humorous tale of chance meeting and bizarre circumstance. Waking up one morning next to the beautiful Jang Jin-kyeong (Kim Jeong-eun) without any recollection of how he got there, hotshot young lawyer Park Dae-seo (Jeong Jun-ho) learns to his horror that his newfound bedmate is the daughter of a notorious mob kingpin (Park Geun-hyeong). As her protective older brother In-tae (Yu Dong-geun) insists that Park marry Jang in order to maintain his honor, it's soon revealed that In-tae has schemed to improve his family name by forcing the up-and-coming lawyer to marry his sister. Though the new couple seems to get along regardless of their odd circumstances, their romance is quickly challenged by Park's longtime girlfriend, Yu-jin (Lee Seo-yeon), who has no intentions of letting her man go so easily. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
Guns & Talks
South Korean filmmaker Jang Jin directs the action comedy Killeodeureui Suda, which is given the grammatically questionable English title Guns & Talks. The story involves a group of young attractive hitmen who live in a house together. Sang-yeon (Shin Hyun-Joon) is the leader, Jung-woo (Shin Ha-kyun) is the demolitions expert, Jae-young (Jung Jae-yeong) is the sniper, and Ha-yeon (Weon Bin) is the youngest who just wants to be one of the guys. They tell random one-line jokes and get into absurd situations in between all the assassinations involving attractive women. Jae-young is hired to kill a pregnant woman but he falls for her at the last second. A high school girl wants them to do a job for her, and Ha-yeon falls for her. Other assassinations include a TV anchorwoman (Ko Eun-mi) and a detective (Jeong Jin-Young). ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi
Kim Sang-jin' action comedy Gwangbokjeol Teuksa (Jail Breakers) features two big stars in Korean cinema. Seol Gyeong-gu portrays Yu Jae-pil, a small time grifter whose 14-month sentence has been stretched to eight years due to his numerous bungled escape attempts. Upon learning that his girlfriend intends to marry another man on Independence Day, Yu resolves to escape once again. He teams up with Choi Mu-seok (Cha Seung-won), a hardened inmate who has spent years building a tunnel with a spoon. They escape, only to learn that they were to be released on Independence Day as part of a goodwill program. They must return to the prison to be officially released, but before the go back Yu Jae-pil takes drastic measures in regard to his girlfriend. Jail Breakers was screened at the Pusan Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi
A bold serial killer known only as "Goliath" sets into motion a series of events that will help authorities solve a mystery that has plagued a futuristic city in unified Korea for nearly 30 years in this flashy sci-fi thriller from up-and-coming director Yun-su Jeon.
