Expensive but worth it Posted by: from: on Powerline networking and hard cables weren't an option for us and we've been suffering with a so-so Netgear wireless router for about 3 years now. Finally, I decided it was time to step up to something better and this unit exceeded my expectations. After about 15 minutes of setup I swapped it in for the old router and, in my office, which is literally on the other side of our house, my data rate went from about 12-14mbps to 127mbps. More importantly, the 1 to 3 second dropouts, where I was getting no data rate at all, are gone. Pros: - Easy setup (just make sure you're really connected to your ISP before you run it) - Very powerful (no signal strength issues here) - Fast enough to serve at least three high load connections simultaneously Cons: - Expensive for a dual-band unit Bottom Line: If, like me, you had a persistent issue with uneven bandwidth and spotty connections, this may be the solution you've been looking for.

Nice Upgrade-Beast Mode Posted by: from: on Got this beast of a router to replace my AirPort Extreme 802.11n (5th Generation). So far, I have close-to-zero complaints. I am consistently getting better speeds, better connectivity distance, better reliability (especially during HD and UHD streaming to my basement), and the new router is very capable in terms of handling as many devices as I've thrown at it simultaneously (most was 8; 5 streaming devices while other 3 devices were just web surfing). I am also a big fan of the web UI, which allows you to set up VPN across the network and a slew of other modifiable network settings and configs. Only small complaint is the 10,000 small blinking lights on the front/top of router. This is sitting open on a desk in my center, master bedroom and every night I have to put a little Ringwraith figure over the set of lights to block them out. Otherwise, they illuminate the room enough to disturb sleep. Ultimately, this is an issue with all modems/routers I have bought and/or considered over the years. All in all, definitely recommend and approve of this router.

3rd Router (ASUS WINS) Posted by: from: on I purchased the AC-3100 after the purchasing the following that just did not suit my needs. I purchased the NETGEAR AC-5300 (440 DOLLAR ROUTER) Amped AC-2600 (not available at best buy) GOOGLE ON HUB (ASUS) so after experiencing all the the three from the list above I can honestly say (RELIABILITY) the ASUS AC3100 beat the rest HANDS DOWN. the INTERFACE is the most simple and quickest out of the 3 (Minus the google) but the google onhub was just a little to basic for my needs with lots of features missing. if you are a standard user with no computer or networking experience I STILL RECCOMEND THE ASUS AC3100 (plug it in and its super super easy to set up) I am not going to go through specifications as most of you will do your OWN research, I am basically telling you (THROUGHPUT AND RELIABILITY) this unit is excellent. the RANGE on the 2.4 is brilliant and the speeds on the 5Ghz are impressive. very happy with my purchase and I am so glad I am finished on finding the perfect router. enjoy peeps

Great Router Posted by: from: on This router is amazing. The speed and range is awesome. I had the Asus RT-N66U before this but it just couldn't keep up with my new 155/15 internet connection. This router is giving me wireless download speeds of 180-200 since our connection is running closer to 200 down most of the time. I am very happy with this purchase great router and highly recommend it.

VERY good router for home use Posted by: from: on I purchased this router with the intention of a) getting away from twc's "best available" combo unit (also purchased a modem to accompany new router), and b) increasing range of coverage to throughout the whole house (new home construction, wireless was the preferred method of connecting, one office in the basement, the other office on the second floor, modem and router are on 1st floor, for the time being). Well, once this router was hooked up, 2.4 + 5Ghz channels both configured, the range expanded exponentially, it seemed! 5Ghz has it's limitations inherent of its channel, regarding distance, etc., but the 2.4 channel is fully available everywhere on my tiny quarter-acre lot, and then some. I know I haven't much commented on the advanced features much, and in honesty I haven't done much more than tinker with them. This modem may be a bit of overkill for what it's actually used for (for now) in my home, but I have a feeling I will likely make good use of the limitations/restrictions that can be enacted, once my son reaches age 10 or above and wants the wifi password. Long story long, if you're looking for something to provide strong wifi connections throughout many stories and rooms of a larger home, then this router would be a really excellent choice (but not your only choice, however!) and would likely not disappoint an average user at all. P.S. In my experience so far with this unit, the price tag of the unit has been justified, not only because of rock-solid signal strength EVERYWHERE in my house, but also the fact that for an average wifi user, this modem seems to be fairly future-proof (resistant, anyways)... Hope this ramble helped!

Great speed, coverage Posted by: from: on Here's the problem I faced: I live in a house with just one cable outlet, and that one is in a relatively inconvenient place, but I needed a fast, reliable internet connection, not just for streaming HD videos (Netflix, etc) but for my job (which involves frequent video conferences). Solution: a router that provides a large area of coverage and a really strong signal. Based on various review sites, it seemed like the Asus - AC3100 might do the trick. Based on several months of usage at the time of this review, it certainly has. I routinely get speeds faster than Comcast claims I should (based on my plan) and the connection is strong and reliable, even from three floors up in my house. Even the backyard is covered. In sum, this a great router. It is on the expensive side, and is probably more than many people need, but if a fast internet connection throughout your house is a priority for you, I think it is well worth the investment.

Works like a champ! Posted by: from: on We have over 10 things needing internet connection in our household & this not only will take care of all those but also is the new tech for the future. Has a 2 year warranty with it as well. I will never buy Net Gear again after knowing they only have a 90 day warranty & can "just give me a code" to fix my router right after that 90 days expires...Coincidence? Hardly!

Perfect for families with teens Posted by: from: on I know enough about routers/modems to get myself into all kinds of trouble. Mind you, the last time i bought a router/modem was 8 years ago. I blocked off a half a day to install the router, but it only took about an hour to install & the instructions were easy to follow. Hardest part was calling my ISP to allow the modem i purchased to connect to their network. All the control/options the router gives you is perfect. With teens with gaming systems, i can schedule to turn off their access to the internet individually on any device that connects to the router! No more fighting with them-it just shuts off to their gaming systems at whatever time i set up, but keeps other devices connected. I can pick & choose. Very user friendly, especially for a novice like me.

This router is amazing ! go for it. Posted by: from: on I normally get ASUS products just so you know, but i got this router as an upgrade from the ASUS AC2400 router that i owned before which was already a beast, but let me tell you! this router eliminates latency more than anything I've ever seen. The new firmware has a gaming boost feature that prioritizes devices to make sure there is little to no lag even with the MU - MIMO. People tell me a lot that they can see my wifi signals from the other end of my block. This router is amazing, the UI is friendly to use, You're also able to setup as many VLANS as you need for your home network. This one also comes with Print server, Anyone who has left nighthawk for this has been nothing but happy. I recommend this product a million times more than i would a netgear router.

Great router Posted by: from: on We had an old Apple time capsule (wireless n) with an airport express base station extending the signal to the front of the house. This router blows the Apple router away. Where we used to get 35mbps, we now get a full 60mbps...without the need of an extender! A few notes: Asus does a good job at updating their firmware. Be sure to update it when you hook up the router. Also, take advantage of link aggregation if you have a Mac Pro or other computer with two Ethernet ports. It is easy to set up and it makes a difference! Overall this is a very nice router and with more wireless devices than ever it is important to invest in a strong network. This router keeps everything going strong!
