Not worth the headache

Received item less than 24 hours ago and spent most of the time between then and now just trying to install it with no luck. I have a ASUS notebook that doesn't have a disk drive and thought this would be a great add on. It took 10 hours to get ahold of anyone, and when I did they were just as confused as I was. Although it claims it is compatible with Windows 8 they haven't done an update to their drivers since 2006, which seems to be the problem. I'm sure this could be a nice product but it's not up to date as advertised, therefore I can't give it more than a star. You've been warned.

Blue Ray Player not for a beginner
Posted by: ZMan12345 from: Virginia on
Bought for my son's laptop and followed steps to install but it will not play blue ray discs. Called Best Buy. They said call Asus. Asus could not get it to work. Said to call Best Buy and have Geek Squad install it. I called Best Buy back. They said I did not buy support on new product and doubted as to whether Geek Squad would help me. Planning on malking the 35 mile trip to Best Buy to see if I can get help. Also, could not get player into simple plastic stand with out a lot of force. Did not want to supply that force so stand is useless.

nice and small

nice little external blu-ray player. It uses 2 usb ports to supply enough power, so make sure you have the space.

I have an old net book (ASUS Eee PC 1000HA) that I needed to re-install windows on because it got all infected. I was able to boot the windows install disk connected to my EEE PC with this. Got the Blu-Ray reader for future proofing. Nice style and design. It does need two USB ports for power but I like that more than needed a separate plug for the wall. It came with some backup software but I didn't try it.
