Very relaxing, fun listen Posted by: from: Rhode Island on I'm not really one for classical music on a daily basis, but I was lucky enough to be able to hear this and it may have changed my mind. The first time I received the CD, I popped it in after a really long day at work while I worked on the computer. Not only was it great, quiet, relaxing background music, but I may even listen to it in the car on it's own. I Loves You Porgy was like listening to soulful dancing. Come Again was formal and soft, simply delightful. Para Ti is nice and upbeat and just makes you want to dance. My Funny Valentine was simple and beautiful, with ethereal vocals, very meditative. While I love The Beatles Eleanor Rigby, I did not like this version. It was too fast and overpowering and was not one of my favorite remakes. Il Postino flows gently like rippling water. Look Away is great, I loved the sound of the "plucking" strings. While there were a few miscues in there (some of the music doesn't "fit" together), overall a great CD. Definitely a must-listen.

A Musical Treat for Your Ears, Soul, and Mind Posted by: from: HI, USA on You don’t have to love classical music to enjoy At Home With Friends. Featuring the beautiful work of Joshua Bell and other artists, this CD features a nice blend of genres, including pop, jazz, and opera. My favorite track is Come Again, which features Sting. It was a really nice song, and it was a pleasant surprise to hear Sting sing in a genre I haven’t heard him sing in before. I also enjoyed many other tracks on this CD, including My Funny Valentine, Il Postino, and Maybe So. Bell has surrounded himself with other amazing vocalists and musicians, such as Josh Groban and Chris Botti, to create a CD that both fans and those new to his music would appreciate. There are just so many beautiful songs on the CD, and the friends Bell has teamed up with both complement and showcase his amazing talent as a violinist. At Home With Friends is a CD that you can sit down and relax to while enjoying a glass of wine, reading a book, or even while driving, to help you de-stress. At Home With Friends is simply a musical treat for your ears, soul, and mind.

A Musical Masterpiece Posted by: from: Fargo, ND on Ok, I have a confession. Before listening to this new CD, I had not heard of Joshua Bell. No, I do not live under a rock . . . I just somehow missed hearing anything about him. This CD interested me because it had Kristin Chenoweth singing (most recently of Pushing Daisies fame). This CD completely blew me away. I knew I would be impressed by the many vocalists, but even with the amazing voices of Kristin and Sting (just to mention a couple), the real star is clearly Joshua Bell. I would not classify myself as a huge fan of cliassical music, but this CD is AMAZING! I have recommended it to about 50 people already! If you are in doubt, just listen to the samples . . . and you will be amazed too!

Unique !!! Posted by: from: on I was immediately taken by Joshua Bell's new album, "At Home With Friends". It's a beautiful record. I hadn't heard much about Joshua Bell before, but once I saw the lineup of talents that would be performing with him, I knew this was going to be something special. Isn't it so impressive?! Josh Groban, Sting, Chris Botti, Regina Spektor, Kristen Chenowith, Marvin Hamlisch and the list goes on.At Home with Joshua Bell CD is a great exhibit of his talent with the violin. He celebrates great friendships and talents in his Manhattan Home. There is a big variance in musical styles, his music it's nothing like you ever heard before. Great for entertainment in home and for the holidays too.

A nice departure for Joshua Bell Posted by: from: Scottsdale, AZ on This new release from Joshua Bell is a nice departure from his typical album. He has invited a medley of artists, from Kristin Chenoweth (of "Wicked" fame) to Frankie Moreno, to perform with him in a variety of styles. My favorite tracks are "Variant Moods: Duet for Sitar & Violin" (with Anoushka Shankar), "Cinema Paradiso" (with Josh Groban), and "I'll Take Manhattan" (with Marvin Hamlisch). I did not feel Sting's voice lent well to this type of music, nor did I like Regina Spektor's "Left Hand Song." Overall, however, this is a fantastic album that will appeal to many types of people.

A wonderful, diverse CD Posted by: from: Bayville, NY on I've heard Joshua Bell perform on several occasions and have always admired his playing, though it has all been classical music. This album gives the listener all the sides of Joshua Bell, not just the classical, but a diverse range of pieces with some amazing artists such as Chris Botti, Anoushka Shankar and Kristin Chenoweth. Each piece has its own personality and showcases Bell's amazing musical skills (as always, I am highly impressed with his tone and technical passages). Though I did find one or two of the pieces a bit odd, overall this is a great album filled with great music!

Violin Virtuoso Posted by: from: Missouri on I have always been a fan of Joshua and his amazing violin skills. Now i am thrilled to own an album that combines that with some of my favorite artists for a CD that is, on the whole, lovely listening. I was very excited to hear one of my favorite singer/songwriters, Regina Spektor, perform with Josh on TWO tracks on this album, "Left Hand song" and "Left Hand." Definitely a little different than the normal fare! Other names on this CD include the amazing Kristin Chenoweth, of WICKED fame, and even Sting! If you are a fan of classical with a contemporary twist, you will love this!

The Violin Of An Angel Posted by: from: Cincinnati, OH on In his album At Home With Friends, it is easy to see why Josh is a grammy winning violinist! I love how he took the idea of hosting musical soirees at home with friends to compiling music for this CD. I was excited about the fact that he has artists such as Josh Grobin and even Sting singing along to the beautiful music of his violin. If you have never listened to Joshua Bell before, I highly recommend this as your first album of his to own! It is sure to satisfy even the pickiest of music lovers!

Oh. What A Friend! Posted by: from: venice,ca on The concept of At Home With Friends was inspired by Joshua Bell’s long-time practice of holding "musical soirees" at his New York residence, eclectic gatherings of musicians, actors, comics, literary figures and others who convene for the sheer joy of sharing their art in an informal setting. With this in mind, Bell has spent the past four years designing and building his home in Manhattan to accommodate the ideal "stay-at-home" venue. On this recording, friends performing with Joshua Bell include Chris Botti, Sting, Carel Kraayenhof, Josh Groban, Edgar Meyer, Frankie Moreno, Nathan Gunn, Regina Spektor, Chris Thile, Anoushka Shankar, Marvin Hamlisch and even Sergei Rachmaninov by way of Zenph Re-performance technology. The covers that Bell selected for At Home With Friends are as varied as its performers, beginning with a tender rendition of “I Loves You Porgy.” The sweet strings of Bell’s violin blend beautifully with the lonely jazz of Botti’s trumpet on the Porgy and Bess ballad. Sting lends his voice to the sixteenth century love song “Come Again,” a version of which appeared on Sting’s The Journey & The Labyrinth. I preferred the simpler lute rendition on Sting’s album, but Bell’s arrangement is also very pretty. Josh Groban’s voice makes a good companion for Bell’s violin in the theme from “Cinema Paradiso.” However, it’s my Cuban boys Tiempo Libre who steal the show with “Para Ti.” The song alternates between peppy brass coupled with rhythmic Latin percussion and soft orchestral interludes.

Wonderful evening with Friends Posted by: from: St. Louis, Mo on Joshua Bell is fantastic on his newest album “at home with friends”. I love the concept…I love the sound. Each one is different which makes the album great to listen to. I caught him on the Tonight Show with Tiempo Libre and I have to say I was impressed. He is such a versatile musician. I love to watch him play the violin. It would be amazing to be able to be at one of his at home concerts! How cool would that be ! This album is definitely a keeper!
