Not what we expected. Posted by: from: Albuquerque, NM on This is a very well made and acted movie. No problems with the technical side of things. Be warned though, this film is not for everyone. Very harsh portrayal of a family with a long history of problems. Don't let the picture on the cover fool you. This is not a feel-good, warm and fuzzy story of family reconciliation. It is just the opposite. Many times during the movie I just wanted to turn it off. The only thing that kept me going was the excellent performances by Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in what must have been difficult roles. If you want something that will leave you happy, watch Nebraska.

good movie Posted by: from: Topeka, ks on Its a very good movie about family life how depression and substance abuse can affect a family and how people grow from their childhood experiences to adulthood. This movies shows how life is in reality of how we deal with issues that happen to us while growing up and how to deal with it as adults. This movie shows reality in all of us how we deal with social issues as a family.

FANTASTIC ACTING Posted by: from: NY on The acting is super, those that are over the top do so and does that have to be low keyed do so. All in all the casting and the great acting make this a very wonderful movie. It showcases how families interact and all the dysfunctions that go into a family and how pride stands firm even unto the fall.

Great movie for folks 40+ Posted by: from: columbus, oh on This was an excellent movie, with strong women as leading actors (which is difficult to find). The acting was excellent, all the way around. The viewer must be patient and interested in the characters and their plights in order to enjoy. I think this would definitely appeal to women rather than men.

Hillariuos, tragic, real! I know these people Posted by: from: Maine on Seriously funny, tragic and real all at once. Terrific cast - it is great to have three of my all time favorite people on screen at the same time - Roberts, Lewis and Nicholson - wow! We also see why Meryl Streep has such a collection of oscars.

good drama Posted by: from: maple heights on meryl streep was really great at making you dispise her a truly horrible person with little to no redeeming factors. I also admire Julia Roberts for allowing herself to look ordinary which is not easy for her to accomplish great supporting cast as well

Love Meryl & Julia Posted by: from: Orlando, FL on Saw this movie with my mom in theaters and had to buy it for her for her birthday. It was quite relatable on different levels. A drama that had it's fair share of great one liners along with it's dramatic moments. Awesome movie.

Great acting but sad story Posted by: from: Mechanicscille,VA on The cast was so diverse and each character was well played. The ending was a surprise but really could not have ended any other way. Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts were great together.

Not what it was cracked up to be Posted by: from: Oklahoma on We got this movie since it was filmed closed to where i live. However it is defiantly not a film for kids. But i was really disappointed in the film, it lost my interest several times.
