Synopsis

When Hitler's Nazis set about conquering Europe during World War II, the Allied Powers soon realized that they badly needed a counteroffensive to help turn the tide against the fascists. Three legendary battlefields helped accomplish this goal: one in Italy, another in Normandy, and a third in North Africa. As originally seen on the BBC and PBS documentary series Battlefield, the three historical documentaries in this set depict these events, each one focusing on Allied counteroffensives in one of the said geographic regions. The Battle for North Africa illustrates how Operation Torch enabled the Allies to defeat Erwin Rommel and ultimately invade Europe; The Battle for Italy depicts the brutal battles that transpired throughout Italy and opened the door for the Allies to seize that country; and The Battle of Normandy hearkens bak to D-Day, June 6th, 1944, when the Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy and undertook the single largest amphibious operation in history. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi
