Full disclosure - I have a headphone problem. I own probably too many of them for one person, but it's a small vice. Some guys like to buy sneakers or watches or cars or tools. I buy headphones.
Anyway, here's my review:
I have the Powerbeats 2 and these X's sound so much better to me.
That's the key: To Me.
I listen to a plethora of music from electronic to rap to rock to alternative to classical to even talk radio (you get the point). Bass punch and treble are balanced nicely. They may even sound slightly better that my Bose Soundsport headphones (my gym pair).
The seal I get when I put these in my ears blocks out nearly all ambient noise and I typically can't hear people talking-a feature my family thinks is particularly annoying (a plus? :>)). They fit nice and comfortably in my ear canal and are incredibly comfortable - I forget I'm wearing them after a while. My only negative comment is I won't be able to take these to the gym, since they're not sweat resistant. I can't downgrade my star rating of these for that though - they don't claim to be sweat proof.

love the BeatsX!! they are a bit longer than the power beats and with the magnetic tips there is no worry of them falling off my neck when not in the ears. the 8 hr battery is good. really like the Fast Fuel charge with the lightning cable

If you're looking for sound quality and comfort...
Posted by: mikecav22 from: on
I have tested out Powerbeats3, Beatsx, and Bose Soundsport Wireless.
First, the Beatsx are extremely comfortable and give an excellent rich, almost punchy sound. Which is exactly what I was looking for. Once you find the right tips for a good fit (which I urge everyone to try different sizes) the quality is unbeatable. Bass response is heavy, but not overpowering. Don't think about it, buy it.
Powerbeats3 is almost identical in sound, just a different fit. Just a matter of personal preference.
Bose Soundsport fit nice and sound great, just didn't have the "punch" in sound I was looking for. It has a more level range of frequencies instead of thriving in one or more particular frequencies.

Best sounding ear bud out there, very strong bass
Posted by: Gadgetman from: on
Very strong bass, sound is phenomenal and loud. If the bass sounds tiny for you as another reviewer said, you don't have a good seal with the buds, try a different size. When the seal is good, the bass is very strong, it feels like you are at a concert. The bass feels stronger than the powerbeats 3. Blows the LG tone platinum's. I like the wrap around your neck style, as it's comfortable in the office and does not rub against your collar like the powerbeats or jaybird x3. Also there is wing tips provided to get a better grip in your ear when working out. When you touch the cable or it rubs against your cheek, the sound is not amplified into your ear. The Jaybird's x3 had this problem which was very annoying. Charges 0 to 100% in under 30 min, very fast charging.

Great sound but some annoying quirks
Posted by: solartechSD from: San Diego, CA on
The sound out of these buds are great. Noise cancelling is also great. Syncing to your iPhone 7 is like a dream and really effortless. They stay in your ears during a workout which is great!
On the negative side. Putting them back in their pouch/case is an impossible task. I worry that the cord will lose integrity so I end up not using the pouch at all.
The cord that connects the two buds is semi flexible which sometimes makes them annoying to wear while working out.
Overall I recommend these but definitely not mind blown by them. They are ok.

Good, but not great bluetooth headphones
Posted by: geeksrpeeps2 from: on
I tried these for about a week (purchasing on launch day) and really wanted to love these Beats X, but ultimately returned. I was looking for a replacement for my LG HBS-810 Ultra (horseshoe style), which was serviceable but I was excited by the features of the Beats X.
While I appreciated some of the features (lightning cable charging, comfortable fit, extended bluetooth range aided by W1 chip), the sound quality (which was only incrementally better than my LG 810) just didn't justify the $149 price tag.
Being used to the horseshoe style retractable buds of my LG 810, the necklace style fit of the Beats X felt very awkward, as was the performance of the inline volume controller / microphone. The power button is very small and hard to use while wearing. The morse code-style inputs required to the center remote button in order to skip/fast forward songs was also very confusing and not at all user friendly. I untimately went with the Jaybird X3 (which has superior sound quality despite the proprietary charging system) to replace my LG 810.

No Complaints - Work Great for the gym.
Posted by: Sam305 from: on
Was using the powerbeats 3 but my only complaint with those was the cable was too short for my huge neck, these are almost 3 feet long and are a perfect length, sound great , battery is amazing..My only complaint is the new cheap rubber case they include is cheap they should go back to the zippered case of the powerbeats 2....

Outstanding, small device big blast!
Posted by: Play4rahul from: on
The reason i bought BeatsX was that i do not like heavy machinary close to the ears like Beats power and not good to hold like apple airpods ... these design was all i wanted. i was suspicious of the quality of music, but beats uphold its name with these!... Amazing clarity, great bass, rocking fun... i immediately started dancing on the work out musics... Also like the accessary, various size ear tips... and the add on 3 month Apple music subscription for free!

Wireless earphones are great!

Been doing research on what earphones to buy Beats had advertised on the new X coming soon so I decided to wait. So far I'm happy with them! Comfortable to wear and you don't have the wire dangling while working out

Cut the cord!

So before this pair of Beats X, I had previously purchased a pair of Studio Wireless headphones. I was looking for some casual, wear everywhere type of product, and those are more of a desk set or airplane set. If you are looking for those types of headphones, I really recommend the Studios. If not, you're in the right place.
I paid $99 for these headphones so here is my review based on the price point: there's not much better *IF* you're already in Apple's ecosystem (have a mac/iPhone/iPad/etc). Amazing connectivity technology means I can switch between apple devices seamlessly.
An 8 hour battery life may not seem very good, but when you consider that you can get a whopping 2 hours of playback with a 5 minute charge, it lessens the blow. Plus, a big selling point for me is that it charges via lightning cable, so now I only have to bring one cable on trips or out and about to charge my phone and my headphones.
The sound quality obviously took a step down from my studios to these in ear headphones. However, it is definitely Beats' most refined sound quality yet. They really took into consideration a broader group of listeners by toning down the bass a little so you get a broader, fuller spectrum of sounds. Don't worry though, I listen to mainly hip hop, rap, and electronic, and there is still plenty of boom. Also, if you pick the right size of ear tip for your ear (and there are tons to choose from), you will feel a sense of moderate noise cancellation which was nice.
Overall, for $99, I feel like this is the best decision you could make if you are in the market for these types of headphones. Now, I understand that the normal price is $150, and that seems much higher, so two pieces of advice:
1) Wait for it to go down again
2) Compare it to other wireless in ear headphones
At normal price I would say if you are a part of Apple's ecosystem, definitely go for it. If not, consider some Jaybirds X3's.
